DELICIOUS CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES!! 7/7/2008

This was my first meal in Newport- and even though its right on the water and is supposed to have delicious seafood, I for some reason ordered a burger- and it was DELICIOUS! The service was also great. Pros: yumyumyum more

Overrated 5/20/2008

The Black Pearl is a remnant from days gone by when one didn't have a choice of great seafood resturants and were stuck with arrogant and unfriendly staff members and old antiquated ambiance. It took what seemed forever to even be acknowledged at the seating desk. Food was plain, nothing inventive nor mouth watering. Four of us were on vacation on the East Coast and have captured many places we plan on returning to, but this place is definitely not on our list. Save your money; better places all around you. Pros: Walking distance from hotel Cons: Everything; food is plain, service is arrogant, ambiance is old and dated. more

great chowder 12/23/2007

love the chowder! A newport tradition! more

Best seafood 12/8/2006

This place has the best seafood and clam chowder anywhere in New England. Make wait list reservations because the wait time is at least one hour. But the wait is worth every minute because you will never have seafood better than this. Pros: food Cons: wait time more

Best Chowder In Rhode Island 10/2/2006

Any visit to Newport must include a visit to The Black Pearl. Diners can choose from the tavern, the main dining room or the fun outside cafe. Any meal is not complete without an order of chowder. Rich with clams and potatoes, a creamy broth topped with dill and lemon, this is the quintessential New England styled chowder. The Pearl also features stellar burgers, fish and chips and grilled fish. Pros: Clam chowder; brunch; key lime pie. more

Overpriced, Low Quality Food Made With No Pride 7/7/2006

The Pearl raves about it's chef and his win in a major culinary competition by the front door menu board, well whover judged that competition never ate there! The food was boring, plain and made with zero pride. Whover that chef is (i refuse to even learn his name) should be embarrassed! Pros: Outdoor Bar Cons: The Food, The Service, The Whole Place more

The Black Pearl 3/20/2006

""The Pearl"" is a great place to eat! The food is great, the patio is a nice place have a few drinks and enjoy the wonderful outdoors in the summer a. The tavern and patio are casual attire and DO NOT take reservations, there can be quite long waits in the summer so stop by about an hour or so before you want to dine. and the waitress' are some of the most beautiful in town Cons: no parking more

Great Service 8/9/2005

Good times on the patio 7/12/2005

I've never gone to the indoor dining area, but have always enjoyed grabbing a casual meal at Black Pearl's outdoor patio, which sits on the dock right outside of the restaurant. The burgers are delicious, and they make the best mudslide I've ever had. It's expensive, but you're paying for the atmosphere and the location. Service is generally solid. Worth going to at least once. Pros: Dockside dining, Mudslides, Tasty food Cons: Expensive, Crowded, Limited menu more

A Real Pearl 5/19/2005

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant in 1995 and had the most succulent Rhode Island lobster. Great food, great place! more

A Pearl on the Waterfront 5/19/2002

For decades The Black Pearl has been the most popular dining spot in Rhode Island. The dining room is all burnished dark wood with flattering lighting and nautical art on the walls. The food is essentially moodern American. You can't go wrong with local oysters and clam. Seafish changes according to the catch. I highly recommend this place -- but reserve well in advance. more
