Best Place to Eat In Town 8/22/2011

We had a party of 65 people in the private dining room at Olympia Pier 21 and everything was PERFECT! The presentation of the food was beautiful and every single item was delicious! We were served greek salads and there was a buffet of sliced lamb, chicken picata and a variety of desserts. I must say though that the party favorite was the stuffed shrimp! To top it off, we were made to feel very special with the perfect service! more

Food Poisoning from Stuffed Shrimp 5/5/2011

This is a very nice place to eat, but unfortunately my meal of stuffed shrimp gave me a bad case of food poisoning. I've been very ill all morning. I find it unacceptable that restaurants that are high-end on menu prices don't have a better way to check out the freshness of their seafood before serving. When I called to report it so they could check the shrimp, they were very personable. They will send me a gift certificate, which I will pass on to a friend or relative of mine, because I don't think I'll be able to go back. It was too pricey, and I was served spoiled seafood. Bad experience. more

Concerned 1/20/2010

I enjoyed lunching on the deck and the service was great. The food was pretty good but I've had better greek. My concern is all the demerits it received from the Health Department. With the location and design this could be a fabulous place, just please get the kitchen in order. Pros: Great outdoor seating, great decor. Cons: Food ok, but problems. more

Welcoming Staff & Awesome Seafood 12/9/2009

I had dinner with a friend last week. When we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted with happy smiling faces! (This is SO different for Galveston) The restaurant was sparkling clean and the lingering aromas from the open kitchen were mouth watering. I ordered the grilled Flounder with rice and Greek side. It was amazing. The fish was flaky and so flavorful! I ordered a wonderful glass of white wine, with the help of the server who was very educated regarding wine... (Total Plus!!) My friend had the Greek lasagna (Pastichio) which tasted amazing. The noodles were cooked properly and the sauce was perfect! We ordered the White Chocolate & Caramel Bread Pudding for dessert... Let me just say that I am ordering a pan of this bread pudding for my family for Christmas... It was so buttery and yummy! The staff was great and the service was right on. The manager checked on us during our meal, which was a nice personal touch. This is my new hot spot for an awesome meal and fabulous view! Pros: Best seafood with Harbor view! Cons: Make sure to get your parking ticket validated before leavin more

Awesome food and great outdoor area! 12/6/2009

I love greek food and this place does an awesome job! I am greek and so it is really hard to find really great greek food that can stand up to old family recipes but this place does just that! Everytime I am in town I go and try something new. I have always been pleased with my meal!!! The view is great too- I actually saw a dolphin in the water. I highly recommend this place!!! Pros: Food/View more

Great food and very entertaining! 11/23/2009

My mother and I just so happened to go out to eat at Olympia Pier 21 on a weekend when they had a Tina Turner impersonator performing for their live entertainment! What a special treat!\r \r We started out by having the Tuna with wasabi seaweed salad as an appetizer which was incredible! Even my mom loved it, and she eats everything well done and not one to try new things too often. Then I had the Chicken Stuffed Santorini which had an amazing feta cheese stuffing with fettuccini and olives, tomatoes, garlic, and green onions. Mmmmmm it was tasty! My mom ordered the grilled pork chops with baby bakes (baby new potatoes) and okra and we also had the best Greek salads with our entrees. They do not over season their dishes which leaves you to enjoy the natural flavors and juices of the meat and you don't have to worry about your sodium intake ( which my mom has to be careful with her high blood pressure). My mom licked her plate, to say the least! Then we topped off the night with one of Olympia's featured cocktails and cappuccinos and had a fabulous chocolate mousse cake for the grand finale. \r \r The night was beautiful, especially overlooking the harbor , which definitely enhanced the experience. The music was amazing as well. Where do they find their talent? What a show! \r \r All in all, we had the best night of the most amazing food and entertainment for the price! Actually, the evening was priceless! I can't wait until we can go to Olympia Pier 21 again! Pros: Food was amazing! Cons: Chilly outside on the patio. more

Stop! Turn around! 10/30/2009

What can I say about Olympia Grill at Pier 21. My God! My buddy and I ordered the Poseidon and the Artemis Greek Family Mezzes that, as per the menu, feed 2-4 each. We did so hoping to have a table full of food that we could eat for hours. For those of you that don’t understand mezze, it’s an experience, not a dish. Mezze is a series of small dishes brought to you as you finish the last, a progression of flavors and textures that, when eaten in perfect succession, create the ultimate dining experience. We first experienced mezze at “Celaborelle Phoenician Grill” in Fort Worth, Texas. What an experience! When we saw that Galveston had its own version, so we had to try it out. What a mistake! First, the mezze did not come in succession, but rather all at once. Second, the entire “feeds 2 – 4” meal was on a 16-inch platter and should be downsized to “feeds 1-2”. We ordered two $35 meals that should have fed up to 8 people and came a way a little less than full. Two people. Not eight. Maybe they meant “feeds 2 four year olds” Third, the food was absolutely abhorrent. Let us delve straight from the menu: Poseidon Mix Tiropita – Tastes like buttered phyllo and needed a full glass of water to swallow. I’ll stick to eating parchment. Fried Calamari – One of the better bites, but who screws up calamari? I mean, I guess it is possible, and I shouldn’t put it past them as they screwed up everything else. Clams Bourguignon – There were clams? Grilled Wild Gulf Shrimp – Great taste, but stone cold. Sure would have been nice if they had been served true mezza style so that I could have had them hot. Baby Lump Blue Crab Cakes – Whoa, wait. The menu says Baby Lump Blue Crab Cakes, but should read Baby Lump Blue Crab Cake. There was only one. If there’s 2-4 people eating it, get ready to share. Not that you’d taste anything. The cake was more bread than crab and had to be salted to taste like the sea. Feta & Olives – Wow. They did something right. Wait… Artemis the Huntress Spanakopita – See Tiropita above. I couldn’t tell the difference. Keftedes – A few burnt-to-a-crisp meatballs, a good keftedes does not make Pork Sautéed MEZÉ – Not only did they not have any taste, but they were dry as a bone. If they had ever seen a marinade prior to seeing a grill, I’ll eat my left hand. It would certainly taste better. Chicken Sautéed MEZÉ – See “Pork Sautéed MEZÉ” above. I had to wash this down to get it to go down. Lamb Chops – At least they were not dry, but we did fight over the last one. Who was going to eat it, because neither of us wanted to. Feta & Olives - Wow. They did something right as second time. Wait… So after an awful dining experience, we ask the waiter, “What gives?” He said that his cooks were new and that he was sorry. So, I asked for a discount and was told flatly, “No, I can’t do that.” So, we paid $40 for a meal that was a quarter the size it was supposed to be, a mezze that was served all at once, and food so bad, I’d rather go to Golden Corral next time. So, if you make it to Olympia on Pier 21, turn a 180 and cross the street to Willy G’s. You’ll pay less and get more…much more. And if you want a true mezze experience, it’s worth the 6-hour drive to Hemphill Street in Fort Worth where you can dine on the most succulent Shish Tawook and Lahm Mishwi in the country. Where flavor has meaning and customers are treated well. Pros: We got to leave. Cons: We walked in. more
