I’ve been seeing Dr Marie Annette Brown for several years (she’s a nurse practitioner with a PHD) and have always felt lucky to have found her. She is very busy, popular and teaches at the nursing school so she doesn’t see patents full time. But she exemplifies what a doctor’s visit should be all about, very knowledgeable about the current research, empathetic, a good listener, insightful, and admits when I’ve stumped her with a question ( e.g. I asked about some test she didn’t know a lot about) and then actually calls me back within a couple of days when she’s looked in to it with her opinion and recommendations, she’s also referred me to several other great specialists when necessary. The few times I’ve needed to go in quicker than they could fit me on her schedule – I’ve seen other doctors in the Woman’s Clinic and had similarly great experiences.
So the only down side to going to the Women’s Clinic at the UW Medical Center(UWMC) on Roosevelt is the billing experience I’ve had with the UW system… which is horrible (I’d almost go as far as saying some of the people I’ve had contact with in the billing department are incompetent or just need to retire e.g. seemed to have difficulty with using the computer and entering or extracting information)I’ve tried to pay bills before over the phone only to find out that some how the person taking the information didn’t do something right so the bill goes unpaid, and I don’t find out until a month or more later when I get another statement (this can be particularly aggravating when you’re trying to use your flexible spending account). Plus, the other down side is that my current insurance seems to view them as a hospital so I have a double co-pay (one for the doctor’s visit and one for seeing the doctor at the UWMC
), which isn’t that big of deal considering the great doctors but the other issues with their billing problems might end up making me go elsewhere.
