Good deal on the Upper East Side 5/14/2006

I'll admit, the only reason I go to Frankie's is for the Hungarian food that used to make up Mocca's menu. Mocca used to be just one block over until Frankie's bought them off and merged their menu into Frankie's. While it's another unfortunate sign of the Hungarian flavor that used to make up the East 80s, at least there's something to hold onto. Their prix fixe lunch is a true bargan, a feast for a king for just 8 bucks. Initially, there was a little bit of catching up to do, but now their assimilation of the Mocca menu has come along nicely. The cucumber salad is still not the same, but everything else comes close. Which means I won't be suffering withdrawal from my favorite dish - the wiener schnitzel - which is breaded veal, accompanied by a side of hash potatoes. Followed by a dessert of a walnut and apricot palacinta (crepes), my Hungarian roots are satisfied until my next visit. more
