Best Restaurant in Philly Hands Down 3/23/2011

Yakitori Boy is by far the best restaurant in Philadelphia especially for those who want to have parties. This restaurant has a sophisticated set up with the restaurant being on the first floor while the karaoke bar and lounge are on the second floor. What really sold me on throwing my party there was that Yakitori Boy has private karaoke rooms that can fit anywhere between 6 to 30 people. I made a reservation for my girlfriend?s surprise birthday party and I have to say I?m glad I did. The food and the service were exceptional from beginning to end. There was not one moment during the night where are sake glasses stayed empty for more than a few minutes because a waiter constantly came by to refill them. We ordered the lily and cherry sushi platters for our twelve person party which was the best sushi I ever tasted. We all ordered entrees which came out pretty quickly considering that there were twelve people. The karaoke selection had a diverse selection of classics from our childhood that we could not just pick a few. The only downside to this experience was that the place closes at 2a.m. For anyone who?s looking for a place to throw birth parties, anniversary dinners, or just a get together with some friends, Yakitori Boy is the ideal place to do it. My girlfriend and her friends loved the atmosphere, the food, and the staff. Just make sure that you call ahead of time and make reservations so everything will be perfect. more

YaCkitori Boy 12/1/2009

I never can understand how places like this that are so poorly run can stay afloat? Girl working the front (whom I was told was the manager) was totally stuck up and rude (I think her name was Kay, or Kate, or something...). -- If you've ever watched the movie ""Wanted"" this bitch reminded me of the fat boos lady from the movie. And the ""bouncer"" was a total moron. First off, who tries to start a fight with patrons? This guy had the IQ of an ox's ass. It's a shame, because the food was decent, and it seemed like it had a nice ambience. But the bitch of a manager, and her dumbass sidekick just ruined the whole night. I would not recommend this place to anyone! Cons: idiot ""bouncer"" and horrible management more

Good Sushi 10/15/2009

Great sushi deals in the city. Pros: Nothing Cons: Service, Management, Staff, Food more

Nice place to take friends. 8/2/2009

I bring my friends here all the time when there's no where else to go and we want cheap, fast, food and to get something not found in other restaurants in the area. Most of the staff is generally attentive, the food is inexpensive but be prepared to order a lot to get full. Seems like a nice place for college students and singles. Pros: only place in Philly to get takoyaki Cons: always spend more than you think you will more

Totally Rude Obnoxious Management! 6/21/2009

I stayed at a upscale downtown hotel unfortunately they sushi chef had left for the night, so the bartender recommended this place & draw a map so we could find it walking from the hotel. Arrived and walked in and was immediately told by the bouncer at the front that the management instructed him to not allow us to enter. I stood there with disbelief not understanding why we were be rudely rejected but others where still be allowed to enter. I asked him why and he informed me with quite some verbal force to leave and again that WE are not allowed in. My friend turned & said lets just get out of here. This was totally humiliating & embarrassing -doing nothing wrong be rejected without explanation. It drew so much attention, I had several of they're patrons stopping me asking me what went wrong as I left. After leaving and gathering myself, I called the restaurant to get the managements name, and the female hostess promptly gave Anthony & K. She also asked did I want to speak with management currently on duty I asked what was his name she informed K, so I then asked what was the bouncers name & she stated Milton. I told her that I would need to speak to someone else, she then asked what happened. I briefly informed her, she stated that she did not understand at the time because she was helping the guy that was in front of me when everything happened. She asked me to return to speak with management, and I did. Once my friend & I returned, I walked in to the Bouncer (Milton), Manager (K, who informed bouncer not to allow us to enter, and the female hostess discussing there mistake. They began apologizing, and informed that they had mistaken me for someone else, after being informed this I was shocked. He then asked did I want to be seated, I informed them that they did not handle the situation properly. I then stated to them that they had totally, humiliated in front of they're patron, why would I then want to enter and walked away. The manager then pretty much tried to convince my friend for us to return and he would comp our meal & a drink. Sorry no offer of free meals & drinks can allow me to want to return. If I was treated like that at the door trying to enter, I definitely do not feel confident with them cooking my dinner. Hope mistaken identity happens to no more of there patrons. Pros: Looks Nice From The Outside Cons: Horrible management & door staff. more

All Looks and No Personality 5/12/2009

I went to Yakitori Boy for the first time this past Friday with several other co-workers. First, you have to pay to do karaoke in the regular lounge. Not to mention, the staff messed up one of my karaoke orders; when I prompted the gent to correct it, he told me to make sure I came prepared with the proper code. Nevermind he messed up my request in the first place. Not like I was singing karaoke for free, either. Pros: The exit Cons: The price, the stuffy atmosphere, the cavalier service... more

Whould not honor my reservation to make an extra buck... 12/10/2008

Although the food was mediocre at best and the song selection was poor, I used to be a proponent of Yakitori Boy (mostly because I love karaoke) until my most recent experience...About three weeks ago, I called and reserved a 20 person karaoke room for my friends to celebrate NYE. Upon making the reservation, I sent out invitations to my friends confirming our plans. Yesterday (3 weeks before NYE), a manager called me and told me that they would not honor my reservation unless I was willing to pay $2,200 instead of the $280 that was confirmed when I originally placed the reservation (WOW!). The manager acknowledged that he was doing the same thing to another reservation that was placed. I warn you in advance, if you are thinking about planning an event at Yakitori Boy, please be aware that if ownership believes that they can make an extra buck, they will have no problem breaking their agreement leaving you and your friends stranded with no place to go. That is enough for this former patron to never return again. It also makes me wonder what other ethical standards are they breaking in order to make an extra buck... Pros: Live karaoke Cons: reservations, service, food, music selection more

Fun place 9/4/2008

Been here numerous times with different groups of friends. As previously noted, the staff at Yakitori are very attentive and they don't leave you hanging like some other restaurants. The food is good and the drinks are inventive. The menu selection is quite large...i still haven't tried everything on the menu!! Pros: Food, ambiance, karaoke Cons: Parking more

Interesting food, fun drinks, awesome karaoke 8/22/2008

Food is great. Inventive and fun. Different (at least for Philly). Great drink menu. Awesome staff...well, the female bartender and our cocktail waitress were awesome. I did speak to one manager on the phone (a dude) who was a real a$$-clown. Their karaoke rooms are PERFECT for a party night. Good to know: Sunday-thursday they are half-price. Honestly, even at full price, they are reasonable. And the service in the rooms is flawless. Pros: Fun drinks, energetic staff, fun food Cons: The neighborhood is kind of poopy more

great place to go with friends! 3/3/2008

We loved yogitori boy! We went on a Friday night. The service was impeccable. Everyone who was working was really nice and attentive, they were full of reccomendations on the menu. We had some sushi and some yogitori (their specialty), and some fun yummy specialty martinis. After our meal we headed upstairs for some karoake . They do provide rooms you can rent out but I think its more fun to hang in the lounge with other kariokiers and have a sing along. We will definately be back ! Pros: service, ambience, sushi more
