Businiess name:  Jake's Hamburgers

Review content:
Continuing my reviews of the top eating places (see my review of Sal's Pizza), I just got back from Jake's Hamburgers on Skillman. I went up to the counter to place my order and the first thing I notice was a tip jar. My first thought was, ""Why would I give a tip when there are no waiters/waitresses here serving me? It's a self-service food place!"" Anyway, I placed an order for a double cheesburger, fries, and a drink. After I placed my order it didn't take long before my number was called. My first disappointment came when I seen my order of fries. It was about half as many fries as I was expecting. However, I was impressed to see my double cheeseburger to be a fairly big burger. The sesame seed buns were unusually tasty and the hamburger meat was also good. However, after biting into my burger, here is where my second - and biggest disappointment - of Jake's hamburger came. My double cheesburger was not hot ... it was only lukewarm. A big part of the taste of a hamburger (or any food, really) is for it to be hot, or at least very close to it. The cheeseburger I ate had warmish meat and slightly cool cheese. As I said, I much prefer hot (or nearly hot) meat, cheese and bun. None of these ingredients were hot. For me, that really took away from the taste. Despite that, it still was a very good burger. As for the fries, they were average. The size of the french fries were about medium and the taste was average. Not bad but not not great either.\r \r My final analysis is ... I don't think Jake's should've been voted as the 2006 #1 hamburger in Dallas (as voted by the readers here at Citysearch). Even though it was very good, I've had better hamburgers elsewhere. Having said that, that is not a knock on Jake's. Their hamburgers are very good, but if you want to enjoy it even more then take it home and put it in your microwave.\r \r I will next give the 2006 Editorial Winner - The Angry Dog - a try. Let's hope it has more bite than Jake's. Pros: Big burgers Cons: Burgers are not hot enough
