Best

I have been visiting my brother who lives in San Francsico for years, and we always plan to make reservations at Zingari. We both love to sit back and listen to live entertainmen...

Worst

always using Cutysearch for finding restaurants, i was intrigued by this restaurant. i am always looking for upscale places that offer a prix-fixe menu. well after a long day of...

spend your money $$$ elsewhere 9/19/2005

our experience can be described as horrible spending more than $40 per person. neuvo-italian . fair-good but limited menu. service below par. we had missing place settings even after our appetizers were served. wait staff non existent. should have been a clue to leave when the host decided on the corecage fee based upon how we looked! I have been to dive italian restaurants with better attitude to their customers. they're just after your money here. i have been to italy and the food doesn't even compare. anyone who has written a positive review must have gotten a different cook or host. Cons: service, italian wanna-be, loud more

This restaurant is worth visiting again and again 5/31/2005

My friend found out about this restaurant on the internet as we were going to see a play at the curren Theatre and we wanted to dine nearby before the show. It was the most pleasant dining experience we have had in a long time. The service was promplt, friendly and efficient, the food was simply divine and the ambiance was cozy. There were four os us in our party and we dine out pretty regularly, and we all decided that this place is worth visiting again and again. As we were leaving we found out that they have Live jazz in their Piano lounge every single day of the year. After our show we decided to go back to Zingari for a night cap and to enjoy their Jazz. They had a trio playing that was quite entertaining. I will certainly recommend this place to all my friends. Pros: Close to theatre, Valet parking, great wine list more

A Dining Experience that I would remember forever 5/27/2005

This restaurant was recommended by the conceirge of The St francis hotel. and we truely had a memorable dining experience. Upon arrival we were greeted graciously by a Gentleman. Soon Stefano, our server arrived and greeted us warmly. He took our initial drink order & told us the specials of the evening. We took some of his suggestions and I must say that we were very glad that we did. Both my Husbend and my self Shared a Mozzerealla Alforno and a salad that was made with Artichokes and Fennel with Citrus and mint Vinaigrette. They were both incredible. We had the Scallops and Seafood Risotto for entrees and we just as impressed with them as well. We were so happy with our dining experience that I can't wait to go back. We come to SF on business quite often and we will certainly be vising this place again. Pros: Great ambiance, live jazz, Location more

User review by dimples6477 5/16/2005

I agree that this restaurant would not even be recommended if it were the last place on earth. The hostess was a snob, the waitress didn't even speak English, the full bar couldn't even make a martini and did not have Apple Pucker to make an Apple Martini, and the food was not worth the expensive pricing. My Linguine Vongole was soooo salty and the clams were filled with sand. It was probably the worst meal I have had in a long time. And to think that I paid $$$$ to be tortured with disgusting food. I will never go there again. Sad...that the only reason I went there was because I was staying at the hotel and was given certificates good for food at that restaurant. Cons: expensive, bad service more

horrible place 8/18/2004

we went there to have dinner on my husband's 5oth birthday, it was horrible. The vegetarian food is horrible. The service is not good. Don't go there, it was horrible experience. the jazz was horrible too, it is a very small restaurant. more

Not Impressed At All 6/21/2004

This is an uppity Italian place, if you like lasagna or spaghetti with meatballs and a regular Caesar salad you won't like this place. The ambiance and our servers were great, but I was not impressed with the food at all. I had a filet that looked like the burnt end of a rump roast and tasted awful and was tough. The appetizers were nothing to write home about either. But the drinks were good and strong. However, I'm not one for ""fancy food"" and this place definitely had the ""fancy food"". I was here with a large group for a convention so it was not a choice made by me. I will not be returning either. Pros: Strong drinks, Ambiance, Good Service Cons: , Very dark inside more

Worst experience in the city 4/6/2004

We went to Zingari on Christmas night for a special dinner. To my dismay, the service was so atrocious that I could barely enjoy my meal. I am a patient person with much understanding, but what I experienced was beyond what I can normally handle. Our waiter was not only absent minded, returning to retake our orders repeatedly, but also rude. He actually told us that he was drunk. When I finally asked about our meal, after waiting at least forty-five minutes, he haughtily said it was coming. It was clear when it arrived that it had been sitting for some time. It was overall a terrible experience. The surrounding tables could be heard muttering sentiments of the same accord. I even sent an email to the manager (TWICE) and got no response. It was incredibly disappointing and I hope everyone spreads the word. Cons: , cold food more

Worst Valentine's Dinner Ever 2/17/2004

This was the second time that I have dined at Zingari and definitely the last. Except for the host and hostess at the restaurant, everyone else was either rude or indifferent. I understand that it was V-Day and crowded but we spent over $200 for a meal that was so bad, we went out for pizza afterwards. My meat, for the second time, was overcooked and tasteless. When we mentioned that the food was not good to the waiter, he simply said, ""Sorry. "" Whatever! I will never go there again!! Pros: Friendly Host/Hostess Cons: , Poor wait service more

As if I was in Italy 2/3/2004

Excellent food and warm & gracious hospitalty awaits you at the gem of a restaurant. It reminded me of my dining experiences in Italy. I found this place on the web as I was looking to find a place near the Curran theatre. I had not heard about this place, but I thought I will give a try. It was a wonderful dining experience. Food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the service was friendly and efficient. It seems like everybody I came in touch with, truely cared about my dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. By the way they have this Wild Boar Osso Buco on the menu, it was simply the best I have ever had. Go try for yourself. you will be glad you did. Pros: Valet Parking, Moderate Prices, Great Food & service more

The next best thing to being in Italy 1/14/2003

What a wonderful Italian restaurant. A friend recommended this restaurant and I went there this past Friday. The food exceeded my expectations, service was most friendly & personable that I have ever experienced. Its a small restaurant, so it is perfect for intimate dinners where you get plenty of attention. There lounge was featuring Live Jazz that sounded great. I wish had more time as I needed to be some where after our dinner. I found out that they have live Jazz seven nights a week. I am definitely going back to enjoy more of this excellent restaurant. Pros: Moderate Prices, Great food & service, Enntertaining Jazz more

It doesn't get any better 1/2/2003

I was there this past New Year's eve with my girl friend, and they had arranged a wonderful three course meal with dancing to a Jazz band. The whole experience was tremendous. Dinner was delicious, service was superb, ambiance with all the new year eve decorations was festive and band was just incredible. I usually don't dance that much, burt I couldn't stop dancing that evening. I had so much that both my girl friend & I decided that we are going there on Valantines's day. Oh by the way the whole meal was delicious, but their Duck was out of this world. I highly recommend this place as they have Live music - Jazz seven nights a week and its a very friendly place. The food was not only presented beautifully, it tasted great as well. Pros: Valet Parking, Great entertainment, friendly staff more

Zingari: next best thing to being there. 12/15/2002

The best ""traditional"" northern Italian cuisine this side of Tuscany. Professional, yet personable service, nice decor, both in the ""Florence"" room and the windowed dining room overlooking Post St., showcase the stellar preparations of the head chef. A fine wine list featuring many hard to find Italian labels makes this undiscovered restaurant a rare treasure. Pros: service, food, wine list more

Zingari is truly a SF treat 11/27/2002

Zingari is a gem. I was completely taken in by the charm, ambience, and the quality of the food of this cozy resturant situated in the Donatello hotel in Union Sqaure. I was visiting San francisco from Boston and stayed at the St. Francis Hotel in Union Square. I went out to some of the better known San francisco resturants like Postrio, Aquarillo and Farallon but none compared to the food, especially the lobster, I had at Zingari, . The live jazz music was fun and added to the charm of the resturant. The service was gracious and our Italian waiter, Massimo, provided us with hepful suggestions. Zingari is truly a SF treat. We plan to go back to Zingari for Thanksgiving meal; the menu looks great. Pros: romantic, great value for money, accessible location more

That Risotto was out Of this world 11/22/2002

I have been to this restaurant many times before and each time it gets better. I live near downtown walking distance from Zingari, and this by far is my favourite restaurant. I was there last night and tried their Risotto with Sliced Duck. I tell you it doesn't get any better. My friend tried their Veal Osso Buco and that was yummy too. In the bar they had this lady by the name ""Yoly"" singing and she had the most beautiful voice. I found out that she sang for ""King and I"" in New York Broadway. I sat their lisening to her for an hour and I was just mesmerized by the sheer talent she had. We found out that she plays their every Thursday from 7.30 PM to 11.30 PM. I am going their next Thursday again to try their Thanksgiving day menu, and boy it looks fabulous. Pros: Moderade Pricing, friendly service, entertainment more

Memorable Dining Experience 11/21/2002

Last week I found Zingari Ristorante on City Search. I was taking my wife for a play and I wanted a restaurant near Theatre District. It was the most memorable dining esperience I have ever had. The food was great. We arrived little rate for our reservation, so I was worried about rushing through our meal. Our waiter, Jose sensed our anxiety and told us not to worry. He made great recommendations and we had a wonderful three course meal without being rushed. My main course, ""Scampi' was to die for. My wife equally enjoyed her Monk fish. Oh, by the way they have a great wine list too. Jose invited us to the Piano Lounge for some Live Jazz. We did go back after our seeing our show at Curran, and enjoyed the Jazz music at Zingari. You ought to give this place a try, you will be pleased. Pros: Great food, Friendly service, Great Loction more

Best Italian Food In San Francisco 11/20/2002

I love Italian Food and I have been to Italy at least five times. A friend recommended this restaurant and we went there last Saturday night. The restaurant was quite busy and we had one of the most elegant dining experience. The food and the service was simply the best I have ever received. The staff was so friendly, caring and knowledgeable. The food was simply divine. The Frito Misto, a combination of Calamari, Prawns, Artchokes and Fennel reminded me of Italy. Our Entrees were Filet Mignon topped with Foie gras, and Roasted Branzino (Italian Seabass) that was carved tabe side. Both were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody. Pros: Location, ambiance, Jazz music Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

If only I could forget about it! 11/9/2002

Our experience at Zingari was so horrid, that I'm actually hoping that I will be able to block it out of my mind completely. 1) Free valet parking turned into $25 parking 2) Rude, cold impersonal waiter 3) $30 for 4 small ravioli 4) no refills on water, 2 small pieces of bread 5) It was so dark that we couldn't read the menu 6) The ""live jazz"" was incapable of reading their music 7) We had to pay our $75 tab and head to a diner to fill our hunger. Pros: good location, discounts available Cons: horrible service, overpriced, tiny portions more

Not Worth The Trouble 11/4/2002

I went with my fiance on Saturday night for a pre theater meal and we were EXTREMELY dissapointed. We waited almost 20 minutes to get water and didn't even get bread. We found out we had ordered from the LUNCH menu only after my fiance looked at his dish and realized it was not what he ordered. There was supposed to be homemade sausage in it. When he told the waitor, he said ""oh no there is no sausage in this, just enjoy the basil and tomato."" To top things off, on the website it mentions that if you correctly identify what their names means, you will get a complimentary bottle of wine. But, when we got to the restaurant, there was no wine waiting for us. There are so many other, better Italian restaurants in the area, we will never return. Cons: Service more

dirty place 8/2/2002

As I look and observe the place I wasn't impressed at all. The place is so dirty including the Bar Area. The Table Entry was full of dust and the chairs of the dining room is full of crumbs. We went to the bar to get something to drink while we wait for our guests to arrive and the bar counter is so sticky. Mirrors are full of fingerprints and Glass window over looking the lobby of the hotel. And we sat down to look at the menu everything is so over price and an old server approach us and his really weird, he will laugh for no reason and he talks really slow. The food is okey it wasnt italian at all. I could go to an american restaurant cusine and find very similar food also. All I could say I don't recomend this restaurant at all. Pros: Good Parking Cons: Expensive, Very Dirty, Slow Service more

Excellent Italian Dining, Moderate Price 6/5/2002

I took my wife their this past weekend and we both had the most fabulous dinig experience. The service was outstanding. Our server, Herbert was extremely knowledgeable and made some very good recommendatins. I had Herb crusted Ahi Tuna that was served rare, just the way I wanted. My wife had a Duck Rissotto with Chianti Demi Glaze, according to her that was the best Rissoto she ever had. We certainly will be going back and also recommending this to allour friends. Pros: Great Theatre Locatio, Moderate Prices, Excellent Live Jazz more
