Brazas is a Churrascaria – the name used to describe a restaurant that serves meat, mostly grilled, Rodizio-style - a method of serving the different cuts of meat that originated in the south of Brazil in the early 1800's. Meat is cooked on large spits rotisserie-style for hours to seal in the best juices and flavors of the meat (especially beef). This is a one-of-a-kind dining experience and I can’t understand why it is not more popular. This restaurant does not to do it as elegantly as some of the similar style restaurants like Fogo de Chao or Plataforma, but it is still quite good. There is a buffet with all sorts of salad/cold cuts, Brazilian dishes, fried plantains, etc. While you sit at your table, you are given a card with Green on one side, Red on the other. That indicates to the gauchos (waiters) whether you want to meat to “keep coming” or not. So long as it’s Green, gauchos will come to your table with all sorts of meats: chicken or turkey wrapped in bacon, fried alligator, spareribs, many cuts of beef (absolute best is the Pichana – pronounced pe-KAN-ya, the tenderloin), lamb, and more! The service can be a little slow, but all this for $25 a person is quite a deal! Go hungry and prepare to leave very satisfied!
