Santa Monica's hidden gem 9/15/2011

You can thank me later for letting you in on one of SanMo's best kep secrets. For this establishment is one of my favorite bars in the entire LA area. And you may have heard some complaints about the lack of a hard liquor license, but don more

Great DJ and Courteous Doorman 6/29/2008

I went here with three of my friends on a Saturday night. First off, there was no line when we got there around 10:30 and the Doorman was by far one of the the most courteous and polite doorman I've ever met in LA. He smiled, complimented the ladies, and did not carry any pretentious attitude. He also dressed well in a nice suit and not baggy jeans or a hoodie. Inside, the Saturday night DJ was amazing. Again, some of the best music I've heard played at a bar. A nice balance between top 40 and some Old School with a slight emphasis on Tupac. \r \r While the interior is kind of small, its not at all super crowded. A pretty good looking crowd composed mostly by people in their Mid to High 20s and early 30s. My friends and I were able to move around quite easily and had no trouble finding seats at the bar. The wine selection is fairly impressive. I'm glad they serve Cristalino, which is one of my favorite sparkling wines (Even though at $8 a glass I could have bought myself an entire bottle from somewhere else). They also have Perroni on tap which is my beer of choice when going out. One of my friends ordered the Pinot-Tini which was a mix of Pinot Gris, Pineapple juice and simple syrup. She's not much of a wine drinker at all but really enjoyed the drink while I thought it was too sweet for my taste. \r \r Overall, this place is a real jewel on the westside. Don't be misled by the neighborhood and its location down the street from a 99 Cent store. Parking was also really easy, and you can also call for a FREE table reservations. Pros: Nice Doorman, Great DJ, Easy Parking, Free Table Reservations Cons: Small interior more

nice atmosphere 6/12/2008

was there tuesday with my coworkers and found this beautiful nook on the side of pico. who knew? this place was so gorgeous inside and the dj was really great and its usually rare to find a bar with a dj on tuesday nites in santa monica. the wine selection was nice and the bartender was friendly unlike some hollywood types that cant even smile. as an after work spot, its a great wine tasting spot and place to unwind. i heard the weekend s get busy but as a nice place to be on the weekdays this is it and we'll be back for another round! Pros: beautiful place, sophisticated, good cheese plate with the wine, dj, easy to talk to people because its not crowded Cons: parking is a little hard to find, no dance floor more

It clearly isn't air conditioned... 6/7/2008

because all the wine we tried, tasted like it had been stored in an oven. Let me explain. \r \r My girlfriend and I order a glass of Primus Cab and Edna Valley Syrah - mine came from a bottle already opened and hers came half from an open bottle and half from a new. Mine tasted old and tasteless,. Hers? Like the Night Train Express. \r \r Okay. It's a bar. Maybe the bottle of Syrah had been sitting out, half drunk for a week or two. Fine. We replace it with a glass of Bodegas Borsao, which, in our opinion is a hell of a bottle for the price. We've probably downed at least 30 bottles of this over time, which we pick up from the 154 market in Santa Ynez. Great wine selection there, BTW. \r \r The glass came from a new bottle. Sadly, it tasted sour as well. The only thing we could think of is that they store their wine out in some uninsulated, un-AIR CONDITIONED warehouse before bringing it into the bar. Unbelievably, the manager was going to charge us for both glasses until I through a fit. ""I just opened that bottle, you expect me to just throw it out?"" Ah, yeah! And don't charge me for the glass of nasty you poured either.\r \r Hey, it'd be a great place if the wine was actually stored correctly. Maybe go for the hard licks instead? In the mean time, go to Bottlerock in Culver City. Excellent place and wine. Pros: Great location, not crowded Cons: Bad wine and service more

bottomless sangria! 4/25/2008

bottomless sangria night was great (and tasty!!) It gets an average because there was NO ONE at the bar. Went with friends, and we had a blast talking. The astmosphere however is really amazing. Open, modern feeling.\r \r \r I just wish it was more crowded on weeknights. more

Nothing to get all hot & bothered about 11/26/2007

This place is pretty hyped so I was curious to check it out when I got invited to a little shindig on a Friday nite. Aside from the not-so appealing location on Pico, I gave it a shot. The bar area to the right is dimly lit w/red lighting and the ottomans/booths were peopled with couples and after-workers having some wine. The drink menu is pretty extensive, so if you're into that sort of thing you'll be happy. To the left is a raised platform with seats and (I think) a DJ who was playing the loud loungey sounds. Even though I was there with a group, I wasn't really feelin it. But that could be because I'm not into wine. Pros: lots of wine for drinkers Cons: it's on yucky pico more

yeah 9/6/2007

not bad - just a regular place to get a drink and some cheese...There's a wine tasting night too for the KCRW, Trader Joes, literati crowd.... Pros: dig a pony Cons: none. more

Best Wine Tasting on the West Side 1/15/2007

I am so excited about this sassy lounge!!! I went to a wine tasting there last tuesday night and it was so much fun!!! Tasted great wines and learned a lot too. Bringing my girls...Tuesday here we come!! Pros: ambience, amazing service, great djs more

Wonderful Spot to Chill 12/26/2006

This place is not pretentious and has a wonderful cozy kitsch about it. The bartender was very vivacious and helpful and recommended a lovely malbec. My group sat at the comfy seating area in the back and we enjoyed the dj immensely (eclectic mix of music). We will definitely return! Pros: Great casual vibe; Good wine selection; Great music Cons: Tiny space more

Great music 12/19/2006

I've been coming to AC for awhile. The music is good and the bar is always crowded on the weekends, especially Friday nights. They specialize in wine but all of the mixed drinks are good and the bartenders are always cool. The atmosphere is sophisticated but pretty chill. I keep bringing new friends to AC and they always want to go back. more

Great ambiance 12/19/2006

I have only been to Air Conditioned once but had a great time. The atmosphere is great - it's really dark and the wood makes for a cool setting. They have tons of wines- every one I tried was good- but I loved the Cherritini. I went on a wednesday, which was kind of mello, but I heard Friday is really fun. more

chill lounge 11/9/2006

this is a great place that's right in my neighborhood. it's a hidden spot on a kind of sketchy strip of pico, but once you're inside it's all low lights and clubby wood and leather. lots of wines to choose from and beers on tap. can get crowded on weekend nights, but after work it is really chill. more

AC lounge is the spot to be at on Friday Nights!! 10/1/2006

The unassuming Air Conditioned Lounge is tucked away on Pico Blvd in Santa Monica. But don't let the fact stop you from checking it out. It has a cozy plush 60's mod-lounge vibe with cool friendly bartenders. Friday nights are not to be missed!!! DJ Eric Jerome is one of the most underrated DJ's in LA. Those in the know are quick to make comparison's to DJ Spider and DJ AM. His excellent skills at melding genres from Hip Hop to Rock to House - will take him far, don't miss a chance to see one of his sets before he moves on to bigger venues. You also can also catch Eric Jerome's set on Saturday nights at the new Air Conditioned Lounge Supper Club in Venice. Pros: Awesome music, great DJ's Cons: low capacity more

Great weekend spot! 8/3/2006

I've been going to AC for almost a year. I love it. Christine always makes me feel welcome and she's so sweet. The dj's are great. Friday nights are by far the best, but Saturday's are a close second. The only thing that I hate is that Cole is gone. What happened? Now they have a new manager who hates being there. He's not friendly and he has the worst attitude around. If he hates it so much there, then why doesn't he just quit and let Cole run the place again. Don't let this discourage you from going, just try to go on the weekends. The rest of the staff is fun. Pros: Music, Christine and Cole, wine list Cons: New manager more

Best Ratio in town boys!! 7/18/2006

Ok , so my friend had told me about this bar that he went to on a date on pico, and he told me he had a great night his date wasnt so great but he said the bar was awesome. Of course i asked him why, he then told me that the place was hidden away but i should definetly check it out. I went last saturday. Music was great, found myself dancing and i dont even know how too! i learnt a bunch about wine, which before i knew nothing , and best of all i got a gorgeous gals phone number and i dont know how i did that either!! So basically this is my new saturday night hang out! Its a cool westside bar, finally!! And if thats not enough they have a smoking hot bartender! And there is NO cover! Pros: Great vibe, cool people, on the westside Cons: be creative with parking more

somewhere to enjoy yourself! 7/18/2006

So i work on the east side of santa monica and i work pretty late and quite often i feel like a beer after work, (who doesnt) i had been to the joker a couple of times which is your classic dive bar but really didnt feel comfortable in there. Half a block down from there was a bar called Air Conditioned, i walked in on a thursday night about a month ago and i have been going there every week since. Very comfortable surroundings, excellent staff all of which have a good knowledge of their beer and wine which is very refreshing. And i dont even have to deal with cheesy chart music. Great work guys keep it up. Pros: relaxing, great service, good beer selection Cons: closed on mondays more

Great hidden bar on the westside. 7/12/2006

I love Air Conditioned. I've been going there for a few months and I am still not tired of it. The music on Friday is great, the bartenders (Christine and Scott) are attractive and friendly. Some of the wine is alittle pricey, but well worth it. I thought parking was an issue, but there is a huge parking lot in back. (you can leave your car there overnight) Great crowd. Pros: Crowd, bartenders, parking more

A hidden gem 7/9/2006

Got to say, I'm pretty over the ""club"" scene and this locale definitely fills the hole on the westside for a mellow lounge with good wine and music. It's older than the Q's crowd, and not cheesy and sweaty like Liquid Kitty or other clubs with dance floors. A great DJ played an ecclectic mixed of non-overbearing tunes, while the bartender mixed up tasty soju cocktails...the glasses of wine tend to be pretty $$...but I guess their top notch...there is no valet, which can get annoying, but that seems to be what is keeping it from becoming too packed....great great time!!\r Pros: great music, nice atmosphere, good crowd Cons: wine is pricey, no valet more

The best secret spot yet!!!!!!!!! 6/2/2006

Still not hyped by a pretentious scene. Great wine list, great cheese selection, and great staff. From the minute you are greated by the large english doorman to ordering your wine from an attractive bartender, you'll feel totally satisfied. I like Thursday nights and Saturday nights. The dj plays a great selection of music. Check this out before it gets overwhelming busy. Pros: Good parking, Great wine, Great crowd more

My new favorite spot!!!!! 4/28/2006

I love this place. I've been going for a few months now and it gets better and better each time I go. Not to mention, busier and busier. I love the wine list, atmosphere, and Christine and Scott. (my two favorite bartenders!) Pros: xcellent service, xcellent wine list, xcellent atmosphere more
