Overrated... 5/12/2006

The baked goods here are fine and will do in a pinch, but the sit down food is just horrible. It may be an authentic HK "tea restaurant", but if it is then I know 4 Chinese people who are from HK and Southern China that thinks the food is inedible. The Wonton Noodle soup I had just reeked of ammonia and the congee just can't compare with homemade. Stick with the pastries... but even those aren't that great. more

A local Asian bakery 4/4/2006

I went to Maria's Bakery & Cafe this past weekend. I don't think I would eat the meals again...The entrées are really inexpensive like around $5-$6 and my husband ordered this egg with beef and it didn't even look like the beef was fully cooked. The egg was pouched..I really didn't like the taste. I had ordered a wont on lomein and it was okay. It just looked like they cooked the noodles and threw in the oyster sauce onto of it...didn't look like they put much effort in the food. However, the pastries are really good! They usually have specials where you buy 5 and get 1 for free. The bubble tea is really good too! I would just go there for the bakery and drinks! more

Tasty Food and Pastries 8/19/2005

Maria's bakery is the best place to go for authentic and inexpensive chinese food and pastries. The bakery has delicious desserts, cakes, and cookies, breads. The bakery is also very well known for their bubble tea drinks which are very delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the place is clean. The atmosphere is pleasant for dining also. I highly recommend Maria's bakery! more

VERY Hong Kong ... "Tea Restaurant" 8/19/2005

My husband and I love to go to Maria's because it reminds us of Hong Kong. Everything on the menu is yummy! And it is all authentic. Their menu is identical to that of a Hong Kong "tea restaurant"... this means rice dishes, noodles, congee, sandwiches, macaroni, and especially the drinks! You see, Hong Kong has a heavy Western influence and the people enjoy a lot of these items, especially for a quick, cheap lunch. Our favorites are: Wonton Noodles Soup Various Baked Rice Dishes Baked Spaghetti Corn Chowder French Toast YOU MUST TRY THE DRINKS! Cold Milk Tea Cold Ovaltine Bubble Tea Most of the drinks can be served hot or cold. Most importantly, Maria's is best known for their buns/breads/pastries .. we usually buy about a weeks worth of buns for breakfast and the Black Forest Chocolate Pastries are to die for! Bottom Line: I highly recommend Maria's if you like to taste different things.. as the prices are fair and my husband and I always order more than we can finish.. and just take the rest home. more

Great Chinese bakery! 6/27/2005

I've ordered 3 whole cakes from them and each was just GORGEOUS AND DELICIOUS. They have several flavors to pick from and so far my favorite is taro. They also have other exotice flavors such as chestnut, and you can also special order them to your likings. They carry various types of breads with fillings in individual servings and they are so yummy. The prices are competitive and I often go there to get my bake goods fix. They also have bubble tea and ice cream. If you've never tried Chinese bakery, you should visit here! The front part of this place is the bakery part, and the other part is the cafe part. The menu is Asian-ized Western food, which I think is kind of interesting. I don'd know any other place that serves food like this. It's interesting enough that I go back to try more items on the menu. more
