My wife and I recently ate at this establishment. They threw us in the corner away from the rest of the other diners and seemed to forget about us the rest of the night. We order...

Great Thai Food 2/22/2010

We have been eating at King and I for several years now. The food has never disappointed. The lunch buffet is great. Reading over the other reviews, I notice what looks like multiple bad reviews written by same person with issues. All you need to do is come in try the place out yourself. You wont be disappointed. Pros: Lunch Buffet Cons: Could be Cheaper more

Good Thai Food 11/24/2008

My first visit to King and I. I was not disappointed. I had the lunch buffet. The food selection was varied and all the entries were delicious. The pepper relish will light you up like a south california wildfire. This isn't necesarily the finest Thai food I've eaten but everything was well prepared and tasty. The restaraunt was clean and well decorated. The service was prompt. I have no complaints and will definitely be back. Pros: Service Cleanliness Lunch Buffet Cons: No draft beer. more

Bland food, when chicken comes with free house flies - You get to pay full price. Bad service. 10/4/2008

Dead on a Friday night, which was ominous but wanted to try it out anyways. Pros: Private seating - Nobody else there! Cons: Food quality did not meet expense, Cops, Bland more

Disappointing food - bland and there is cheaper/better Thai food in the triangle 5/27/2008

I ordered take out for my family of three entrees, including Pad Thai and two stir frys. All three were bland w a watery sauce and overcooked vegetables, nothing of which is standard for Thai cuisine. It was about 6:00 on a weekday, and the restaurant was empty, which didn't seem like a good thing. If you want better Thai food, try Thai Villa. We've always had good service, the quality of the food is leaps and bounds better than King and I, and the prices are cheaper. The only downside is that Thai Villa could use an internal face lift, although some recent improvements were made. Pros: Plenty of seating - nobody was there! Cons: $12 for entrees that were worse than cheap chinese joints. more

Good Food...Horrible Service! 5/25/2008

I have been coming to this restaurant for about 8 years now, and both the service and food have been going steadily down hill. When I first arrived in Cary, I was delighted to have found such a fantastic Thai place. The decor was (and is) lovely, the food was properly spiced, and though the service was never friendly or great, it was good enough to justify the prices. Fast forward: one no longer receives any service. If you think I'm joking, the past year when I have visitied about 10 times I had to look about the restaurant for my own straws, sweetner, and pour my own drinks. If you need extra rice or anything else, it's nearly impossible to wrestle the owner away from her TV and when you do, she acts as if you're pulling her teeth. Also, the food has not been spiced nearly as hot even though both my husband and I repeatly ask for the spicest available. There is simply no excuse for this. On most nights, there are only 4 customers in there. Because of this horrible service, we most likely will not be going back. How disappointing. Pros: the spring rolls (when they're not served half frozen, which has happened), tea Cons: the food isn't spicy enough, and you have to serve yourself more

Sub-par Thai Food 12/17/2007

After reading all the praise on here, my boyfriend and I decided to try The King and I. I was very disappointed with my Pad Kheng--it was lukewarm, not spicy, and somewhat bland (surprising for Thai food to actually be capable of blandness). There was no one in the restaurant, and rather than serve us, our server watched TV. However, my boyfriend DID enjoy his shrimp fried rice, the Thom Yum soup was outstanding, and the decor was nice. I would recommend this place if Sawasdee is closed (if you haven't been there, GO. It's wonderful--right off Capitol Blvd near the Chuckie Cheese). Pros: Ambience, Parking, Soup Cons: Bland Food, Service, Price more

Good food but SLOW service 11/28/2007

My husband and I love this place and this is the only Thai restaurant he will eat at. I like the food but I am a little impatient person, so I have a problem with their service. I think its a family owned business but they really need to think about hiring someone with little more energy. Over all, the food is good just expect a little slow service. more

Excellent Thai Cuisine, Great Service 7/13/2007

I don't know what this restaurant was like a few years ago, as the reviews at that time were pretty poor, but my boyfriend and I tried The King & I two nights ago, and it was really fantastic. We split a wonderful papaya salad, and we ate Pahd Thai and Masaman Curry. They were all absolutely delicious, and I'm pretty familiar with Thai food, as I've been eating it all my life (my mom's Vietnamese, but has somehow always been more obsessed with Thai cuisine.) I'm so glad to have found The King & I, and we'll definitely be back often. Oh yeah, and our waitress gave me a free refill on my Thai tea! Where else can you find THAT? more

Best Thai in the Triangle hands down 2/25/2007

This is the best Thai in the Triangle. We have eaten here for 10 yrs and love the authentic Thai food that rivals the big city restaurants and comes at a price that other places in the triangle don't come close to matching. They have added a buffet during the week that is novel for a Thai restaurant with reasonable quality (better than Chinese buffet in my opinion). If you want the best quality it is always best to order from the menu. Pros: Food, atmosphere, ease of parking Cons: buried in heart of North Cary, hard to find so map it! more

Tasty entrees, good service 12/10/2006

We went expecting a more casual restaurant, but were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful decor and silence.. They were gracious with us and helped our children. When they said our food was delayed (it hadn't seemed long to me), they gave us some tasty spring rolls. Everything on our order was fresh and flavorful-- papaya salad, a roast chicken, and the combination fried rice were all excellent. Also, both waitstaff helping us were attentive and friendly. Pros: quality of Thai offerings, ambience Cons: on the more expensive side more

Ignore the negative comments. They aren't recent. 8/24/2006

Aug 25: Fine relaxing dining (no loud music). Three orders, all were excellent, service was excellent. Decor very pleasant. Out of the way, but very easy to get to. An enjoyable place to dine. If you like Thai food, give it a try. The Pand Preewan (#67) with chicken was very good. Pros: choices, ambiance, service Cons: out of the way location, but easy to find more

Below average experience. 6/7/2006

I was talked in to going to this place twice. Service was below average, and food was not as good as other thai restaurants in the area. Prices seemed to be slightly higher than at other thai restaurants. I would not reccoment this place. Pros: spring roll Cons: service, flavor, price more

Consistently tasty 1/8/2006

I've probably eaten here 15 times in the past 5 years. I've always been satisfied with the quality of the food and the crisp, clean decore. Strange location, but who cares. Pros: good parking, rarely crowded more

Fishy Fish 5/14/2005

Well, I guess the comment about fishy fish is correct. I ordered a salmon soup and the soup was too fishy to drink. The service was bad. Should be enough waiters, but none paying attention to us. I will not go back. Pros: Prompty Seating Cons: Bad service, Fishy seafood, Tasteless more

great, genuine, homely 2/8/2004

I absolutely love Thai food, and the King and I is one of the best, if not the best place to eat. I have gone several times and have ordered the same thing, Cashew Nut Chicken. However they don't always serve this for lunch. But they are so accommodating! If it's not on the menu, simply request it, and most of the time they will prepare it for you! It's a very genuine restaurant, in the mist of all these so called authentic places leaning toward the ""American"" standard. I enjoy the classy set up of tables. They definitly spend time with the presentation, not to mention the preparation of dishes. I spoke to the manager a few times and found that it's family owned, because I always wondered why the only wait staff is her and a young lady (her daughter). It's a homely restaurant & should get more recognition. more

Cary lucky to have such a place 3/26/2003

For all those in Cary who can't find anything ethnically authentic, this is a great place. Great Thai food! In the middle of nowhere. You'd never know this place exists, but it's convenient and easy to get to. And they'll make it hot it you ask for it, they're not afraid of scaring you off! Check it out. A regular for us for lunch. Pros: authentic, Spicy! Cons: a bit pricy more

hot pepper....please?, anything! 3/18/2003

My wife and I recently ate at this establishment. They threw us in the corner away from the rest of the other diners and seemed to forget about us the rest of the night. We ordered our entrees and, us both liking Thai food, asked for ours on the spicy side. We got anything but that. My dish didn't even seem to have a sprinkling pepper, so I sent it back. It came back still lacking anything I called remotely spicy.... Service took forever to get another beer or refill of water, our check, etc...even though the place wasn't that busy. Pros: quickly seated Cons: not true Thai, inattentive waitstaff more

Overpriced cold food 2/13/2003

The food was cold, paid $80 for 4 people to eat, they messed up the order-- i'm vegetarian & i ordered vegtable eggrolls and they served eggrolls with meat in it, to top it off they charged me for the meat egrolls!! The noodles, fried rice, and sticky rice were all cold!!! Pros: nice decorations Cons: cold food, bad service more

Fishy fish 11/18/2002

Freezer burnt. *ugh*. I was yelled at for the owner for asking for something else. I'll never go back. Pros: takeout could be bait Cons: service, food, prices more
