Really ?? It is Great !! 4/10/2010

I went there a couple of months ago in the afternoon and had a great hamburger. The service was nice and the waitres was great too. Dont forget the fries, I really liked them. I will DEFINATELY BE BACK. Knocked one off my list of Texas's Best Hamburgers. It may have been #50 but sure BEAT #1. and I have had #1. Pros: Burgers and special sauce Cons: parking more

Service so Poor that we walked out 3/20/2009

After waiting for 10 minutes for anyone from the wait staff to acknownledge us, my wife and I gave up and walked out. They were NOT busy and we seated ourselves in a booth as we had done before. What was sad is that we were about 10 feet away from the waitress station and not one waitress stopped to ask us ANYTHING. We have eaten at Jake's before, found the hamburgers to be OK but the service has always lacking. This time was the worst- a total ZERO. With this kind of service, I doubt that they will survive. Pros: Who knows- wait staff didn't seem to care Cons: Terrible service more

Don't believe the rating!! 8/20/2007

My wife and I went to Jake's expecting one of the best hamburgers in Dallas and got one of the worst. The hamburger was bland at best and not as good as most fast food restuarants. Tater tots and onion rings were probably purchased frozen from the a local food store. Being able to purchase a case of beer must be the only reason people go there. This experience ruined are Sunday afternoon. Cons: Hamburger did not taste good. more

very average at best 4/30/2007

This burger is very average at best. I want to know how much they had to pay to get the top rating on your site. Pros: Vey Dairy Queen like Ok but not special Cons: average bread, meat, lettuce, etc.. more

Big, very good (though not great) hamburgers 9/23/2006

Continuing my reviews of the top eating places (see my review of Sal's Pizza), I just got back from Jake's Hamburgers on Skillman. I went up to the counter to place my order and the first thing I notice was a tip jar. My first thought was, ""Why would I give a tip when there are no waiters/waitresses here serving me? It's a self-service food place!"" Anyway, I placed an order for a double cheesburger, fries, and a drink. After I placed my order it didn't take long before my number was called. My first disappointment came when I seen my order of fries. It was about half as many fries as I was expecting. However, I was impressed to see my double cheeseburger to be a fairly big burger. The sesame seed buns were unusually tasty and the hamburger meat was also good. However, after biting into my burger, here is where my second - and biggest disappointment - of Jake's hamburger came. My double cheesburger was not hot ... it was only lukewarm. A big part of the taste of a hamburger (or any food, really) is for it to be hot, or at least very close to it. The cheeseburger I ate had warmish meat and slightly cool cheese. As I said, I much prefer hot (or nearly hot) meat, cheese and bun. None of these ingredients were hot. For me, that really took away from the taste. Despite that, it still was a very good burger. As for the fries, they were average. The size of the french fries were about medium and the taste was average. Not bad but not not great either.\r \r My final analysis is ... I don't think Jake's should've been voted as the 2006 #1 hamburger in Dallas (as voted by the readers here at Citysearch). Even though it was very good, I've had better hamburgers elsewhere. Having said that, that is not a knock on Jake's. Their hamburgers are very good, but if you want to enjoy it even more then take it home and put it in your microwave.\r \r I will next give the 2006 Editorial Winner - The Angry Dog - a try. Let's hope it has more bite than Jake's. Pros: Big burgers Cons: Burgers are not hot enough more

Jakes is the best 8/7/2006

Did the gig in Uptown. Great time on Thursdays with live music. Then did the drive thru at Skillman on the way home from work. Can't beat it, with a case of beer to go. Then, one weekend up in Plano and found the new Jakes Joint. Claire the bartender is a hoot. The Rooster is a great change of pace. you gotta try em all. Pros: Taste more

ALL JAKES ROCK!!! 5/23/2006

I have had burgers at all the Jakes and they all ROCK!!! Best burger in Dallas!!! more

Much better then Uptown 5/19/2006

This hamburger joint in Lake Highlands is leaps and bounds better than the Uptown location. If you want the real deal, try the original location at Skillman and Abrams. You'll taste the difference! more
