Editorial review from Citysearch 7/26/2013

Ironic...\r Cute and unique items, albeit overpriced. This isn't the biggest problem as some items can't be found anywhere in the city. The issue is the staff are very unfriendly and dare I say...hoity toity! And don't even think about bringing kids here, it seems a huge put out for the staff. Curious children aren't welcomed at the CHILDREN'S hour. It is really kind of sad because it has so much potential to be a friendly corner store that could be fun to visit with your kids...if only. more

Awful experience! 5/8/2012

My wife & I were celebrating our 29TH Anniversary on May 5TH 2012. My parents had given us a gift certificate for Pago, the restaurant located just north of Children's Hour. Our reservations were for 5:00 PM, we arrived a few minutes early, So we thought we would check out Children's Hour. While browsing & getting gift ideas for our Grandson, I noticed a woman that worked there was watching me, I have no problem with this, as I am an owner of a small business. I smiled at her, she glared back at me. My wife & I exited the store, while walking to Pago, this same woman burst out of the side door next to the restaurant, looking both my wife & I over. She said nothing, and went back into Children's Hour. Not only will I NEVER go back to that store, she has soured the whole 9TH & 9TH area for us. On a side note, Pago & their staff were great to us! more

Beautiful boutique...but 4/3/2012

I have shopped at this store since my daughters were little. I love their unique clothing and quality. I just wish they were more friendly and willing to help. I only shop there for their merchandise not for their customer service, which could really use some help. more

Beautiful, unique Items, but poor service 10/6/2010

If I were to rate the Children's Hour just on its merchandise, I would give it four stars because of the wonderful items they carry. They have lots of European and other fine clothing brands that other stores don't carry, for children and adults. However, their customer service can be quite terrible. Some of the salespeople are very nice, but the owner is downright rude and a few of the salespeople also give very poor customer service. I once went in to the store looking for a specific book that I really liked and wanted to buy, and the owner spent several minutes telling me how much she strongly disliked the book before she told me she could order it for me. Needless to say, I went elsewhere to buy it. A few weeks ago, the Children's Hour was having a sidewalk sale and had a large sign outside advertising that everything on the sidewalk was 70% off. I asked two different sales ladies if everything was 70% off, or just some items, and they both assured me that everything outside was 70% off, but that they hadn't finished marking all the items down on the tags and the right price would be given us when our items were rung up. My mom and I both bought quite a few outfits, and when we looked at the receipts later, we discovered that we had been overcharged on the majority of what we bought. We took the clothes and the receipts back to the store that day, and the owner grudgingly adjusted our receipts (the difference was $250!), and complained and sighed loudly the entire time she was doing it. She told us that she didn't want to sell some of the items for 70% off and when we told her that the sign outside said ""70% off"" and that her salespeople were telling people that all the items were 70% off, she didn't say she was sorry, but just gave us a dirty look. I don't think I've ever been treated so rudely, especially after spending several hundred dollars. I really wish their service matched their merchandise, but it just doesn't. more

Having a heart is more important than having a dollar 9/27/2010

I went into the Children's Hour today, because my son really wanted a vest there. I wasn't going to go there, because of our problems with them in the past. The owner walked up to me and we worked everything out and she was very understanding of me as I was of her. I love the store and would like to continue shopping there, so we decided to wipe the slate clean and be more tolerant. I feel really good about our confrontation, because we were able to open up to each other so honestly. I have been a loyal customer for 15 years and would not want a few mishaps to ruin anything. What it all comes down to is that Diane carries the best stuff around, and I want and need to keep going there. more

Better than cute clothing 5/5/2010

I have been an off and on shopper at The Childrens Hour for years. But will never again enter the store because of the attitude of the staff. I have never been asked if I need any help or even been greeted when I enter. Although I have been ""acidly"" informed that ""those items are not on sale"" when I never asked in the first place! I have many friends that live in the 9th&9th area and they all have had similar encounters. I'll be taking my business to Four and Twenty Sailors. Too bad 'cause I really like the clothing. Pros: The clothing! Cons: The attitude of the staff! more

Perfect gifts every time. 11/4/2009

I live outsit the valley but drive in for The Cildrens' Hour about once a month. They have any children's book imaginable and a polite and helpful staff. I once went in for an inexpensive gift for my niece and even though I only spent $10 the had it wrapped in a gorgeous box with flowers and ribbons all over. The women's shoes are fantastic as well. more

Great shop but don't stand behind merchandise 5/16/2009

This is a great store with lots on unique clothing, however, I've bought several things there, one blouse that literally fell apart after two wearings, and she would not give a refund. Another pair of earrings that broke after a short time, again, no refund. Pros: Wonderful clothes and shoes Cons: Will not stand behind defective merchandise more

Camper and John Varvatos 11/27/2008

I was pleasantly surprised to find men's clothing at the Children's Hour. I bought a great pair of Camper shoes and a Converse john Varvatos sweater. Pros: Unique Modest Clothing more

Great clothes, unfriendly atmosphere and staff 8/13/2008

Childrens Hour is a great place to find unique childrens and womens clothing. It's charming, well stocked and has all the best brands. It is however, astronomically expensive and the staff is less than helpful. I've been on the ""call me when it comes in"" list several times for different items and never been called. Last week I was in the store for 30 minutes and no one, not a single person greeted me, asked if I needed help, or said goodbye. I don't like to be hounded when I'm shopping, but a simple ""hello"" would be nice. Pros: darling clothes and gifts Cons: unfriendly and unhelpful staff more

They also have SHOES! 11/1/2005

Most people go to the CHidlren's Hour for kids stuff, but I always drop in when the season is changing to get great deals on unique imported women's shoes. If you think you can't afford high quality designer shoes, you're wrong! Check it out! Park in front or around back. Pros: shoes, service, atmosphere more
