Great bar but disappointing music 12/27/2010

My first time experiences at the Saloon were for lunch and a couple of nights during the week with some friends. Definitely a great bar with great food and friendly service. However, I was really surprised at how bad the music was on Friday, Dec. 10. They had some out-of-date rock 'n roll band with a Vaughan/Hendrix wannabe old-timer lead guitarist who liked to hear himself play but couldn't nail the licks (ouch!). I found out that they play at the bar now and again and I would recommend avoiding the place if (Blackwater Jack?) is playing. Other than that, I highly recommend the Barbary Coast for a great time. Just check out the band first. more

Best Bar Around very friendly (both the staff and the patrons) 4/26/2007

I love the look of the Barbary coast, it's fantastic. They have the friendliest staff, everyone did their best to welcome my friends and I and make us feel right at home. The staff was very attentive to our needs without hovering over us like wolves. Although the bar was very busy due to the live band and it being a Friday night, we never had to wait for our food or our drinks. Everyone of the staff members that I talked to (i.e. bouncers, cocktail, and bartender) were all very nice and more than eager to accommodate my friends and I. The bar itself consists of mainly bikers, which made me a little uneasy at first, but they were all so polite and friendly. They made all of us feel very welcomed and, as a few of the bikers put it, "as part of the family". The menu at the bar was nice, it had so many choices, not just the usual burger and fries, and the sandwich that I ordered (The Co** of the Walk) was so delicious and way to big for me to finish by myself. a few of my friends also ate and said theirs was delicious also. Also the prices were reasonable. The only complaint I had was that their cigarette machine only carried Camels and I smoke Marlboro. I will definitely return again. Pros: The staff and crowd were all very friendly Cons: There were only camels in the cigarette machine more

Editorial
  • The Scene
This nondescript biker bar on State Street is a true-blue, black-blood watering hole for the national biker circuit. The walls are covered with all things Harley and a 200-sqare-foot Jack Daniels banner hangs from the ceiling.

    The Draw
The big, wood-planked interior fills up on weekend nights, with live rock and roll, cheap draft beer and decor from hell. Barbary Coast wears all its scars and leather without a lick of pretension. During the day, it's a laid-back meeting place for a handful of salty dogs, with a full food menu that includes burgers, steaks and assorted Asian dishes.
