I LOVE THIS PLACE, GREAT ATMOSPHERE, HEALTHY FOOD, THEY HAVE SOME LIVE MUSIC 3 NIGHTS A WEEK AND THE GARDEN IS JUST A PARADISE WITH A COMPUTER FOR A GREAT HAPPY HOURS, FOR A FREE LIVE MUSIC OR A PERFECT BRUNCH , THANK YOU PHOEBES Pros: GREAT ATMOSPHERE Cons: SOMETIMES A LITTE SLOW more

Phoebe's Cafe is a gem!!! 2/11/2009

If you are looking for a laid-back cozy coffee spot with great affordable food, some cool neighborhood characters and free internet, then Phoebe?s is the place for you. I sat down today with my computer for three hours and noone bothered me, aside from checking how I liked my BLT (amazing!!!) and if I needed a refill on my coffee. The new owner, a French musician, has made some improvements to the place. Most evenings, you can enjoy live music with your food and grab some beers during their happy hour! And did I mention they have a garden in the back? Can?t wait for spring!!! Pros: Laid-back, cozy neighborhood coffeeshop with free internet more

Just avoid 10/15/2008

I am honestly surprised by reviews of Phoebes Cafe that are even slightly sympathetic. Both of my visits to this restaurant have been absolutely horrible experiences and a complete waste of money. While the food is of a comparable quality, the service and the coffee is beyond horrendous. \r I live nearby and so was anxious to try the cafe out as it has a variety of vegetarian food on the menu and offers Wi-Fi. Don't let this trick you in!! I was forced to sit at a dirty table during both of my visits, and was not given napkins or silverware either. The coffee I was served during my first visit was cold enough that I was forced to ask for a new cup, and when the new cup was served to me I was unable to drink it as it tasted not like coffee but like some type of strange, funky brew. \r Besides the filthy conditions of the restaurant, the fact that you can't eat in their ""garden"" due to all the permitted cigarette smoking, and having to ask for such basic things as napkins, the employees that ""served"" me during both visits both failed to write down my order and forgot large portions of it. That's right, TWO different servers on TWO separate visits forgot things from my order. The first time it was just a pastry I ordered to go with my coffee, but the second time it was my entree. \r Besides forgetting my entree (and another tip: Do Not order the tuna sandwich unless you like very spicy horse radish mustard, which is ALL over the sandwich even though it says nothing about it on the menu), my husband and I waited for over 15 minutes before even having our drink order taken during my second visit. All the employees just looked at us without so much as a hello while they, well I don't know. \r I regretted very much giving this place a second chance after my first disappointing visit and felt that I was robbed of the money I spent on my meal. I would advise all people in the hood to avoid this place at all costs! Pros: a menu with a lot of variety Cons: BAD service, dirty conditions, people allowed to smoke in garden more

too expensive! 3/18/2007

I've been here countless times. I stopped going about a year ago because I felt like I was abusing myself everytime I went to Phoebe's. The waitstaff doesn't want to take your order. They always get it wrong. The food is not cheap. It is uninspired and tastes gross. You can go around the corner and get better food & service, at half the price. The place is not clean. Although the garden is back is cute, it is nothing special. And if you sit out there the waitress will forget about you entirely. Just forget about this place. I honestly can't believe it is still open! Cons: expensive, boring, bad staff, dirty, yucky place. more

I have been to Phoebe's maybe 5 times in the past 6 years and just went today and was impressed by the expanded menu. I had an awesome tofu sandwich that made my day. The garden is really nice, and overall the experience was very relaxing. Pros: delicious food, great outdoor space, low key more

Easy cafe, no fuss, not cheap 8/17/2002

A slice of Bedford Ave hipster action, but a little less pretentious and a modicum more friendly. The food is good (the granola and oatmeal are fantastic) and not too expensive (the Garden Grill across the way is a much better value and far less pretentious. In fact, that word has probably never crossed the lips of the saucy Polish waitress there). I don't think it's horrible, but if you want more healthy breakfast fair in this neighborhood you'll have to make it at home. Garden is the biggest plus. Waitstaff=sometimes great, sometimes lackluster, sometimes awful. more

why bother? 7/28/2002

Waitstaff can barely be troubled to take your order and the place smells like a stale ashtray. No amount of art-hip can cover that up. The one positive thing is the outdoor seating. Pros: outdoor seating Cons: obnoxious service, stale smell more
