Very friendly but the sauces were either over salty or inappropriately sweet. The chicken soup was great but the egg flower was all overcooked canned veggies in oversalted broth.

I love Kowloon!! 2/20/2012

I have been going to Kowloon Cafe since I was little! We used to live in the area and they have great food at great prices. Things have changed a little bit over the years...there are some new faces, and the portion size and prices have changed slightly :) but its still a good deal. And I have yet to find ANY restaurant with sweet and sour chicken as good as theirs. Its the fluffiest, whitest, most amazing bite of chicken you'll ever eat! more

YUM YUM in my TUM TUM 2/23/2011

Always enjoy bringing my family and friends/coworkers to the Kowloon cafe. They may not be fanciest place but they definitely have great food and friendly service at a great price. The fried shrimp and potsticker appetizers are my must have! more

One of the best Chinese food 6/24/2010

I found this place accidentally on my way to work. I was there during their lunch hour. They got this great lunch special that lets you choose an entree and it comes with rice and a couple pieces of wontons. I came from a place where Chinese restaurants are as common as McDonalds, but I gotta say that this place gotta be one of the best. I ordered the cashew nut chicken and other places usually skimp on either the veggies or the chicken, but not here I got plenty and more. Anyway I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a great Chinese food experience or a great experience in general. Pros: Great food, great price, amazing service Cons: Gets crowded sometimees more

Delightfully Tasteful 4/19/2010

I was impressed by the food and service Kowloon has to offer. I have to admit, when my co-worker first brought me there I was very skeptical. I was never a big fan of Chinese/American restaurants, but surprisingly the food was excellent. I figure I would try out the American food and was very surprised that the bacon cheeseburger was better than most American restaurants. I was then intrigued of what this restaurant had to offer. I went back a couple days later to try the Chinese and fell in love. The Kung Pao Chicken with egg rolls were to die for. Kowloon is now our number one choice for lunch. Great job guys!!! Highly recommended: Szchuan beef Cantonese, house special fried rice, hot and sour soup, rib steak, corn beef and cabbage. Pros: Service and Food more

Great Family Style Chinese Restaurant 4/16/2010

I first tried Kowloon Cafe about one year ago. I was attending an event at the E-center right off 3500 south and 20th west. My date and I were quiet hungry before our event and ventured out to find some nearby food. We figured we'd give Kowloon a shot. It was definately a great decision. My date is a very picky eater and doesn't like much restaurant food. We were both pleasantly suprised with the quality of food we were given. The portion sizes were far more then either of us could eat in one sitting, which meant we paid for what we thought would be 1 meal and got 2 out of it the next day. Definately one of the best values i've seen in recent times. I have always gotten the jumbo fried shrimp (they are actually VERY big compared to other places i've been), sesame chicken with an order of spicy beef fried rice. Occasionally i'll get cream cheese wontons if i'm feeling the need for something sweet. All in all, I will consider myself a long term return customer to this restaurant and recommend it to anyone looking for food that is far beyond expectation. Pros: Huge Portion Sizes, Cute waitresses Cons: Far From Work more

Yummmm 12/27/2009

We just had a big family reunion at the Kowloon Cafe and they did an amazing job. We gave them short notice and they easily accommodated our large party of approx 50 in their event/party room. The food and service was beyond our expectations and kowloon cafe will continue to be our all time favorite chinese restaurant? Pros: tasty food and good service Cons: only have one location more

Great Place for Chinese Food in Salt Lake City 6/18/2009

Kowloon Caf? has been our family?s favorite restaurant for as long as you have been open. It was the first place my husband took me to dinner, and I?ve been hooked since. My late mother, Rose, used to call you ?Calhoons? and asked us to either take her with is every time we went, or failing that, bring her home all of the leftovers. Her favorite was the sweet and sour pork. Our family lives in Tooele, and still, when we are having Chinese, we are driving to Kowloon Caf?. Pros: Great Food, Great Price, Great Service more

Great Food 11/11/2008

I love Kowloons, my family has been going there for as long as I can remember, I'm now 22 and still love to get the same meal. Its different than anyother chinese american restaurants you'll ever try, but still great tasting. I recently ordered to go for my in laws and they loved it. I get the family meal #3 with the subgum chicken, egg rolls, shrimp, Egg Foo Yong and ham fried rice. This is the only place i'll eat the egg rolls, and the rice is the best. I've been eating here for at least 13 years and will continue to eat here as long as their food will stay the same.! Pros: Quick Fast service Cons: They got rid of the discount on take out more

Best Family Restaurants 11/4/2008

This is the best family restaurants ever. Their foods are one of the best Chinese foods I have ever tasted, and the price, well it's not so bad compared to other restaurants. The portions are extremely big, my wife and I brought our three kids in and we ordered the number 7 for 4, thinking that well our littlest probably wouldn't eat that much so we would probably have enough for all of us. To my surprise we did have enough, and we had a lot more left. We didn't think that there's any Chinese food restaurant that serve this much food. So maybe next time, I'll just order it for 3. Oh and one the thing that I absolutely enjoyed was their new walnut shrimp, it was 8 jumbo shrimp and their sauce was absolutely wonderful, the server told me that it was only 8.99 and i figured that it's a pretty good deal. Pros: Good Foods, Low Price, and Huge Portions Cons: Couldn't find any parking space. more

Really enjoyed our Experience. Great Service, Great Prices, Great Food! Favorite place in town! 7/12/2008

My Husband and I have recently learned about the kowloon cafe and have quickly become regular customers. The thing that make them our favorite chinese food restaurant is that they are always consistent in both their service and their food. Most other chinese restaurants we have been to in the past have greatly varied in this area and are not as consistent with the Kowloon Cafe. Additionally, to our pleasant surprise, we learned that they opened a new location out in Sandy. We visited their new location in Sandy and are very fond of that location as well. The food taste great and the new restaurant has a upscale, clean, and cozy feel that makes dining in very relaxing and enjoyable. The main kowloon cafe in west valley has a more cozy yet historical feel to the dining experience (been there for over 25 years i believe). Regardless of the location, Kowloon Cafe will always be my family and friends top choice in chinese cuisine. Thanks and keep up the good work! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great People Cons: Trying to decide which of the two locations to dine at! more

Worst customer service ever 6/10/2008

I didn't even get to eat my dinner until after 8:30 pm tonight because of the horrible customer service at this place. Our favorite chinese place had closed and so I was trying out Kowloon as a new Chinese takeout spot. We placed an order over the phone and I went to pick it up and everything was fine until I got home. I pulled out one of the egg foo yung patties and started to cut it up for my son and noticed that there was chunks of meat in it. Which would be ok except that we ordered vegetable egg foo yung because my kids and I are all vegetarians. So my husband took the two orders of egg foo yung back to them, and then they wanted to charge him over $10 because we didn't bring back the patty that was already cut up. Unbelievable! I couldn't believe that they were being that petty over one egg foo yung patty. I spoke to the counter guy on the phone and told him if it was that important, that I would bring it back. They insisted that because we didn't have all six patties that they would charge us. So I scooped up all the egg foo yung patty pieces, put it in a ziploc baggie and grabbed all of the other food that we hadn't eaten yet, and threw all three kids in the car to go back over to Kowloon Cafe. I took them back the ziploc with the cut up patty in it and the other food we had ordered as well. They refunded my money, but that was a small consolation given that I had three hungry kids and two hungry adults and no dinner yet. So we went across the street to Greek Souvlaki, which is great food and has really good customer service, completely unlike the Kowloon Cafe. So for the price of one little egg foo yung patty they could have made a customer for life but instead chose to be petty jerks and got an enemy instead. The manager or owner or whoever he is really needs to work on that whole customer service thing because it's pretty ridiculous to throw that big of a fit over something so small, I really could not believe it. I'd give negative stars if I could!! Pros: Centrally located on a main road Cons: The worst customer service I've seen in a very long time. more

I love this place. It looks like an unassuming little cafe. Some would say ""hole in the wall"". But the food is incredible. more

Great for family night out 2/20/2008

I recently moved to this city from Dallas a couple of months ago and I have been passing by this place on my way to work. One day I decided to do a take-out after work, I ordered a couple of things from their menu to try out their food, and I must say that their foods are incredible. This place is probably one of the best Chinese-American Restaurant in the state. So, later on during the weekend I brought my family here, it was busy, which was a good sign; it took them a few minutes to seat us, which was understandable. Their foods were great and it had huge portions, we ordered the family combination number 5 for 3. It was enough for me, my wife and our two kids, and we still had plenty of leftovers to take home. One suggestion though, during the weekend it would be better to make a reservation ahead of time if you have a large party. Pros: Great prices and large portions more
