The New York Center for Interpersonal Development (Used to be known as Young People's Information Service - YPIS) does a great service to the community - they provide mediation of smaller court cases and community disputes. And there are a lot of community disputes on Staten Island, as you know if you live here. A lot of "get your tree off my property" kind of stuff that just bogs down the courts but can be so easily mediated into a solution. NYCID teaches classes in mediation, runs programs in island high schools to teach peer mediation, and lightens the load on our busy civil courts.
