Heart day.... 2/24/2004

My husband and I went to Au Bon Appetit for Valentines day this year, and the service was excellent. We were a little dissapointed with the limited holiday menu. My husband loves a good filet mignon, and there was no red meat on the menu (except for the duck). The duck was well prepared and had a delicious pan sauce on it. My husbands roasted chicken was very ordinary, and we felt that at $18 a plate it should have been much more than ordinary. The melon and prociutto salad and fried oysters were very good. The star of the night was the chocolate molten cake. I have NEVER eaten such a delicious chocolate confection in my life!! more

Bon Appetit 9/22/2003

I stumbled into Au Bon Appeit when I decided to skip the long wait at a neighboring restaurant (Market Street.) I was delighted by the atmosphere and the attentive staff, and absolutely mesmerized by the meal. This restaurant is a rare beauty lost among the chain restaurants and unimaginative menus of Salt Lake. more

on the positive side 2/25/2003

It is a nice place eat. The soups and appetizers were great; however, the main dishes were not that impressive. Especially the rice that comes with entrees. The service was good. Also, although the tables are separated which is a good thing, the decor of the room does not help for the overall atmosphere. Overall, I am not sure this place is better than L'avenue. more

Good enough for anywhere 1/21/2003

This is one of a few places (although there are more now than ever) in Utah that could make it in a big city like Manhattan or San Francisco. It is high in quality throughout and comfortable and unpretentious. Parking on Market Street is the only problem. Pros: comfortable, not snotty, nice people Cons: parking more

Delicious sauces, perfect portions 1/4/2003

Although the service has ranged from mediocre to excellent, the food has always been wonderful each time. Get a table by the window for the best seating. The food here is not to be missed. It isn't over priced either. Pros: consistent, downtown, romantic Cons: parking$ more

Good downtown french 12/27/2002

Good french food - as good as any in SLC but without the inflated price. Traditional french dishes, but some simple stuff too that will satisfy picky eaters. Only complaint - we got there just after opening. There were 3 three parties in the entire place and they sat us right next to each other. Awsome deserts.....GREAT creme brule. Pros: Service, Deserts, Atmosphere more

On the streets of Paris 12/26/2002

The food was excellent, though the music was a bit raucous. It has the atmosphere of a typical small restaurant along the streets of Paris Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: music more

excellent! 11/27/2002

The food and the service are just EXCELLENT!!!! I was in a business trip and just went to the same restaurant every day. Excellent and no expensive. Pros: food, prices, service Cons: I live in Ohio!! more

Great Authentic Desserts 9/21/2002

Great food. The desserts were to die for. I had a small baked Alaska that had honey ice-cream, and raspberry something on the bottom, with baked meringue. I have been to France a few times and the desserts live up to the French standard of cooking. It was incredible. The waiter was very helpful and the service was perfect. Pros: Authentic Cons: Pricey I thought more

A French Bistro 8/9/2002

French bistro food at a reasonable price, in a nice decor & atmosphere. Our favorites: seafood risoto, cheese fondue, pierrade, the wine list (reasonable)!! and killer desserts! The owner being on premise and checking on tables adds a nice touch. Pros: food, value, romantic Cons: parking more

A must for anyone visiting Salt Lake.... 7/9/2002

I travel around the world for both business and pleasure and Au Bon Appetit was an increadible find. The personal service as well as the food was outstanding. The owner himself Kristian was at the tables greeting customers assisting in wine and menu selections. The decor was white table cloths in an intimate atmosphere surrounded by colorful paintings that emulated a Parisian Bistro, casual yet elegent. The Menu had something for everyone all at a reasonable price. The wine selection was well chosen to complement the menu. Pros: Hospitality, Ambience, Moderate price Cons: Parking more

Deceptive 6/18/2002

We have been really disappointed by the quantity of the food and by the service. Maybe it was a bad day but for the price we was waiting for better. Maybe are we so difficult because we are French! more

What a French bistro should be 5/14/2002

It's an intimate restaurant, but the tables are well-spaced making for a comfortable dining experience. Great place for a romantic evening meal and the food is delicious: simple and pleasing to the eye and palate. If you work downtown, stop in in the morning for a pastry from the patisserie--but be warned, the ham and cheese croissants are fairly addictive. Service can be spotty, but overall it's friendly, gracious and prompt. Pros: Patisserie, Good food Cons: Spotty service more
