Best Advice I've Been Given In Ages 9/15/2008

I had been going to the Diego salon on Newbury Street for a while and I was happy with everything except for the commute to get there. It was just really out of my way. So my friend suggested that I go to the one in Harvard Square since it would be more convenient for me and she personally enjoyed the pleasant service there. She recommended me to see her stylist, Faron, and I've never been more happy. I gained so many compliments after getting my haircut and color by her. Now I truly believe that Harvard Square is the new Newbury Street. This advice has really saved me from some bad hair days, so I'm going to pass it on: Go to Diego Salon in Harvard Square. It'll make you feel ""fabulous"". Thanks, Faron! =D Pros: Good staff, Quality work Cons: Parking more

Don't know what customer service means! 7/16/2008

After arriving 20 minutes prior to my appointment, the receptionist almost sent me in the summer heat to wait for the stylist to arrive. I was finally directed to the seating area at the window - far enough not to listen to the gossip, the staff was involved in - and left on my own. While I was waiting no one checked in with me if I may want some water, coffee, etc. No one even came up with a lie that the stylist is stuck in the traffic and will be here shortly. I felt like persona non grata there. She arrived finally, 15 minutes late and invited me to the chair and didn't apologize for being late. The haircut I got is not great, it is acceptable. This was my first and last visit at this place and I do not recommend it to anyone. I am searching for a people-friendly salon again, where you feel welcomed and in the center of attention the moment you walk in. Pros: convenient location Cons: rude receptionist/hostess; lack of professionalism more

Awful Service 3/10/2008

I'm new to Cambridge and after reading the reviews below decided to try this salon out. First, I have to say that my color (from red/brown to black) and my cut were done well but Faron spent maybe 15 cutting my hair and as someone with short hair - its important for a stylist to spend time on my hair and not treat it as a speed contest! Second, similar to the review below me, I went to pay and was informed that something was quoted to me as $120 really ended up being $165 due to the fact that it wasn't my roots but a full dye - which I informed them when I set up the appointment! Further more, the reason that his review is two stars is the receptionist that was there was by far the rudest person I have ever encountered in the service industry in my life (and trust me - I worked in it for a long time - I know rude!)! I've never been so disappointed with the level of service I have received at a salon in my life! Unless you want to go to a salon and only be there for 15 minutes and get treated like awful - don't go here. As a bright note - I want to mention that Faron's assistant was quite great - the only person that I would recommend seeing at Diego. Pros: Good haircut Cons: Service more

Deceptive pricing, poor service! 2/11/2008

I made an appointment with Faron to cut and color my hair. I arrived with highlighted blonde hair. After a great consultation, we agreed to dye my entire head light brown (to match my natural color and ""warm"" it up for winter). Faron also suggested ""a couple of highlights"" around my face so I wouldn't be shocked by the new brown color. After Faron rinsed my hair, I could see that the new color was very gold, not brown. She insisted that the color would look ""darker"" when I left the salon. I trusted her, but in the natural light it was worse and my color was dark orange. When I went to pay, I was informed that my service cost $330 - yes, $330. Before my appointment, I inquired about pricing and I figured I would be charged about $200 ($65 for cut, $65 for single process color, and maybe $80 for the ""couple of highlights"" she suggested - if that). I asked the receptionist why the service cost so much and she said it was because Faron had done ""Color Correction"" and the price was $265. She did not do color correction! I called Faron when I got home and she informed me that it is a salon policy to charge all new clients the Color Correction fee since she had to formulate a new color for me (what a crock, that is her job!). I told her that I was unhappy with the color and unhappy with the price I was charged. She offered to fix it, but did not offer to refund any of my money. I didn't mind paying for the services I received, but she grossely overcharged me. I called on Monday and spoke with Jim (a manager) and he set me up with Shea to re-color my hair. In the end, Shea put a darker color over the orange, which completely elimintated my highlights (which I paid $120 for!) and refunded $45. Two weeks later, the dark color has already worn off and my orange hair is shining through again. I paid over $400 (with tips) for a color that I hate. Worst of all, my regrowth is coming in now and I have a lovely line that I need to have fixed. Horrible experience! Pros: Busy, great energy Cons: Deceptive pricing, poor customer service more

Awesome salon! 11/17/2007

Since I came to Boston I haven't found a place and hair stylist that really satisfies my expectations. I have to say that I'm so happy that I found the place to do my hair from now and on. Pros: Profesionalism more

New Me 10/28/2007

I had been getting my haircut for the past few years from the same hairstylist. I was under the impression that this was the only style that could fit my face. Until a friend of mine, who went to a different salon in Harvard Square called Diego, kept asking me to try something different. After a while, I finally decided to follow her advice and went to try it out. I asked for the same hairdresser she was using. Her name was Faron. To tell you the truth I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but I was going to take my chances. She made me feel so comfortable. She asked me not to look until she finished, and I followed her instructions. I actually closed my eyes and prayed for something different. And finally when she was finished I opened my eyes and I didn't even reognize who I was looking at. I felt I had wasted the past few years going to the wrong person, and now I had found the right person. I looked good, I had more confidence, the color was perfect, and the cut was unbelieveable. I got compliments as I had never had before. I have to tell you: Faron, you got a client for life. My mission to her was to refer all my friends, which I already have done, to her because she is the best. Faron, thank you very much. You are the fabulous one. Pros: Atmosphere, Unique Experience Cons: Parking more

Faron at Diego's 9/16/2007

Faron has been coloring and cutting my hair for about a year, and she always does an amazing job. My hair is not very healthy, and coloring it light blonde doesnt help, howver whenever i leave Diego's my hair is soft, silky, and smooth. Faron knows exactly what she is doing and she is an amazing hiarstylist. She cuts my hair exactly the way I want it and she does a fabulous job coloring my hair. The cut is always perfect and the color looks completely natural. She also always socializes with her clients, and makes sure they are comfortable. I would reccomend Faron to anyone who is looking for an extremely gifted hairstylist. Pros: Friendly atmosphere, Gifted Hairstylists Cons: Parking more

The only one I go to 8/27/2007

Faron at Diego Salon is a very gifted hairstylist. She was very professional and I was very happy with her service. I recommend her to everyone. I refer my friends to her all the time. One of my co-workers had a bob done and she was so very happy. She actually said that Faron had done the best bob in boston. Pros: Good attitude, service Cons: Parking more

A Lasting Impression 8/27/2007

My husband and I have been getting our hair done at Diego Salon for about 6 years now. We both have been very happy with the service, both haircuts and color, the friendliness of the staff, and the courtesy that they have shown us thorughout the years. We will be moving to San Francisco in a couple of weeks and we wanted to make sure that if anyone in Boston needs to get their hair done right; then they should go see Faron at Diego Hair Salon. She is just amazing. She makes us feel like a ""fabulous"" (a personal quote from her) new person everytime we get our hair done. We will much miss her, and her service is very much recommended. We hope to find someone that will make us feel the way she does after a haircut in San Francisco. Our thanks to Faron. Pros: The service, the expertise, and a fun place to be Cons: Parking more

great haircut, friendly people! 6/4/2007

I just moved to the area and found this salon on this website. I called & was able to book an appt on the same day for a haircut. When I got there, my stylist, Stephanie, was running a bit late, but the receptionist was very friendly. I wanted to go from long hair to very short hair, which I'd never had before. I didn't really know what I wanted, but I showed Stephanie a picture of the kind of thing I was going for and she told me exactly what she was going to do and how she'd modify it for my hair type & face shape. It was great! She gave me specific options for what she could do and how it would look, and I ended up getting exactly the cut I wanted even though I didn't really know what I wanted to begin with. There was no pressure to buy extra products, etc. All in all, my best haircut & salon experience ever! more

beyond disappointing 2/15/2006

For the past two years, I've happily had my hair cut and colored and Diego in Harvard Square. My stylist recently left and I tried a new person. I went for a TRIM and stressed I did NOT want any layers cut. The stylist praised my hair as very healthy and proceeded to cut 4 inches off AND put layers in. I asked her what she was doing, she said I'd like it. I did NOT. I left, seething and beyond disappointment. I returned the next day as my coworkers suggested perhaps someone else could fix her mistakes. When asked why she didn't listen, she replied she was an artist, in charge of my hair, and I didn't let her cut enough. I would not recommend ANYONE who liked their hair to go there. Pros: inexpensive Cons: rude, crowded, late more

Great salon 2/13/2006

I have been going to Diego for about 2 years and have been very happy. I get my hair cut and colored by Jadie, who is terrific! I started going there because the salon was involved in raising money for a breast cancer center at Mt. Auburn hospital and I cut 14 inches of hair off for charity. That was the first time I went there and I quickly became a loyal client. Now my husband goes there, as well as about 5 of our friends and co-workers who we referred and who are also very happy. Pros: Excellent service, Friendly, Never kept waiting Cons: Easy to get to more

great salon! 7/1/2003
