Logan Is The Best Massage Therapist I've Ever Had!! 11/8/2010

I love getting massages and I've had every type from reiki to shitasu. I've tried every other therapist at Gahanna and they are all mediocre. I've never had a massage that felt amazing and worked out every stiff and sore spot in my neck and back. Usually therapist say it has to hurt for it to get better and that ruins the massage. I was a bit hesitant to go to a man but he was very polite and courteous and I can't wait to go back. Logan is AMAZING!! and he is soooo HOT!! more

highlights and cut 10/21/2010

I had asked for blonder highlights around my face and my hair was darker than what it was when I went in. my appt. was with a executive director so my expectations were high. I was very dissatisfied! the whole time she was doing my hair she was trying to sell me tons of products that totaled over 100 dollars! Very disappointed!! I will not go back there! more

Mixed Feelings About Manicures 9/21/2010

I've always had shortish natural nails, and decided to try the new Axxium gel manicure as I have a hard time preventing chips. It lasted two weeks, and I LOVED it. When I returned to have it reapplied, though, rather than "soaking off" the gel as the service description says, the nail tech used tools as you would on fake nails to do a "balance" She filed down the color a bit and applied more. I should mention that this shaved at least 15 minutes off the stated service time -- not coincidentally, she'd left me a voicemail earlier in the day asking if I could move up my appt. because she'd had a couple of cancellations and wanted to leave early. Of course, I didn't get charged any less. After four weeks, I decided to go back to a regular manicure which I could remove myself. In addition to again using tools to "hack" off the color, the same tech also used clippers rather than a file to trim my nails, which was kind of harsh and left them a little choppy. When I took the polish off, I saw my nails were dry and dull, and a couple of them had breakage. I might do Axxium again, but would demand that they soak off the color and not treat my natural nails like acrylics. I sure wish I liked the service more, as the hours and location are convenient, and I'd become a regular customer if it were worth the $$. more

$160 for hair highlights like a skunk 10/4/2009

Just moved to Columbus from the east coast and was told this was the premier salon. Even for the east coast these prices are ridiculous. When I was growing up in the 1970's highlights meant "hair striped like a skunk". I thought it looked bad then and and still do. Little did I know that the most expensive salon in Columbus still highlights hair in stripes, even after I asked them to make it look "natural". I cancelled the redo appointment b/c then I'd just have to tip someone else whose competence is equally questionable. The JC Penney salon in smalltown Ohio charged me $60 for a decent highlighting job, after I walked in and picked someone randomly. I'll never darken the door of any Penzone's again. It's a joke. Pros: none Cons: big money for a hack job more

Hair HAXXX!!! 9/1/2009

On two separate occassions I got hacked at this place and got charged $150 to do it. The other services maybe nice but not the hair cutting. Go somewhere else where they know what customer service is and how to listen to what you want. I requested a senior director and she acted like she didn't need to listen to my input. She cut too much of my hair off in what amounted to somewhat of a mullet...I was mortified. I still am... Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Terrible Haircut, Overpriced more

Permanent Eyeliner 5/12/2009

I went to the Charles Penzone Grand Salon last spring for permanent eyeliner. My consultant was intelligent, skillful and a true artist. She spent a great deal of time explaining what was going to happen to me and what results I could expect. She showed me before and after photos and we talked about what I wanted. She delivered. There were no surprises and I got everything that I was hoping for. I highly recommend Charles Penzone. Pros: Skillful Artistry Cons: Hurts a bit more

NEVER again! 2/8/2008

I went to the salon on Cherrybottom and the guy who colored my hair was terrible. He was doing a weave - blonde. I left the salon with purple hair and the charged me for it. He consulted with lots of people, but didn't resolve the problem ( we're talking BRIGHT purple). I went to Max - another CP salon - and had 3 of the worst haircuts ever. more

AVOID CHARLES PENZONE SALONS- Whatta ripoff! 8/29/2007

I had a gift certificate to CP and I was so excited to go to the "best Salon in Columbus". What a joke. I looked forward to visiting a new facialist since my old one moved. My old facialist told me that I have sensitive skin. Not only did I note this on the form I filled out, but I told the facialist when she came in the room. First she started with putting the steam entirely too close to my face- way too hot and all the steam was going directly up my nose to the point it was hard to breathe. She noticed that I had turned my head and commented that she had put it a "little close". She then proceeded to put an exfoliating cream on my face that felt like a million little fire ants biting me! I complained and she explained to me that it was supposed to tingle. I had to tell her TWICE that it was not tingling, it was burning and finally, I just said to her "ok, this isn't normal, take it off". She was completely offended. She then proceeded to tell me she would instead use a facial for sensitive skin (Ok, I told her that I have sensitive skin) and then acted like it was such a big favor and made sure to mention that it cost more but she wasn't going to charge me. Unfortunately, I still had $50 left on my gift certificate, so I kept my manicure appointment despite my bad experience. The girl that did my nails kept getting up to answer another employee's cell phone for her, then would run in the back to tell the girl who called. Employees kept coming to her table to give her lunch orders and she would stop my manicure to write down their order and take their money. The best was she used one of those coarse blocks on my natural nails and you could see the scuff marks through the nail polish. To end my experience, the girl just jumped up and left as soon as she was done and made a comment to her co-worker that she was FINALLY done. I would recommend going to another salon and not trusting this mega-chain. I have never felt so BAD after leaving a salon. Pros: Pretty on the outside Cons: A complete SHAM on the inside more

Hair Hell 3/12/2007

Avoid this place totally. The staff is full of attitude and be very careful about what they charge. I found in 2 visits I had been overcharged 3 times! I got refunds, but still, who needs that? But it gets worse, lots worse. I asked for a recommendation for a stylist and had a consultation. I came back for a cut and it was nothing short of vandalism. I noticed when I came in my hair was the prettiest there before the cut, that should have told me something. When I left all of my long red curls had been cut off and what was left was very uneven, some of my bangs were only an inch long, other pieces were past my eyes. The top was too short to set and went up to a point. It looked like a child with scissors had attacked me. I specifically told the stylist not to cut the top or bangs as they were just right. She didn't listen to me, she just did what she wanted and it didn't work. People I work with were all asking me what happened, one person started laughing when they saw it and couldn't stop. It was ugly and so bad I complained to management and they made a second appointment to try to fix the mess. A senior director and director of guest services met with me and they were very nice. They admitted the cut was not done according to normal standards and apologized profusely. The director tried to cut the hair so it made some sense but they used so much product my hair was like a helmet, worse the set went flat within an hour of leaving. I had to buy a wig on the way home. It was an expensive lesson to learn. I'm still waiting for my hair to grow back but I will NEVER go to a Penzone salon again. To me it is all glitz and glamor in terms of the building but the people inside do a very poor job. The place is full of attitude and they seem to think they are something special. Don't fall for the hype, I learned the hard way. more

dissapointing 11/16/2006

I took my mom here for mothers day to get manicures and I was very dissapointed. we had to wait for our appointments and then when they were ready to see us they took us to 2 seperate rooms. and we were the only people there!!!! I got a pedicure with a bridal party at a different location and the service was poor there as well. the staff all looked very annoyed that we were all there together and acted like we were a burden to them. For being such a high profile salon and spa, I was very dissapointed TWICE how they treated their clientel. more

A class above the rest. 1/13/2006

The spa is a sanctuary, relaxing, enjoyable. the staff is friendly and helpful. my experiance was amazing I have never been to a salon like this. I was most impressed with my package cherise did my french manicure and pedicure the sweetest woman you'll ever meet. if you want your hair done go to aki he is from new york and is an artist, let him make you over the only employee who does make up for charels penzone promotions and works as a hair tech. going here is not a mistake trust me well worh it! Pros: freindly, clean, professional Cons: none more

Great Spa...Awful Hair 5/27/2005

My husband and I each dealt with 2 separate hairstylists: all at the highest, director level. My husband's stylist was not very friendly. Although she was fairly talented with cutting hair, she was way too aggressive with the clippers, which resulted in her leaving multiple scratches on his neck. The second one was only there once a week, so when she came down with the flu, we had to wait 3.5 weeks just to reschedule! Both of the hairstylists who worked on me were terrible, the worst cuts I've ever had. Moreover, their styling ability was very bad. However, one very positive aspect of the Penzone experience is the spa. The technicians are friendly and very capable, while the environment is so clean. The spa lounge area is absolutely decadent! Bottom line: Definitely go for the spa, skip the haircut! Pros: Spa svces are great!, Clean and well-maint., 3 locations Cons: Hairstylists=HORRIBLE, Moderately high price, very busy more
