Amazing family restaurant 9/13/2007

My husband and I have been eating at Cafe Milazzo for about ten years now and love it more today than when it first opened. Neither of us enjoy cooking, so we eat out nearly every night, and Milazzo is always a popular choice. Milazzo's is a comfortable and kid friendly restaurant with excellent home-style Italian food. While I will admit, my satisfaction with the restaurant did dip slightly, they are back up to par. ( It seemed to me during that period they were understaffed; however, all kinks have been worked out). The food is unsurpassable in flavor and richness, plus they are always accommodating if you want to modify your meal. Also, you must try their brick oven pizzas. The pizza at Milazzo is one of their specialties, and every Tuesday night there are $2 slices and $2 beers. The service is always friendly and helpful. Note, this is a small family restaurant; understand that they can be a bit slow on a very busy night. Usually you can be seated right away and the food is delivered at a normal pace (not fast-not slow). I reccomend this restaurant to anyone who is interested in a delectable meal. Pros: the food Cons: can become overcrowded- but rare more

Casual Atmosphere, Friendly Service, Good Food and great small banquet service 5/5/2007

We've been coming to this family-run East Sacramento eatery for three years and have always enjoyed the friendly service and casual, but not obnoxiously loud atmosphere. They often have live soft jazz on the weekends, just the right music to blend with your table conversation. I'd describe the cuisine as hearty, Italian comfort food. This is a great place to go grab a good meal with friends or that special someone on short notice. This place is quite busy on the weekends, but they can usually seat you without a long wait. The restaurant is kid-friendly too. My personal favorite on the menu is the eggplant. Order the greek salad over the rather boring house salad for the same price. They also have a nice assortment of wines by the glass. We recently had 20 people in the banquet room for our son's rehearsal dinner. Everything was as I had requested, down to the color of the linens, table configuration, and great service. We had serveral small children with us, and the owner never missed a beat, serving up kid-style meals and offering them an assortment of toys to keep little handsbusy before and after dinner. Take the time to specify what you want in writing (as I did) for a large gathering and you won't be disappointed. Our guests left the rehearsal dinner happy and satisfied. Best of all, when the bill came, it was exactly what we had agreed on (no hidden costs), even though the owners went all out to make sure everyone was satisfied. more

Inconsistent - quality has gone way down over the last couple of years 4/18/2007

I used to love coming to Cafe Milazzo for pizza, breakfast, and lunch sandwiches but they have unfortunately gone downhill. The descent began when dinner entries became more and more inconsistent. I began to get overcooked and inconsistent food. On one occasion I received a burnt calzone. On another occasion, I went with family on my recommendation and was completely embarrassed by the service and food - some of us ordered Caesar salads (entre type salads - not sides) and we received what looked like a side salad from Denny's or Carrows. The service was not necessarily rude, but indifferent and impersonal. As another user has noted, their group dinners leave much to be desired! The bad experiences include the following..... Served cold food, not keeping up on drinks (have to remind staff to fill pitchers, etc.), mass feedings (platters passed around), unprepared for our group (food not ready). I really hate to sound so negative and it truly is unfortunate that the quality has gone down so drastically. As negative as I sound about this cafe now is about as positive as I felt about it a couple of years ago (food and service). You can still get lucky with a good meal every now and then, but it is very inconsistent. Pros: Can get lucky with a good meal every now and then Cons: Very inconsistent - bad service more

Horrible Place for a private party! 4/14/2006

Our rehearsal dinner was to be set up for a sit down dinner with two waitstaff and one bartender. There were no bartenders and only one waitstaff leading to two of our guests putting on aprons to help serve. Enough seats were not provided. Water was served out of plastic cups and salad was served out of plastic salad bowls. Our sitdown dinner turned into platters of food simply passed around tables. Cake was served on paper plates with plastic spoons. Despite promises, a dvd player was not provided. They had the gaul to charge 20 percent tip. The night was an embarrasment. I felt lied to and swindled. Beware the manager promises all and delivers nothing. I would not have a function at this restaraunt again. A charming place with good food, yet operating the way they are under current management, a good thing will be ruined soon. Cons: Horrible Experience more

Great company and great food 10/20/2005

I have been going to Milazzo for a couple of years now, and I never seem to tire of it. Whether we are going out for a romantic evening, or just a casual pizza dinner, we always leave happy. The brick oven pizza is to die for (and usually what we order), but the chicken parmesana is awesome too. They have great specials and wonderful people working for them. It is all around a wonderul atmospehere and a great dining experience. more

  • The Scene
Groups of friends, first dates, office co-workers and families come together in this favorite local spot. Cafe Milazzo is all charm, from its little candlelit black tables and family pictures adorning the walls to the friendly and attentive waiters. There is generally a wait for tables, and reservations are highly recommended.

    The Food
Some of the best Italian food in Sacramento, with generous portions and great prices. The entrees, mostly old Sicilian family recipes, come with fresh, homemade focaccia and a large house salad. A dish of fresh, crushed garlic is brought to mix with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. The menu offers traditional favorites, like a robust timpano baked in a seasoned pastry crust, as well as creative specials, like the delicious tricolored tortellini in a creamy artichoke sauce.
