I recently traveled to Florida on American Airlines, but our return flight was canceled and American rebooked us on Alaska Airlines. We flew non-stop from Miami to Seattle and it was a wonderful flight with a great crew. I was traveling with my family, and American wasn't able to assign seats for us at the time we were rebooked, so we arrived at the airport early where the Alaska ticket agent pulled some strings and managed to seat all 5 of us in the same row. (My children are young, so we couldn't sit staggered around the airplane.) During the flight, the flight attendants were friendly and responsive, and - shock of all shocks - Alaska Airlines actually serves food. For FREE! And it's quite good for airline food. Ours was a morning flight, so we got a strawberry yogurt and a breakfast sandwich - egg, cheese and ham on an English muffin. Later in the flight the attendants came through the cabin with warmed cookies, and there were three beverage services throughout the flight. We were also able to rent a "DigiPlayer" for $10.00 that was preloaded with movies, TV Shows, cartoons and music. These kept my kids busy for the entire flight, and they come with a splitter so more than one child can watch and listen. Very nice! I'd definitely fly Alaska again, and I'd even pay a little more for a ticket on such a pleasant airline with unexpected little touches.
