I love 61C! The coffee and food/drink are nothing special, but they're perfectly decent (not as good as Coffee Tree Roasters nearby, but better than most other local joints, cert...

61C Cafe 9/21/2005

In my opinion 61 is a very nice café. I actually think that it is one of the better café’s in the city. This is because of the atmosphere and the design. The outdoor patio allows for a European flavor to your dining experience. It helps greatly that the patio is designed so that it is nestled into a corner with plants around, this way the people walking past on the sidewalk do not intrude on the experience. Their desserts are also excellent. more

Wonderful cafe 9/2/2005

Almost like you are in Europe...except your not, but the coffee is good. They have great desserts as well. In the summer time there is an outside patio that is a blessing and a great way to enjoy your coffee. I think that it is also a great place to relax and read a book. I also enjoy that there is greenery surrounding the patio so you are not staring at the street or sidewalk. Right in the heart of Squirrel Hill...it is a gem. more

Overrated 8/22/2005

This place has its perks, like a prime location and a cute patio, but on the whole it's grossly overrated: the coffee and chai tea are the worst I've tasted in Pittsburgh. Also, the older members of the staff have a reputation for being rude, which I guess makes sense since they've spent their twenties making six bucks an hour. more

almost perfect... 8/21/2005

I find the 61c in squirrel hill to be something of a tragedy. The indoor space is great, the outdoor patio is right on, the crowd is always good, the staff are cool-yet-friendly, and the pastries are probably the best of almost any other cafe in Pittsburgh. The tragedy? Their espresso drinks suck. Every now and then when buying one of their righteously decent croissants, I decide to give their cappuccino another try. I've always been disappointed. Stick to brewed coffee while you soak up the place and their pastries. more

For a wonderful cup of coffee... 8/16/2005

This little cafe in the heart of Squirrel Hill not only has great coffee, but great ambience, too. Warmly lit with youthful, energetic baristas, this coffee shop is the perfect place for a reading the paper on a Sunday morning or an after-dinner espresso. The cafe is positioned directly beside the stop for the 61 C bus, so you can wait inside on cold winter days until your bus comes. A bonus is the beautiful little outdoor patio with Christmas lights and a sunflowers. more
