Dr. Widay communicated to me that she was familiar with toy puppies. I believed her. She said our 8 mo.old, almost 2lb yorkie needed to be spayed for her sake later on. I told her I was skeptical of surgery, rabies vaccine, any "procedure" because she was so tiny. Dr. Widay insisted that it was ok. She also said that pulling her baby teeth because her permanent teeth were coming in,was necessary. I believed her. She said she would do both procedures at one time. After, our puppy was over medicated - with narcotics and her sugar went down to 34. After speaking with several vets they all related the same information. Not good to spay a toy puppy under one year their immune system is late kicking in. Never do two procedures at the same time on a small dog - really not even big dogs; the anesthesia keeps them out too long. Always give 10 days of antibiotics prior to the surgery and 10 days after the surgery. Always be sure of the amount of anything given to a tiny 1lb 14oz puppy. Our very special and totally healthy puppy died two weeks after surgery. She really never bounced back. I called Dr. Widay who never said I am sorry. And when I said "Please don't ever tell any customer that you know little dogs because you don't". She simply said: "I am going to hang up now - goodbye". There are not so many tiny dogs in the world - I explained my fears to her from the very beginning. She said she knew how to take care of them but Vets need to be careful of what they say. So few of these tiny pups - send them to a Vet who really knows them - She was only interested in how much money she was making and they took that quickly enough. Never said anything about offering my money back - or for that matter, as one of many breeders of tiny dogs said, she should have refunded the cost of the puppy! I bought a healthy, happy puppy - smart, energetic, loving - should never have died! Her cost and I would have paid it ten times over - $4500.00. And Dr. Widay took my little love and my money without a second thought.
