When I pay a monthly fee to work out, I expect to be treated well. I mean, we can all buy weights and stay at home or we could all jog around the block or play basket ball at a nearby park. I don't have to have a membership to a workout "club." Thus, I expect to be teated well when I do pay for something that is optional. The Health and Athletic Center treats me well and so I've agreed to give them my hard earned money every month. I'll go ahead and voice my only complaint. CONTROL YOUR KIDS! If you bring them, control them. I don't like dodging basketballs in the gym when I am shooting hoops. I don't like asking kids to stop running around or pushing my elliptical machine while I fake jog on it. I certainly don't mind yelling at your kids either, if you won't. Now, the kid issue is rare, but is such an annoyance that I had to say something and I suppose it happens everywhere. The Health and Athletic Center of Lewisville/Flower Mound treats me well. How well? There are three floors of workout goodness at the center. The first floor is huge. 1/3 of it houses the free weights, the middle1/3 has treadmills and excersize bikes, and the other 1/3 has a swimming pool that I have not visited even though I've been a member for about 4 years now (I fear all public pools). Level two is the level you walk into. You have a reception desk where you check in and some meeting rooms that I've never been in. There is also a coke machine and some sort of healthy drink center that offers shakes, water based drinks, and your various supplements (for a fee of course). On that same level is the basketball gym that houses one regulation size court with four extra baskets on the sides. Level three features and 1/4 mile (I think) track that circles above the basketball court. There is also a classroom for those insanely strenuous aerobic classes. My favorite, though, are the elliptical bikes and treadmills on this floor. They are excellent machines and have LCD TVs attached to every single one of them. You can either listen to your music, watch TV (espn and fox news are offered), or plug your ear phones into the TV and just listen as you watch people jog around the track. What a great way to get out of breath!!! and lose weight, I guess. Throughout every floor you have a series of TVs that are usually tuned into the game of the night, but are also available to be changed. Make sure no one is watching the programming that is on though, people get mad about that! I lied earlier, there are two other complaints. One, I wish the people at the front desk would smile and look at me when I hand them my card. Not a big deal in my book, but a little recognition for the $30 or $40 I'm paying every month to keep them employed. Number Two, played at this gym is the softest of soft music: Celine Dion, Michale Jackson, Chicago, and so on. I guess they do this to make sure that the 'roiders don't get insane from listening to Dokken or Stone Temple Pilots. I don't know if you've ever seen roid rage, but it is quite a spectacle. I'm ok with the music selection, it's just that getting pumped up to "Stay the Night" is near impossible. Bring your own music, I beseech you! Overall, there are way too many positives offered at this gym for me to even dwell on the three small negatives. The gym's hours are something like 6am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and 7am to 8pm on weekends. They offer promotional give aways if you keep track of weight loss or how much you work out. I'm telling you, this place is awesome. They even have a day care center for the mommies who work out...which is why I get so crazy when kids run around the gym when I'm working on my three point shot. That's also why I workout late at night. I love the flexibility this gym give me!!!! I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 if I could.
