Telemarketing is not only a tough gig, it is one of the very few employment options for a lot of people. Companies who use telemarketers to promote their product know that TMs are generally very vulnerable financially. I quit working for Maximum Security nearly a year ago and have yet to receive my last paycheck. When I went to the Labor Board for my first hearing, there was at least one other ex-employee who hadn't been paid either. Even though Maximum Security admitted to having ""lost"" my check, they still refuse to agree to a reasonable settlement. Even if (when?) the Commission finds in my favor, enforcing the order will be tough, since the company is based in another state. If you are shopping for a home security system, I would advise you to shop locally and research the companies' reputation with former and current employees. Before anyone chimes in with anti-telemarketer sentiments, please remember that it is a rough, low-paying job and often the only option a person has in terms of employment. Also, have some compassion for those who have worked and not been paid. Steer clear.
