Foods are delicious and great staff with friendly services. Nice, and clean environment where family can come and enjoy dinner.

Diner BEWARE 10/12/2011

We will never eat here again! The food was mediocre, to say the least. It is overpriced for the lack of flavor. To add insult to injury, they screwed up the check and charged my card numerous times. Now I have to go through time consuming calls to my credit card company to make sure that the charges get reversed. Next time, we'll go to Van Loc or Mai's!! more

I love this place! 1/14/2010

I don't understand the negative reviews at all. This place has a HUGE selection, but I must say their vermicelli dishes do not disappoint. I think most of the flavor comments must be from people who are used to over-sauced American-style chinese food.\r \r As far as the price is concerned, they are incredibly well priced. If you are looking for $2 asian take-out from a dive, then this is not the place for you; but for $20 I can get a full dinner plus a glass of wine---not many places in this area can boast that kind of value.\r \r This place is also great for lunch since the service is super quick, even when they are full to capacity. Pros: Vermicelli dishes, service, price, atmosphere, quick lunch more

Great Ambiance.....Terrible Food 10/11/2009

Even though this is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house, I refuse to eat here. It's overpriced, not authentic, and doesn't taste good. I don't know how else to put it.... Pros: Beautiful Restaurant Cons: Not Authentic, nor is it prepared well. more

Fair Pho 7/15/2009

Service was great. Waiter was very nice and attentive (wish I could remeber his name and give him props). Restaurant was very busy (Friday lunch rush). Pho soup w/seafood was good, but not great. At $8 a bowl, I would not order again. I didn't order anything else. - My co-worker ordered the Tso Chicken, and she liked it. Pros: Good service, awesome waiter Cons: a little pricey for o.k. soup more

Skip this place... 5/24/2009

We ate at the bar - perhaps a mistake - but were recommended (for spicier chicken dishes) the Kung Pao and the Garlic Chicken. Aside from the fact that their ""spicy"" came only with the bottled hot red sauce we added, the actual dishes were almost identical both in taste and blandness. I would not recommend. Pros: Decent atmosphere Cons: The blandest Vietnamese food I have ever had more

Mmm Mmm Good 2/13/2009

I love this retaurant! Everytime my boyfriend and I go, we don't have to wait to get seated. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. It seems like only seconds before they bring out your order and it's hot and delicious. I Love the orange chicken and they give you lots of rice. Their drinks are strong. Reasonable prices. Pros: Good Food, Fast service Cons: n/a more

Good food, watch your wallet though 1/25/2009

I have enjoyed Vietopia numerous times over the past few months, but I will not be returning. I ate at the resaturant with a friend, and we split the check. My bill was less than his, but the waiter put my total on his card and vice versa. To fix the problem, we put all of the tip on his credit card. I recently balanced my checkbook and noticed that the waiter helped himself to a $5 tip at my expense. Small amount, but speaks volumes about the character of a person. Pros: Fast and convenient Cons: Slimy waiters more

Overall good meal 2/24/2008

The food here was great. We had good appetizers. For our entrees, we got ginger beef and a shrimp dish, both of which were good. Decent martinis also. Overall, a very good experience, with good service. more

One of the best food in West Univeristy area. 8/30/2007

Amazing ""flash fried"" tofu! 6/28/2007

This is one of our favorite places nowadays. Even if you are not a big tofu eater, their Flash Fried tofu is spectacular. The tofu is marinated in a soy sauce type concoction and then quickly fried. It is not greasy and comes on a bed of salad-type greens. We have also enjoyed their curries and other dishes. The atmosphere is cool and pleasant on a hot Houston day. Service is pleasant and attentive.\r \r The only word of caution is to make sure you are seated in a place that works for you. Vietopia tends to attract Asian families with a lot of noisy children and the staff is loathe to ask the parents to ask their children to behave. We know because we have endured this more than once. If noise is an issue, just ask to be seated away from them.\r \r Pros: Great tofu dishes, curries, pleasant service Cons: Families with noisy children are frequent patrons in the early dinner hours more

Maggie: 0; Vietopia: -1; Whataburger: 1 4/17/2007

I've been to Vietopia many times. I've visited this restaurant since it opened, with large groups, on dates, and as a family. But tonight was special. My husband and I decided to go to Vietopia tonight instead of cook. We were looking forward to good food and reliable service. We were seated less than 2 minutes after arriving. We knew we were in for a... unique experience when our waiter didn't take our drink orders until 5-10 minutes after being seated. The drinks arrived and we ordered. We indicated that we wanted a bowl of steamed rice fairly quickly to appease our 3-year-old, and we got it pretty fast. We got our appetizer about 15 minutes after we ordered it. Then, suddenly, the steady flow of food and service stopped. Forty minutes after we ordered (no joke; we've got a 3-year-old, we're always watching the clock), my *husband's* food arrived. The waiter apologized for the delay on his food and said that my food would be out shortly. I then sat for the next 20 minutes watching my husband eat and other diners receive their orders while I received periodic apologies from our waiter. Finally, an hour after we ordered, I waved the waiter over and cancelled my meal--my husband was done eating and my toddler's patience was waning. NOT IMPRESSED AM I. I wound up eating at Whataburger on our way home (Justaburger with cheese and an order of onion rings; not chicken curry, but I was starved). I'm stunned that Vietopia would run its kitchen in such a manner. If my husband's order was delivered to our table, then my order (Coconut Chicken Curry) should have been right behind it. Watching other diners get their food while my husband and son ate--and then waited--was NOT FUN. We won't be going back for a while. I'm extremely disappointed. Pros: Good food, pleasant atmosphere Cons: Where's the expediter in the kitchen? Will I ever get my curry? more

Great Curry 11/17/2006

My husband and I do dinner backwards at this place. We start with the expresso ice cream pie to make sure we have room for it because it is awesome. Then we have the asian coconut curry chicken and finish it off with egg rolls. The service is always top notch. It is a very nice place for special occassions. Pros: Expresso ice cream pie, service more

good eatin' 1/12/2005

this place might not be the most authentic vietnamese food, but the ambience is wonderfully set. the food, although not authentic, is still delicious. Their lunch menu is very reasonable and good. more

What a rip 11/10/2003

I don't know where they got the VIET from Vietopia from, because there was a not a whiff of authentic Vietnamese food in the place. I guess when my boyfriend and I walked in, the fact that I was the only Vietnamese patron present should have set off some alarm bells. The service was terrible--we saw our waiter three times, when he took the order, when he brought us the order (wrong -- onions when I'd asked for none -- I'm allergic) and when he brought us the bill. Everything is at least twice (some 3-4 times) as expensive as most other Vietnamese places (and you only get two mediocre spring rolls for the price of four at most places) and the food was tepid at best. I don't know what ""ambience"" the other reviewers are talking about--the place is in a grocery shopping center! Cons: bad food, bad service, ba more

Great place 8/17/2003

Vietopia is one of my favorite places to eat. Granted its not Marks but it is a great place for lunch or a light dinner before a movie. The staff is top notch. Check out the Garlic Chicken, Pork Spring Rolls, they have amazing dumplings and L22 on the Lunch Menu. The desserts look a little scarey for my taste. Pros: great food, great service Cons: parking at lunch, Not good for kids more

Excellent Food! 6/23/2003

This is an excellent place to eat for lunch or dinner. The service is great, the restaurant has wonderful ambience, and the food is delicious. Pros: atmosphere, extensive menu, great food more

Great Food & Ambience! 3/15/2003

I loved the decor of the restaurant but I disliked the food. It's very nouveau and just a tad overpriced for Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. But then again, the portions of the food have been much greater than some of the other Vietnamese places in Houston. I've never had bad service there, and the ambience has always been great but the great thing is they have a good selection for happy hour 4-7pm and great selection for lunch menu. The service there is very attentive! On the weekends, expect to wait 30-355 mins for a table. Great things to try: Vietnamese Crepe/Banh Xeo (one of the few Vietnamese establishments where they do make this dish authentic, very tasty and a great sized portion), Canh Chua/Hot & Sour Soup, and Bo Luc Lac/Flamed Boiled Filet Mignon. more

over priced 1/2/2003

I guess you are paying for the decorations not the food. It was O.K. There are much better places around town for vietnamese food. Pros: nice inside Cons: over priced, decent food more

Vietcrappia 9/21/2002

We went to this restaurant based on the decor, and were reminded why that is always a mistake. It's an elegant space with soaring ceilings and muted, tasteful French Indochina modernity, but there the charm ends. Our orders of tofu in spicy brown sauce and lemongrass chicken were lame, tame, and utterly without merit. Our advice is to stick to Milam Street if you want to find good Vietnamese (Mai's, Van Loc). Good happy hour and nice bar staff, though. Pros: atmosphere, happy hour, staff Cons: food, food, food more
