Had to wait way too long! 2/4/2009

I usually come to Brixx and have always had great meals, yet recently something has happened to their staff or their management? I was surprised by the long wait ...and I mean LONG wait I and my Sister had last week. I will admit I didn't say anything, because I didn't want to be rude, but I doubt I'll be back for awhile. Hopefully this was a one time incident. Otherwise, great food. more

Great Pizza place 6/19/2008

I always crave this pizza, and I'm from Chicago, so I always go here at least 3x when I visit my sister here in Chapel Hill. I highly recommend it. My favorite is the Quattro Fromaggio and the BBQ Pizza. They also have interesting selections such as Gorgonzola Peach pizza. Lots of good choices, huge selection of beer, etc. more

RE: Not all worth the trip 4/19/2008

A friend of mines gave me his pasta and this dude can eat, so it was so strange that he'll give it to me, especially since he likes to eat! When I'd ask him if the dish was good he said yes it was, so I ate it just because it was given to me. What a waste of my time. The pasta was supposed to have some cream sauce on it, but it was as dried up as the basil tomatoes in it. I love all kinds of pastas and once a place makes an impression on me, if the place is far I make it my business to visit the place at least once a year, but not with this restaurant. Pros: parking Cons: Loud not a date scene. more

Great concept, terrible pizza 2/3/2008

I don't mind thin crust pizza and I like all kinds of toppings. I could never eat inside because the place is SO loud (only did takeout). Tiny pizza and expensive, but I figured if it was a gourmet pizza, that's what I could expect. The problem? For a brick oven pizza, the pizza was TERRIBLE. The bottom was barely cooked and the top was almost overcooked. Because it is a thin crust, having the bottom be undercooked made the thing flop right over on itself. Despite the toppings, the taste was bland. I grew up with brick oven pizza and I've never had brick oven pizza as bad as this. Brick oven pizza tends to have a really robust taste because of the cooking style - I have no idea how they accomplished to have such a tasteless pizza! There's another poster who said that the two worst pizza places are Mammoth and Brixx and I couldn't agree more. Maybe many of these ratings are from people who have never tasted a real pizza and think Elios frozen pizza is a delicacy. If you want real brick oven pizza, avoid this place. Pros: parking Cons: very loud inside, tasteless pizza more

great specialty pizzas 10/14/2007

Maybe I'm biased because my wife and I had our first date at the Brixx in Chapel Hill, but I've got to take issue with the angry reviewer below. I find the pizzas excellent. I'm from Chicago and worked in a great pizza place during college - it's not the thick-crust pizza pie I grew up on but the crust is very crisp and tasty and they have a wide choice of toppings and specialty pizzas. They have soy-based cheese & one day I ordered half-and-half regular and soy cheese to compare. I had a hard time telling which was which. My wife orders their salads frequently and she loves them. Sure, you're going to pay a bit more, but if you want cheap pizza there's always Domino's (gack). \r The only problem I have is with the Briar Creek store. There is no sound-absorbing material in the celing and with a big, noisy crowd you can't even hear yourself think, much less have a conversation at the table. If they hung acoustic panels it would be a great restaurant, but otherwise I would only recommend going during off hours. Pros: Great crust and specialty toppings. Cons: Briar Creek store is very noisy when it's crowded. more

worst pizza in the triangle 10/8/2007

the one i'm talking about is the location in brier creek, because they would not allow me to post any comments about it because the place sux so bad....... mannnnnn........ where can i start......... as soon as i walked in it felt like they put a gun to my head b/c i couldn't get out..... it looked good from the outside but terrible once you enter....as soon as i walked in and saw a menu i was like wat the f...ing is this sh...t. who has a menu at a pizza place? the pizzas were the size of the palm of my freaking hand!!!!! the pizza itself was sooo ugly that they had to cover it up with some lettuce. the pizza was freaking cold and you have to wait atleast a half an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!! the pizza is worst than my punctuation and grammer!!!!!! what else can i say.... man there were more employees in there than customers. they weren't doing anything... they just walked around and watched people eat there food and laughed at them... they have no souls.... bastards!!!!!! dont leave a tip b/c the waitresses were unfriendly!!! they dont even give you a full cup of water!!!! bastards!!!!!!! i would give it no stars if possible........ worst experience of my life... they should close down after this review... they charge more than the pizza is worth.. the pizza was sooo thin and burnt!!!! it taste like paper.. my friend got this wild mushroom pizza and he said it was unetible... it made him sick to his stomach.... i blame him for taking us there.... there is this chinese guy that works there, he looked awful and creepy. he was starring at us while we ate our food and made us feel uncomfortable........ i felt creept out.... they had this big oven and such little pizza, it was a waste of an oven... they were rushing us to order and forcing us to get the apetizer that wasn't ever free..... also everything on the pizza is vegi..... wheres the chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let me conclude my analysis of a resturant that deserves no praise or recommendation!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: getting out of their alive!!!!!!! Cons: food was horrible more

Where are the customers? 8/5/2007

I've gone to Brixx about a half a dozen times in 2005 and 2006. No matter what day of the week I went, there was always a wait. For my first time in 2007, since it was a Saturday, I suggested that we get there early. Around 5:45, there were only a few tables open and not many more when we left. What kind of restaurant is only 1/4 filled up on a Saturday night? It was a hot, summer night but the restaurant has AC.\r \r But the food did not dissapoint. I had the spicy shrimp pizza which was delicious and my companion had a chicken one which she liked. We split a Brixx salad which was good but not as good as I remember. Both of us had pizza left over. As pizza goes, the place can be expensive (an individual pizza is $8-9 while you can usually pay only a few dollars more at other pizza places to get one shared by 2-3 people). But I do recommend this place. Pros: Good pizza. Cons: Rather pricey for pizza. more

Must have pizza ... and beer. 6/14/2007

I frequent Brixx on a regular basis. The parking is limited but public transit is very close if you live in Chapel Hill. The service is very good and friendly, even when crowded. The food is very good. The pizza is made fresh and wood-fired for great thin crust crunch. I would recommend you try their special pizza of the day and their soup is always excllent. Salads are okay but nothing special or huge. Dessert is outstanding and portion size for the price is wonderful. \r \r Oh, i didn't mention the other part, the beer. Brixx has a nice MBA program for frequent testers to try all types of beer they offer. I especially like Thursday when you can get imports for $2.50 instead of the regular $3.75. I highly recommend the Arcobrau Dark Lager. Now if you usually pass on dark beer, you'll like the light taste of this lager. A must!\r \r Brixx is great. Give it a try. Expect to pay around $9 for a pizza, $5 for a dessert, and $3.50 for a beer. Pros: Pizza, Beer Specials, Great Specials 24/7, great soup Cons: Limited parking, limited seating, must arrive before 6:30pm more

A Great Place for Takeout Pizza 11/25/2005

The Bronx Bomber and Wild Mushroom pizzas are tasty and thin--you won't gain too many calories eating those babies. Check the Brixx Website for dollars-off coupons, for free salads. The in-store atmosphere is noisy, but the takeout scene is delightful. Enjoy! Pros: Fast takeout, Accurate orders, Good prices Cons: Noisy, Difficult parking more

first time there 5/31/2005

We were in NC visiting and the wife's parents took us there on a thurs nite. We sat outside on the patio. They had draft specials that nite, and you should get there before 6pm or so because the place fills up quickly. Other restaurants nearby didn't have nearly the customers this place did. As far as the pizza when, it was ok, wifey had a veggie pizza, which she liked, parents had a mushroom pizza, which they share and always get, and I had sausage pizza which was fairly good. I still prefer my pizza sloppy NY style, but I would go back there again. Pros: beer selection, outside dining, reasonable price Cons: parking limited, to many passerbys more

in my top 3... 7/31/2004

...pizza place in the area (with Pepper's). Excellent pizza and good beers in a nice place. Out of downtown if you prefer the quiet side of CH. Patio dining. Easy parking. What else do you need ? Pros: good pizzas, good beers, parking more

Not Worth It 6/22/2004

The pizza was not good at all! The wood-fired tomato basil was just a fancier label for ""cheese pizza."" The atomsphere was bland and the service was POOR! Don't bother going. California Pizza Kitchen is 10x's better! more

Yum! 11/25/2003

I've only eaten here once, but it was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. I shared a spinach & artichoke dip pizza (it was the special) with a friend for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. The crust was light and crunchy, and the spinach & artichoke topping was wonderful. I didn't notice any excessive noise like some of the other reviews have mentioned. Our service was quick and friendly. I had a soda and halved a pizza for lunch, and I left completely satisfied. The best part - it was only $5! Quick, easy, cheap, and oh so good. Pros: Food, Neighborhood, Service more

Good stuff 1/10/2003

I've had several items from the Brixx menu. The artichoke pizza is fantastic, as is the Rustica pizza. The spinach & artichoke appetizer is also very good. The draft beer selection is unrivaled. Join the MBA (Master's of Beer Appreciation) program to earn free food and other stuff. Unlike other places, you get free stuff after every six beers. Six beers = free pizza, 12 beers = t-shirt, 18 beers = 2 pint glasses, and 24 beers = pizza party and engraved mug. The restaurant can get noisy. Personally, I like a little noise so it doesn't bother me. Most items are reasonably priced, too. Give it a try. Pros: Beer selection, Variety of menu, Good atmosphere more

good mix 11/30/2002

excellent mix of nicely priced food and beer with a more art-deco attitude. friendly staff. more

Love it!!! 10/31/2002

We moved in Triangle area from Charlotte and we missed Brixx pizza a lot. Everytime we passed by Charlotte, we would stop there. We were very excited that it opened up in this area. We love their salads and pizzas are great!!!! more

Beer + Pizza=Good 10/3/2002

Good lunch spot or relaxed dinner after a long day at work. Great draft selection. Reasonably priced. Recommend. A great addition to Chapel Hill. Meadowmont is nice---will be great in the fall! more
