Savory chow and the green tea is killer! I highly recommend this joint to anyone who love Chinese Cuisine! Pros: Everything Cons: Parking is a little difficult but worth ...

Village Wok offers authentic Cantonese that is not up to the level of better choices like China Crown in Roseville or Shuang Cheng in Dinkytown. But they are there, and Village Wo...

Oh how I love you wok! 5/24/2004

The Village Wok is AMAZING! It is so awesome to see a great Chinese food sticking to their laurels; dishing up authentic great tummy hugging food with amazing friendly & fun service! I drive WEEKLY from Blaine to Minneapolis just to visit them and enjoy the cities finest in Chinese food to warm my heart and tummy! Thanks so much to the owners they really know how to keep it simple and make us happy! -Jen Henson Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Amazing Service Cons: , none, none more

The Wok that Rocks! 1/2/2004

Back-to-school ambience (you'll soon get used to the din and frequent guffaws) with super food, student-oriented prices and owl-hours (sizzling hot chinese at 1.45am - beat that!)... it's da best! Our faves - all Lobster (try the ginger scallion sauce although the huge ginger pieces might not work for everyone), Shrimp (Seafood War Bar) dishes and the always dependable Lo Mein! Pros: Cheap, Open Late, Lively more

Among the better Chinese places 6/13/2003

Among the better chinese places in the Twin Cities. Certainly not good chinese cuisine. but compared to the other places around, it would seem like a star. Food quality is more consistent here. I think I would rate it slightly lower then HK noodle. Overall, the quality of Chinese food in the Twin Cities is dismal. Pros: large menu, rapid service, proximity to U of M Cons: cramped, dirty, so-so food more

Best noodle shop 5/23/2003

What's not to love about this small Chinese stop by the U of M? The atmosphere is plain, but the food is always piping hot and delivered to your table with lightening speed. Two can easily eat here with appetizer and two entrees for under twenty dollars. The fun noodles are the most authentic I've found in the Twin Cities: they taste direct from Chinatown in L.A. Pros: food, service, inexpensive Cons: hard to find parking more

Good value for the money 5/13/2003

This place has the best Sweet & Sour soup that I've tasted in the cities. It's a must when you stop here for lunch and/or dinner. Most of the dishes are good, but not great. If you want great food then you should check out some of my other restaurant reviews. I also enjoy the shrimp with chinese broccoli - it's great with the hot sauce. The decor isn't the best, and the service is ok, but the food is very good which makes up for the rest, right? Would you like to have lousy food and great service? Pros: food, price Cons: atmosphere, parking more

acceptable Cantonese 4/5/2003

Village Wok offers authentic Cantonese that is not up to the level of better choices like China Crown in Roseville or Shuang Cheng in Dinkytown. But they are there, and Village Wok is here. I thought it is a perfectly acceptable alternative after library time, and in any event well ahead of the standard Chinese-American slop. But I have returned and ordered badly and had nothing but that slop, so choose carefully and do not expect too much. Pros: authentic, inexpensive, large menu Cons: restaurant smell, greasy more

Good fast Chinese food 1/24/2003

Between classes or on lunch break, get one of the lunch plates for around five dollars and walk away with a belly full of some damn good food. The menu is pretty expansive, and pretty reasonable. The service is hyperfast around lunchtime, so if you're in Stadium Village and need a quick meal, stop in. more

good seafood! 1/13/2003

When I want a predictable menu of coastal chinese dishes, I head for the Wok. I also went to college at the U, and ate a whole lot of the more mundane plates, as well. Recently, I had the lightest, fluffiest sea scallops on a light sauce - best scallops I ever had. I bring my Mom here, even if it is a little dirty looking. Pros: seafood, price Cons: parking is tight more

Awsome wonton soup 1/6/2003

They have the best wonton soup in the whole world at night only, but it's so worth the drive. I crave it all the time, and it gets busy around that time, great thing is they are also open later too. Pros: great food, great price, great service Cons: crowded/small place, parking, location more

Great College Eatery! 11/16/2002

A great restaurant. Cheap prices and fast, respectable service are major attractants to the University of Minnesota's best asian eatery. For a little spice try the Jumbo Gai Ding, a personal favorite. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Crowded, parking more

Fun Times at the Wok 11/9/2002

If you're daring, the menu is HUGE...but for someone like me who likes the classic dishes, most are good. The fried rice leaves a little to be desired but the sesame chicken is fabulous! When my boyfriend comes to visit me for the weekend, we always eat at the Wok first thing Friday night--it's a great place to talk, eat, and have a good time. Pros: Great selection Cons: Poor service, Very small tables more

yummmmy 11/9/2002

Excellent chinese seafood - been a local fixture since mid-70's Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Neat location Cons: Parking, bathrooms (scary), occasional lines more

Afordable 11/9/2002

This collage instetution is one you will come back to when you are trying to pinch pennies. the atmosphere is lively and fun. Grreat date place. The food is greesey but not harsh. Not gormet for that try Shuang Cheng a few blocks away. Pros: quick, cheep, fun Cons: greesy, crouded, parking more

The real Mccoy 11/8/2002

If you want to try REAL Chinese food, try the Village Wok. What it lacks in ambience and high prices, it more than makes up for in delicious, authentic chinese food! more

can you SAY Lucky Dragon 10/5/2002

The Village Wok is incredibly over-rated. Their bad chinese food gets raving reviews simply due its proximity to hundreds of chinese-craving college students. Pros: close to campus Cons: expensive, little variety, bad chinese more

Best late night eatery in MSP 9/24/2002

One of the best places to eat after 9pm in the Twin Cities. Their cheap noodle selections, which kick in after 9pm, are inexpensive and delicious. Pros: Great selections, cheap, esp. after 9pm, Great noodles Cons: Noisy, service spotty more

good, cheap and fast 8/23/2002

Yeah, it is kinda dirty looking. But the food is good, prices cheap and service is fast! If you like the college crowd, hang here. Pros: good food, fast service, cheap prices Cons: parking more

EEEWwww.. dont' eat there. 8/9/2002

Ok.. it gets busy and packed late at night cause it's open so late for students. However, i wouldn't recommend it. The food sucks. BUT, if you want some authentic food, this is the place that has a menu that represents that. However, the chef isn't the same as 10+ years ago. They've remodeled so it looks nicer, but it feels kind of dirty there. If you don't mind dirty for hopping..go at night. Pros: authentic, busy Cons: dirty more

Best Place for the Late Night Eatery 8/8/2002

As the sign in front so proudly displays Village Wok is the ""Best Place for the Late Night Eatery."" It is true, it is the best late night food available in the University of Minnesota area. As a freshman living in the dorms I frequented the restaurant often, usually sticking with the $5.25 meals that include the best Hot and Sour Soup on the planet. Sometimes I have dove into the other parts of the menus and I have never ordered something that I did not like. For starters try the beef in oyster sauce, but the more daring should try the best Duck in town. more

NOt the best 7/29/2002

One word... greasy. Chicken is always my favorite...and they use the same battered chicken for most of their dishes. If you are on the U of M campus, I would head to hong kong noodle or even the peking garden before hitting the village wok. You either hate it or like it... thats all I can say. If nothing else is open, it satifies a craving, but I wouldn't go there if there were other options. more
