Not a fan of Unorganized Businesses 7/7/2010

So basically my fiance's band went to play there tonight, but his band is underage (range from 18-20 years of age), so I didn't understand why they would schedule a band of underage musicians to play in such a strict place if they wouldn't let anyone else underage see them. I was not allowed inside. So I was pretty pissed about that, wasting my gas to get out there. From what he informed me from his side, their experience was horrible as well. A band before them took too long during their performance so it bled into their time slot. And about 2-3 times before they actually performed, the guy in charge of setting the band up was telling them they weren't going to let them perform, after having phone conversations about setting up everything, knowing the circumstances. Then they were forced to wait outside while the band before them played. They didn't even let them open their water bottles inside when they were done. Performers perspire.. how can you not be allowed to drink water? Then the guy told them they would provide a drum set for them, but when my fiance's band went inside, nothing was set up. So they took more time to have to set that up. When they were ready to do a mic check, the guy went somewhere to make a phone call and wasted more time before starting. And to top it all off, some of the band members tried to tell the guy to turn up the monitors because none of them could hear each other, and he didn't. As a result, their performance wasn't what they were expecting. You have to know there's an issue if your band members cannot hear the drummer and vice versa. Then shortly after the performance, they kicked them out because of the age dealy. So for you 21+ folk, this might be an alright place for you to chill, but for underage performers who somehow are allowed to be scheduled to play at a BAR...expect disrespect and unorganization. They shouldn't had allowed their band to play in the first place if they were going to make such a big deal about it the night of. And if they were so upset about it, they shouldn't have treated them like crap. Cons: Failure of Preparation and Unorganized more

Um, Yes (if your mind is somewhat OPEN) 1/1/2007

I had a lot of fun at this bar-- reminds me of an old punk club. If you go in expecting a 'normal' (translation: boring) pool/darts/mostly domestic beer on tap bar, you will be disappointed. Actually, it has all that plus live bands. It has 'grotto' right in the name, so don't expect some upscale club atmosphere either. Likewise, if you're looking to impress some bimbo or mimbo to hookup for an evening of gonorrhea, this is definitely not the place. They book mostly local bands and have an open mic night, so if you keep that in mind (preferably of the open variety) you can't have a bad time. more

UNIQUE AND FUN 8/8/2002

Joe's grotto has been around for years. It is a great, fun, interesting bar. If you have never been there you need to go meet Joe and Itis? both are loads of fun and it is SO different than your typical live phoenix bands. Good job Itis?Keep it up!! You will pay a cover. About $5.00 but the people and atmosphere are well worth it. Drinks are average price. People are of vast varity. And yes you can dance. But girls leave your attitudes at home just relax and enjoy the laid back atmposhere... Pros: entertaining, live bands, lots of people Cons: lots of people, parking, cover more

Um, No. 6/24/2002

I went 1 night to meet a friend. I had to pay a cover (on a weeknight!) to get into the dump, the band was awful, the service was awful, and the drinks were Scottsdale prices. It was disgusting and wild horses couldn't drag me back in there. I'd say it's a white trash hangout but it was too expensive!! more
