save your money and time 8/5/2008

We went there, expecting a nice dinner and were sorely disappointed. (The name ""great"" was enticing, but we should have read the reviews on the internet before venturing out!!) The facility is in poor condition - old, dirty and in very poor repair. The tables and chairs are old and the floors looked like nobody had cleaned them in weeks.\r \r The food was especially disappointing and it was expensive! The rolls were tasteless, dry and cold. The coleslaw was very bland. The beans tasted like they were out of a can with a lot of chili powder added. The baked potatoes were questionable. They looked like they were probably micro-waved. They were served with tasteless sour cream and margarine, not butter. We ordered steaks and they arrived lukewarm.\r \r And we waited for over 30 minutes for our meal to be served. The wait staff seemed to be very unprofessional and disorganized. (The only bright spot in this dining experience was that the busboys were very friendly and told us, ""have a nice evening!"" when we left. We bid them to do the same!)\r \r We will not go back. There are a lot of other great restaurants in Albuquerque where the food is not as expensive and a lot better tasting, as well as wonderful atmospheres. Pros: Not much. Cons: Everything else. more

Substandard experience 5/30/2008

We have eaten here several times in the last few years. My wife and I rarely get the chance to eat our meal at the same time because steaks are either over cooked or under cooked. There is no atmosphere except the view and only if you are lucky enough to be seated upstairs. The menu is pricey, with limited side choices and appetizers. We had to ask for the bread before our meal, our water was served in a ridiculously small plastic cup, which is not in keeping with the prices, and french fries are not available on the dinner menu. Our last visit to this restaurant was last night when we were told that cocktails were no longer available, only beer and wine. We could not be seated upstairs to enjoy the view or mixed drinks because the a/c was broken. This will be the last time we waste our time and money here. We will only dine in places that want to cater to their customers. Cons: Ambience, Pricing, No alcohol more

Just the Best 11/14/2007

Short and simple...simply the best Steakhouse in Albuquerque*, especially for families. The steaks are tender, and always cooked precisely to order. Their chicken fried steak is enormous, easily a dinner for two to share, if both have the tasty accompanying baked potatoes (big as Idaho), slaw, and beans. Rather hidden away, in the small shopping center, NE corner of Tramway Blvd., and Indian School Road. You will not be disappointed!\r (*With the exception of the outrageously expensive Rancher's Club in the University Hilton.) Pros: Food, ambience, service Cons: Can't think of any more

The Place for Best Steak 9/30/2006

In breif: Kobe that doesn't cot a gajillion dollars! My boyfriend and I split one of their Prime Ribeyes, and one of the Kobe Ribeyes. The Prime has got to be the best I've ever had in ABQ, and the Kobe was ""oh my god"" good-the best meat I ever put in my mouth. They didn't have a salad, but I loved the coleslaw with chunks of pineapple. Server Diane, was really friendly, and got us what we needed before we even asked for them. All in all, it was a most outstanding meal--and the leftovers made a great omelette the next day! Wish they took reservations, but they do take call ahead on the same night. more

My Favorite Everything Restaurant 4/27/2006

Great American is my favorite for a romantic evening while enjoying their spectacular view or a meal with family. Use the call-ahead list to reduce your wait on weekends, but if you decide to go out at the last minute, they'll serve you. Their USDA Prime Ribeye and aged steaks have ruined me for other steakhouses. Kids' meals are substantial sizes for our boys. We love their extensive wine list! We heard about them from their award in Wine Spectator! They have an outstanding selection of half-bottles, for when we feel like enjoying great wine but drinking less, or trying a few. Their wine shop is my favorite place to get a last minute bottle for entertaining. Finally, they are family owned. We enjoy supporting small business rather than corporate chains. If you're bored of the same old steak, you've got to go! They have wonderful chicken and seafood, too! Pros: Quality Food, Great Wine List, Great Service & View Cons: busy during peak time more

Nearly Manhattan Prices in a Cafeteria Atmosphere 11/17/2005

The steak I tried (filet mignon) was good enough, although certainly not monster-size as the menu states, but everything else is lousy. I found the side dishes to be lacking the right flavor (cole slaw far too sweet, beans with too much cumin and sugar that clash with the steak, etc.) and the ambiance was completely missing. It is so very loud that carrying on a conversation is difficult and except for the view upstairs, it is just not nice enough, even if the steak were better, to justify such high prices and a long wait because they don't take reservations unless it's a large group. Pros: 2nd Floor View, Big Tables for Groups Cons: Most of the Food, Expensive, Atmosphere more

The Perfect Wine with a Perfect Steak! 3/14/2005

Great American Land and Cattle has the best 1 lb. Ribeye that I have ever had! They start with USDA Prime steaks. Their seasoning gives the steak a unique flavor you won't get anywhere, and they age their steaks making them very juicy and tender. My mouth waters just thinking about it. The icing on the cake is their FANTASTIC wine shop inside the restaurant. They have the perfect wine for the perfect steak, and the view of the entire city at night just adds to the great meal! more

Steaks & Seafood 3/13/2005

I had the Ribeye, and the marbling and flavor were just increadible... My wife had the Grilled Salmon, and it was huge. But more importantly, it was really good, flakey, and the dill sauce was great! I wish they had a salad, but I have to say the pineapple coleslaw was the best (& I HATE coleslaw!) Prepare to take home a doggy bag. more

mr 5/20/2004

My Wife and I had dinner here last week. I had the large New York Strip and My wife had the small Ribeye. The steaks were done perfectly. The pinapple coleslaw was the best I have ever tasted and the Service was even better. I can't wait to go back and I will tell all my friends this is a can't miss restaurant. Pros: Parking was close by, The service was great, Great Value more

Eat here if you want mystery meat! 12/19/2002

I ordered steak and shrimp, but got steak and fish. When I pointed it out to the waiter, I was served a new dish. When the same thing happened again and I pointed it out, the waiter explained that the shrimp was flaky because it was such high quality. I have had shrimp many times before, and it has never tasted fishy or been flaky. These guys just didn't want to admit their mistake. In addition, my order was ""mysteriously"" delayed in the kitchen for 20 minutes initially while my dinner partners were eating. more

Best damn steak ever! 12/19/2002

This is the only place in town where I don't need to use steak sauce. It's the most juicy, flavorful steak! more
