Fantastic Restaurant Right mix of food service ambiance 1/11/2008

Vert is one of my favorite restaurants, much better in my mind than places like Mastro's or Spago. Vert is no longer on the Wolfgang Puck restaurant list on his website, so I suppose he sold the place. Anyway, it's a shame that this classy restaurant with a fantastic view and terrific ambiance is in the middle of a mall which sends the wrong message. People would be flocking to this place if it was on a trendy street. There is nothing better than having dinner at Vert after a day at the mall, it's like a reward. The place is good enough to go to even if you're not shopping. The only thing is that in the evening it's a little too dark in the dining room. The service is always impeccable. I have never experienced a problem with seating, a rude host or a bad server, even when I go there laden with shopping bags. I have gone there with a large party or just two people and the service is prompt and professional. The food is fantastic from the huge steak for two, to the lamb to the salmon, which I love. It's excellent and uncomplicated unlike Spago. I think it's what Spago would be if they didn't do all the culinary experimenting. It tends to be French inspired with a mix of American as well. There is even a kid's menu with gourmet hamburgers and fries. The desserts are fantastic as well, with the tiramisu being my favorite. The portion for dessert is a bit small. There are a variety of starters from salads to the crab cake, to French onion soup which was not very good. The bread basket has a nice variety of Italian breadsticks and bread with marinara sauce, delicious. It is served with the Feta cheese topped with olive paste, which is one of the best things about the place. It's a great value for money with the average entree at less than $30. Overall it's chic and classy, and if you don't look out the window toward the ground floor you will easily forget that you are in a mall. Pros: Chic upscale look, Fantastic Food, Professional Service, not crowded Cons: in the mall, small portions of desserts more

Best overall restaurant experience 12/7/2007

If you have not been to Wolfgang Pucks new Restaurant you HAVE to try it. The service was great and the overall experience i had while I was there was outstanding. I would have to tell everyone to try to the different pizza or the grilled tuna, both are incredible. An absolute must if you are in the area. more

Great food, better dessert! 8/26/2007

Last Wednesday, we went to Vert prior to perusing Duty Free and attending the Bowl to catch the legendary Dave Brubeck. I'm happy to say that our dinner was delightful. Although I felt that my spring vegetable soup was a bit odd (a little too many garbanzo beans), my shrimp pasta entree and gelato dessert made up for it ten folds. (HAVE THE GELATO!!! It's so beautiful, you don't want to eat it. But, once you break into the watermelon shaved ice, there's no turning back. It's just pure YUMmy fun.) Drinks at this venue are also delightful. I've been here before attending a movie at the El Capitan and the staff was quick to serve their tapa-esque appetizers that just fills the right spot. more

I went to Vert because of the 2007 Pellegrino Dine Out USA fundraiser. You get a 3 course prix-fix menu for $35, which actually is about the same amount of money you would pay for it you chose the same items from the regular menu. I just wanted to try it since you get a free bottle of Pellegrino. I had a pasta and shrimp dish, and my boyfriend had the 1/2 chicken. My pasta was tasty, but I thought that I would get more pieces of shrimp. I like the free bread and cheese spread. The bread is just like those served at Spago's. Other than the slow service in the beginning due to a large party backing up the kitchen, I would say the service was pretty good. The brought us the menu and drinks promptly, and right after our salads were taken away, we received the main course. The butter lettace salad was good! I don't usually like salad. Since the service was slow in the beginning (and they knew it), our waiter apologized and offered to get us a bottle of wine, which was really generous, however, my boyfriend and I just wanted our food. For dessert, I chose tiramisu, as part of the prix-fix menu. It was very good compared to some other ones I've tried at restaurants. Overall, I would come back to try other dishes on the menu and maybe a cocktail. more

Bland 7/4/2007

The service was prompt and friendly. If you have to go, sit by the large window. You can watch tourists taking pictures of each other because the Hollywood sign can be seen from that spot. The food was incredibly bland. There is no joy in the food. First let me say that I did love the bread and cheese. But the house salad had no flavor. Then I had the seared ahi. It was just so bland and beige. Ahi should be red in the middle not beige. I actually would have preferred Wolfgang's prepared salads and frozen entrees at Gelsons. Pros: Great people watching. Cons: Food that is not special. more

The WORST service I'd EVER experienced! 3/2/2007

I didn't even get to the food because the waitor treated us coldly and rudely for no reason, and the wine we ordered was brought in a dirty glass with visible dust all over the glass. I will never go back to this establishment again, no matter how good the food is. more

I took my sister there as I heard good reviews about the food. Unfortunately, I only remember the horrible waitress. She was cold and rude for no reason. It was a week night and not busy at all. The escargots were bland which was disappointing. Pros: Location Cons: Service more

I wouldn't know Wolfgang Puck if he walked up and slapped me - so I can't make any clever comparisons to his other establishments and ventures. What I can do is relate that Vert is an elegant cullinary delight, with the perfect mix of decor, service and food. The staff are beyond knowledgeable and very accomodating to your questions and needs. The menu is European, but diverse - and the food of course is simply to die for. Perfect for a date, an evening out with friends, or a meal after a long day of shopping. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience and Parking. Cons: Stuck in the middle of Hollywood... more

The food was very good, great calamari, pizza and the desert is just GREAT. I loved the chocolate soufle. A nice casual place to dine, even on a saturday it wasn't crowded. The waiters were prompt and polite, we were seated right away, it was nice. Pros: chocolate soufle more

This is the perfect place for an upscale casual meal. It does suffer from a bad location - right in the Hollywood/Highland complex - which immediately stamps the restaurant as touristy. But I was plesantly surprised. Great seafood - I order the scallops and they were perfectly prepared. My friend ordered the pork chop - thick cut, very juicy. All the prices were very reasonable. If I'm in the area, I would definitely go here again. more

We ordered the Salmon, the Lamb Osso Buco, and the Pork Chop. I liked my salmon the best. It sits on top of a potato puree that is surrounded by an amazing sweet sauce. The salmon has almonds, which gave it a very interesting taste, while the puree and the sauce gave it a nice kick. I cleaned up the plate with a piece of bread because the sauce was so good! The lamb and the pork were heavier but the meats consistency was perfect and they seemed to have been marinated very well giving them a very sophisticated taste. This is not food for dieters but instead it is very healthy. The deserts were very good, especially the chocolate souflee with expresso gelato. We paid $130 plus tips for 3 people including a $30 bottle of white wine. Dishes ranged from $17 to $30. Pros: Deserts, Flavor, Service Cons: Limited Menu, Busy Location, Closed during Oscars more

I came here a couple times when it first opened and for the price I think this is a great place. If you have to take somebody out and dont think they are worth more than $50, this place is perfect. I left both times for around $60. I even saw Wolfgang there and he came over to introduce himself. He is the nicest, and probably the only, Austrian I have ever met. He didnt treat me as though I made $200 million less than him. I think it takes away from the ambiance being in the Hollywood & highland complex. Pros: Value, Food more

Ive just recently moved to California and i've been so eager to try any of Wolfgang's restaurants and this past weekend I had the chance to try Vert. I was surprised to have been seated for dinner on a Saturday night without any reservations. The ambiance was nice, very modern and hip. The service was up to par but the food, well, I wasnt exactly blow away. I had the almond crusted salmon and It was just "alright". My boyfriend had the pork chops and he too said it was okay. I was a little bummed because I was expected to be blow away. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. The bill was average. I guess you pay for the ambiance and the location. Great place to bring out of towners since its in Hollywood & Highland but go for the scenery, not the food. Pros: seated right away, service, location Cons: food was average more

Great meal? Go to Vert! 10/12/2003

Any expectations that I had going into Vert were exceeded by far. The service from the maitre'd to the wait staff, the hostess to the busboy was immaculate. No crazy hovering, but you definitely did not feel ignored. Now to the drinks. I recommend the Limonata (as the bartender to not make it too sweet) or the peach bellini. I could have drank my dinner, but we ordered food, too! I had the Prime NY "Steak Frites" with sauce Bernaise. It was perfectly prepared, and there is something special about steak with Bernaise. I also recommend the salmon. Delish. If you go on the day when the "Napoleon" is their dessert special of the day, don't miss it. It is a surprise!! This is a fantastic restaurant all around. Go TODAY!! Pros: Delectable food, Great Service more

When I first saw this place, it was just a few sheets of drywall. A year later, transformed into a restaurant with nice decor and soft lighting. Could this be the same place? It was! We were greeted and seated promptly. After being handed an "aluminum-like clipboard menu/wine list," we started off with the French Onion Soup one could easily share. Good choice, although a tad bit expensive for an appetizer. Main courses varied from wood-fire oven pizzas, burgers & steaks, to fish & pastas. Of course as with any Wolfgang Puck cuisine, the food was eccentric; however, the waiter was more than happy to explain the menu and alter it to our liking. Overall, great ambience, tasty food, fair prices, and extensive wine/bar list. My wife already wants to return for the French Onion Soup. I must agree with the other positive reviewers, Wolfgang has again outdone himself! Pros: Satisfying Portions, Friendly Staff, French Onion Soup more

If you are brave enough to enter the ultimate terror that is Hollywood and Highland then you have to take the time the seek refuge at Vert. The food is excellent and although the staff can be a little to snooty for a mall I believe the intention is right. I am not sure I if should even admit it but I have never been a big Wolfgang Puck fan but somehow this place works. The food is oustanding and the ambiance is chic but not uncomfortable. If you can make it past the parking garage then you deserve the good meal that awaits you at VERT. Pros: Good Service, Comfortable Setting Cons: Hollywood, and, Highland more

Puck in a mall is a disorder of epic culinary stature. Good reception; nice table; pushy waiter; odd tasting Caesar salad which my wife ordered. Perfunctory replacement of same. Way oversweet onion soup (too much sherry). Good veal chop. Garlic rapine - fun, but not diverse; great desserts; fine wine list. Not much, however, to make this a destination. I find this a great disappointment overall. Pros: profiteroles, apple tart, desserts Cons: radicchio/caesar, mall!, onion soup more
