A Little Bit of Alsace in Decatur 6/2/2011

If you have ever had the benefit of traveling the region between Germany and France and you now pine for the incredible food of the region, then reserve a relaxed evening to visit Cafe Alsace. It's a regular haunt for Francophiles and Anglophiles alike. Everything here is fresh, the bread is baked daily, the herbs are freshly prepared, and the atmosphere is convivial and enchanting. To go over the finer points, you must note that this is a very real Alsatian restaurant, where dinner is not to be rushed through on the way to a movie. This is a place to bring great acquaintances, friends, or relatives, where the entertainment is the food, the atmosphere, and the conversation. We were fortunate to find this gem of an establishment, as well as meeting Benedicte, one of the founders of the restaurant. Decatur and Atlanta are the better for entrepreneurs such as her. more

One of my favorite! 7/14/2009

This is my favorite place in town to get a cheese tray and a glass of wine with my girlfriends. It's a great place to sit and chat in a great atmosphere. I moved to Dunwoody and still go back regularly. Pros: atmospere, food, drinks, staff Cons: can get pricey more

A gem 4/9/2008

Cafe Alsace is a gem. A place I can count on for a special and authentic experience at Sunday brunch or any dinner. It's rare you find a place this open about the roots of its ambience in Atlanta as well. Try anything. I trust it will be prepared and served as it would be in Paris. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere more

Quaint french cafe hidden in downtown Decatur 3/4/2008

WE arrived for breakfast/brunch and were greeted by a sloppy waitress that told us to hang out on the sidewalk (very cold that day). We received friendly but entirely incompetent and slow service. 15 minutes for coffee; another 15 to take our order; never received refills on coffee or water; took almost 45 minutes after we were finished eating and staring at dirty plates to get her attention to bring the check; another 20 minutes for her to take our payment. AHH!! The terrible service was almost comical. The place needed more waitstaff, as there were 2 servers for about 12 tables. However, the two spent most of their time chatting in the back while every table looked irritated and impatient. The food was really good. I ordered an omelette with very tasty potatoes, my gf had the french toast which was thick and very sweet. The mini-crossaint plate is also very good. Other than extremely disappointing and exasperating service, the location, atmosphere, and food (very reasonably priced) are worth returning for. Pros: Food, atmosphere, location Cons: service, small space more

WHERE IS THE FLAVOR? 2/15/2008

If I could have given zero stars I would have. I had better food in an Alsatian cafeteria. Disappointing and over priced for the quality. Cons: Lacks in comparison to any other French food I have had. more

Plastic In Our Dinner 2/15/2008

My wife and I were very much looking forward to our Valentine's Day dinner at Cafe Alsace. However, we were extreemly dissappointed with our entire experience. The food was average, they served my wife water in a dirty glass, and I nearly swallowed a piece of plastic that was in my entree!! I pulled it out of my mouth and showed it to our waitress who appologized. We expected that at least my dinner to be refunded, but the waitress brought the bill with no discount. We spoke with the owner and explained the situation. I requested a discount and she agreed that was reasonable suggestion. However, she only gave us $5 off our $138 meals. Needless to say We were insulted that she would even bother to remove such a small amount from the total. We will never eat there again and I advise you to avoid that place as well. Cons: Plastic in my Entree more

Lovely and Romantic 1/8/2007

Great local place. Terrific service even with small children. \r My husband and I love the spaetzle, but everything we've ordered has been fantastic. \r Get the walnut dressing on the salad, it's simple and great. \r Make a reservation for a holiday or weekend night, though if you enjoy the local Decatur square you won't mind a wait. Pros: Great Food and Service Cons: Too small for any large parties, so we have to go here for more intimate dining. more

Real Deal! 11/14/2006

First of all it is a French restaurant. Things are not going to be same as it is usually around here. Secondly, It is worth to wait for a table, even if you have a reservation. People wait for hours for bad food. This is good food and it is rare in this city. Good food, and you wait. it is that simple. Great wine list is available there, service is little slow but as I said it is French. At least servers know what the food is; they will give you great information unlike most of the restaurants. I just love this restaurant, it is a great food experience and everything is unpretentious. A real deal. They should dim the lights little bit though. \r If you are regular Joe and you have been to Applebee?s more than once, Cafe Alsace is not good for you. Cons: Food. Wine list more

Cozy Cute restaurant 9/9/2006

This restaurant is definately different than your run of the mill place. You almost forget you are still in the US. It's like being invited to someones house for dinner. The menu changes which makes it a great place to keep coming back to. more

9.0 Rating Right On Target 2/8/2006

My wife and I frequent this restaurant in Decatur. The ambience is warm and pleasing and we have always had friendly service. The Spaetzle a l'alsacienne, a baked noodle, ham and cheese dish is my favorite. The wine list gets an A+. They also have Champagne (yes Champagne, not sparkling wine) if you feel like celebrating. Bringing kids here may be a challenge. The quarters are tight. Pros: Tasty Food, Ambience, Wine List more

Don't go for the 9.0 rating! 3/29/2005

We had lunch (brunch?) on Easter Sunday - 4 adults and 2 children. When we arrived, our table/reservation was not ready and we had to wait a while. The only high chair was in use (and I had made the reservation for it) and the menu had hand-written scribble of the dishes they ran out of. Food was burnt, overcooked, salty and of poor quality. We went there b/c of the 9.0 we saw, but realized we were working on a 100 point scale. Pros: location Cons: small, no high chairs, poor service more

Very Nice Bistro 1/26/2005

This is a really nice, casual, bistro style French restaurant. Its a very good value for lunch! I think the food is very good. Pate was excellent, and could be a meal itself. The onion tart was also great. The croissant sandwiches at lunch are very good. The food and presentation is just a tiny bit rustic, but in a good way. Think french farmhouse. The flavors are very delicate. I think the service is also very pleasant, if a tiny bit slow. The only thing I would not recommend are the soups. They are watery and thin. And the chairs are very charming to look at, but a little tiny for comfort! :) But this a great place to become a regular at. Pros: good food, nice atmosphere, pleasant management Cons: tiny chairs, soups more

Always excellent 3/3/2003

I wish as a vegetarian that they would sometimes have a veggie crepe, but there is a good vegetarian spetzle, the onion tart is excellent, as are the soups and desserts. My husband is addicted to their trout almandine. The main courses stay the same with a few daily specials, but happily they vary the amazing but simple side dishes. We have never had to wait for a table. Dinner here is always relaxing. Pros: The food, Vegatarian options more

Great restaurant! 12/20/2002

Great restaurant serving authentic Alsatian dishes! Excellent service; nicely decorated. Pros: Great Food, Authentic Cons: Parking more
