Cannot cook a medium well steak. 1/15/2011

We have been to The Village Draft House almost every weekend for several months. The restaurant can cook a well done steak with no problem, but the cannot cook a medium well steak. It has been bloody every time they have brought it to the table. They bring side items they we said we did not want, that we subbed out for different sides(that get thrown away). By the time my steak comes back my family is through eating and the steak is tough from being re-cooked. They try and up charge u for items that u sub out by choosing to give u more of the items than what u ask for. The General Manager came to our table about 2 months ago regarding this and totally humiliated and embarrassed us to the point we did not want to ever go back. I called and asked to have the owner give me a call. He apologized, spoke to the General Manager who admitted treating us badly. This Manager was suppose to call and apologize but never did. So we went back last night and not only was my steak bloody again, but we were treated rudely by our waitress and this had never happened before. My steak was brought back to the table charred and well done. I asked ""how can u guys not cook a medium well done steak, she didn't respond. i asked for the check and was being charged in full for my steak. Out of all of the times i have had problems there i have never asked for anything discounted or free, but this was too much. The waitress basically said i would have to talk to the manager about the problem, meaning she wasn't going to. I paid and left in frustration. As far as i am concerned-We are done. I guess Raleigh is so big they won't miss our $60.00 a week that we spend in their restaurant. more

Great everything 8/15/2010

This is a great place to relax and have a couple beers with a great selection! It's especially relaxing hanging out on the patio (which is dog friendly!). The food is also really great for sandwiches and burgers! I have gotten the RBC Grill for years and recently they took it off the menu, but I can still get it! They also make an enjoyable Key Lime Pie. Service is also really pleasant and relaxed. more

great beer selection 1/12/2010

I don't know of anyplace else around here with a better beer selection. The taps run from one end of the bar to the other, and its a pretty long bar. They usually get some good seasonal brews. I'm a fan of the burgers (bacon and cheese) and the fish and chips. Both are consistantly really good. Pros: lots of beer, good food Cons: parking can be a pain more

GREAT FOOD, DRINKS, & SERVICE 12/9/2009

I have been going here for years. I will give you that they are not perfect all the time but they are darn close and what restaurant is perfect all the time? Everytime I have been there for about the last year they have got it all together. I have not been disappointed. They have great outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The food is great and I have yet to try a single thing I did not like. They have 99 beers on draft plus bottles and a friendly staff. The service is on time and the food is always done right. If you have not tried this place, you definitely need to give them a try! Pros: menu, food, staff, location more

Food sliding downhill... fast! 8/16/2008

I've been going to this neighborhood joint for quite some time, and although the service and drinks (beer, wine, etc.) are holding up pretty well, the food has taken a nose dive. Last night I was with my sister, her husband, and their 8-yr. old, and while the kid enjoyed her chicken fingers, the rest of the meal was horrible. He had a reuben, which he described as average (OK, he is the director of sales for a major Raleigh hotel, but still), she had a crabcake sandwich and said the cakes were more bread than crab, and I had the highly touted meatloaf platter with green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were canned, squishy school lunch beans, the potatoes were flavorless and cold, and the meatloaf was Spam wannabe. Very horrible. The one redeeming feature was that the service was good and fast, and as always, the drinks were good. Pros: Great beer selection, decent service, nice outside seating Cons: Food. Ick. more

Terrible service 5/6/2008

I've had some great times at the Village Draft House but my last two experiences were terrible. The waitstaff paid no attention to some reasonable but specific requests and did not seem to mind delivering food that was very much below expectation. My main compaint is their arrogance and failure to treat a customer who was trying to be polite with respect. I do not expect fine dining but do expect the waitstaff to pay attention to simple requests. They seemed to be terribly bothered by the notion that a patron might not be satisified with an order. Until I hear that the quality of service has improved I'll find another place to enjoy some time out to relax. Fortunately, this place has competition. more

great beer, great service, great place to chill 11/3/2007

I absolutely love the village draft house! I have been a ""regular"" for a while now. I like what they did when they expanded. They have 80-100 drafts now and the non-smoking section is great when I bring my family. I hate when I see the bad reviews, although I may be biased becuase I used to work at a bar/restaurant. The village draft house is not a fast food joint or a coat and tie restaurant. That really should be taken into consideration when you visit their establishment. I think that they do their best to suit everyones needs, but if you only have a half hour lunch break, this isn't the place unless you get take-out. The bartenders/waitresses are super friendly, and know my family and I by name, and even what we like to eat. We dine or drink here 3-4 times a week! Pros: burgers, beer, service more

my 2 cents 10/3/2007

I've been at NC State now for 3 years, and the Village Draft House has been my main place to go with my parents and friends. This year they surprised us with a new side and a redone bar with a whole lot more beers. I miss how the bar used to be a little to be honest. Was more in-between a bar and a restaurant. Kinda unique I guess. Pros: Lots of beer, good food and atmosphere for the money. Lots of people always Cons: Pasta items can be bland. rarely get a bad wait person more

Looking For Good Bar Service? Don't Come Here! 9/27/2007

I've heard about the good beer selection, which was very true, but the horrible service I received to get my beers, was not at all worth it. The bar was not even full, but all the bartenders were huddled in the corner talking and completely ignoring me and my friends. When we got the attention of one of them, they acted bothered when we asked for more drinks. I love having a variety of beers, but I'd rather go to a bar with good bartenders and drink cheap domestics all day! Pros: variety of beers Cons: horrible bartenders more

Disappointed 9/16/2007

I hate to say it, but after being really excited to try this place, I was let down. We arrived around 7pm on a sunday night and waited for a while just to SEE the hostess, let alone get seated. We liked that we got a booth and the nice TVs showing football, but the good stuff ended there. My ""homemade sundried tomato alfredo"" pasta w/chicken was luke-warm and tasted average -- like something i could have heated up at home. My boyfriend's corned beef sandwich had too much fat on it, and the fries could have been from arbys. Pros: TVs, outdoor seating, beer list Cons: food not worth the $, apathetic staff more

Very busy on weekends, but I take that as a great sign! 8/23/2007

I am suprised that anyone has had a bad experience at Village Draft House. I am a frequent diner at this establishment and I love the variety of the menu and the food is always great. The service is exceptional and even when they are very busy you are checked upon by everyone on the floor. The managers are very friendly and make the restaurant a neighborhood place to visit. The beer selection is phenomenal and for microbrews the prices are outstanding. Draft Houses cannot be held to the same standards as four or five star restaurants, sometimes I think people forget that, and others are looking for free food or to be pampered. Pros: Great location, service, and beer and menu selection Cons: can get very busy, sometimes the bar is smoky more

Fantastic burgers 2/14/2007

We frequent the Village Draft House after Church on Sundays. The burgers are always fantastic and I never get tired of eating them. They have probably 15 - 20 different burgers to choose from and I haven't had a bad one yet. Pros: Fantastic food. Everything was fantastic. Cons: Nothing. more

Good bar, bad food. 11/29/2006

Cameron Village is a nice area so I was surprised when we walked in to a typical ""bar"". There were about a dozen TVs, all but one on sports. My husband was thrilled that they have trivia, but no one was playing. We were promptly greeted by a nice waitress. She brought us our drinks and food quickly. I ordered spinach artichoke dip...yuck. It was watery and very bland. My husband had the chili and a Caesar salad which were average. It wasn't that smokey, but it was a Tuesday night and the bar was barely half full. I can see Village Draft House as a good spot for happy hour or drinks, but eat before you go! Pros: Good location, lots of TVs, fun bar atmosphere Cons: Food was average more

nice atmosphere 7/16/2006

A wide variety of people frequent the Draft House. Try the pickle chips if you go - they're addictive. $3 wings on Sundays. The service is pretty good - all the waitresses are friendly. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but when you're with a bunch of friends and laughing, who cares? Pros: outdoor seating area more

The Best Choice 4/9/2006

I have been to the Village Draft House once, and will certainly be going again. The food is wonderful, the waiter was very friendly and helpful, and there were absolutely no problems. I highly recommend this-- definitely come to this rather than a TGI Friday's or another chain. Pros: Wonderful food, Good service, Excellent decor Cons: A little smoky, Nothing else more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE 3/20/2005

I just had lunch at Village Draft House. I've been there several times before with an average experience, but today was TERRIBLE. We arrived and were seated at 1:10 p.m. We were not able to place our order until 1:20 and we did not get our food until 1:40. Our server spent more time talking to friends and co-workers than she did waiting on us. She didn't bring us our food. Another server did. She never came and checked on us to see if everything was okay. We had to ask other servers for a box for leftovers and to take our payment. In addition, we were brought the wrong dressing with our stuffed mushrooms and the lettuce in my salad was OLD and should have been thrown away instead of served. I hope the owner or manager reads this review and has a talk with the servers. Cons: poor service, smoky smell, poor food quality more
