Sensational food and service! 8/29/2010

We had the pleasure of dining at the new Franco's this past weekend. The service was exceptional - Sam was our server. The food was from another dimension and as good as we remember. The stuffed banana peppers appetizer was unreal, with super hot peppers and a delicious creamy sausage stuffing. We also had mussels, steamed to perfection. Our entrees were excellent - we asked our server for some recommendations as the menu had changed since our last visit. Perfect on every level. The atmosphere is the only thing that seems to have changed....the old restaurant seemed more upscale and the new place is more like the Olive Garden inside. A dress code could remedy this easily. The table of three next to us consisted of baseball caps, jeans, and t-shirts. I don't know any restaurant where hats are appropriate. A family of four across the room was dressed in shorts and flip-flops and the kids looked like they just came in from an afternoon of play. Fortunately, the outstanding meal and service made up for the bad etiquette of our fellow diners. Will be back ASAP! more

Finest Italian both Southern and Northern 7/29/2010

Franco's was sadly missed by all when it closed in June of 2009. I am happy to report that Franco's is now back under new ownership at Freeport Rd at Guys Run in Harmar. Franco is still on board as Executive Chef and Manager and continues to serve the old favorites with many new additions to the menu. The Franco regulars are back and making new friends with those discovering the restaraunt for the first time. Good luck to you guys. Pros: New at different location,Same friendly faces more

Franco's an exceptional dining experience 6/29/2009

Franco's is one of only two restaurants in Pittsburgh where we have never experienced anything less than an exceptional meal. The staff in always pleasant. You are greeted with a smile by Jimmy or Maureen when you arrive. Tables are roomy as apposed to some establishments where tables are small and conjested. The wait staff is knowlegable. The menu is varied but not overly extensive (Franco insisted on freshness). I highly recommed their choices of fresh fish. Particularly the Sea Bass or Soft Shell Crabs. If you are looking for fine dinning you will not be disappointed at Franco's. Pros: consistancy, plesant atmosphere, delightful service Cons: no patio seating more

Not what I expected 5/23/2009

I thought it was an Italian restaurant, I guess it used to be. The dining room looks like something out of Scarface with all the mirrors. The service was ok, the menu is fine dining with outrageous prices, New york strip was 31 dollars and the Filet mignon was 32 dollars, 1 dollar difference? The menu was mostly seafood, and two steak options. I think they should go back to Italian than Fine Dining. Pros: good food Cons: expensive more

Franco's is awesome 12/3/2006

I have been eating here ever since I have been in Pittsburgh. I am from Fox Chapel and this is by far the best restaurant in the area. The food is consistently fantastic, and the service is always great. With any of your meals, when they ask you what side you want, definitely ask for pasta. Their marinara sauce is probably the best I have ever had, and I've eaten at many many restaurants all over the world. The Caesar Salad is great too, very original, and also be sure to ask for garlic toast.. they make it with olive oil and fresh garlic -- its great and not on the menu. Pros: Marinara Sauce, Garlic Toast, Caesar Salad Cons: None! more

Wonderful food, festive atomsphere 11/6/2006

Francos is a fantastic restaurant. Their food is outstanding. I have never had a bad meal there. And they have a nice, extensive wine list. The smoking area is very smokey so if you are not a smoker you want to make sure you request non-smoking. They also have a couple of romantic couple seats where you are somewhat hidden from the rest of the restaurant. You need to ask for these tables well in advance. more

classy 8/8/2002

I'm only 17 years old, but that doesn't mean I don't have a taste for amazing food. Franco's has been a family favorite since before I can remember. Since my first trip there, I've gone there with my family, gone with boyfriends, gone with friends, even alone. Franco's isn't a family restaurant, its not exclusive to married couples, and it's not made to accomdiate the thriving singles scene, it's all of the above. Franco's is the perfect place to go for anyone seeking a good meal, despite who your company is. The service, food, atmosphere, is all astounding. I would recommend it to anyone! Pros: great food, romantic, good service Cons: expensive more
