Pozzi does not seem to like animals-dont go here 1/26/2011

I live very close to La Riv Vet. I do not like the treatment my pets get there. I work in rescue and often bring in emotionally damaged and abused dogs who are in foster. DVM Pozzi once told my 17 year old daughter that a dog should be euthenized becuase he was agressive. Well he did have know issues with having his head contained, due to very brutal abuse. He is fine now that he has rules and training but I think it was unprofessional to say anything to a child. I have a friend who went there that she told the same thing to-you dog is agressive and should be put down. I actually do not think she likes dogs. The staff can be rude and the wait times are terrible. I have gotten care from them on more than one occassion which was geared more toward depleting my finances than caring for my pet (for instance the 800+ dollars of necessary tests for a dog THAT MAY HAVE ingested some Ipsom Salts. Great vet clinic 3/2/2010

Had nothing but a wonderfully positive experience with Dr. Pazzi. Her front office staff welcomed me, my son and our dog with smiles and a "How are you?". When it came time for the vet to check out our dog, she was extremely professional, answered all my questions and treated me with respect. I don't understand some of the negative comments posted about Dr. Pazzi or her staff - they are completely false. more

Wish I'd forked over the money for a better doctor 4/22/2009

This place was terrible! The doctor was condescending and didn't take my dog's condition seriously at all and make a bigger deal out of the fact that she's a few pounds overweight than that she could hardly breath and her heart beats a mile a minute and could hardly sleep. I took her to another vet a couple weeks later and it turns out that my dog has a serious heart problem and needs a lot of help, medication, and maybe surgery. Waiting this long hasn't helped because the moron doctor's cavalier attitude to my dog's condition put me more at ease. I thought ""Well, god, if she's more concerned about my dog's weight than her heart then it can't be as bad as I'm thinking it is."" She had no idea what she was talking about! The other vet took one listen to her heart and was quite concerned. The woman at La Riviera was like ""Yeah, she's got a bit of a murmur, bit of an arrythmia, you might want an ECG sometime."" Avoid this place and go somewhere that actually care more about your pet and don't treat you like you're getting a tune up on your car rather than treating a member of your family. Great place to take a loved one. 12/24/2008

I have been going to La Riviera for about 9 years. They have taken care of my dog since he was a puppy and my cats since we moved into the neighborhood. Both cats recently passed on to the rainbow bridge - they were about 15 years old. My little boy is a 6 year old yorkie and he is quite spoiled and excitable and they are very patient with him. \r \r They are caring, compassionate, and always available. Usually easy to get a same day appointment. Everyone is fantastic - Drs, techs, and receptionists.\r \r I have to take special notice of Nicole who has been working with me on my baby's surgery. She has been sympathetic and empathetic and has walked me through everything explaining things clearly and giving me good advice. \r \r I would recommend this vet very highly. Prices are reasonable and good value - over the years I have taken my cats to a number of vets in Sacramento area. Make sure you let them know what you need and they will take care of you. And always remember kindness more

I USED TO LIKE THEM... 9/26/2008

I have been taking my cat to La Riviera Hospital for months to treat an ongoing urinary issue, the staff has always been very accommodating. The staff up front knew me as soon as \r I walk in...UNTIL RECENTLY! I came in today to purchase my regular food only to find an entirely new staff up front! They were extremely rude, both looked at me like I was intruding on their personal conversation. The receptionist were totally incompetent in figuring out what food I always get. Thankfully, one of the technicians came up from the back and knew exactly what I needed. I think Dr Fenske is great and the technicians are always very helpful but the new girls up front have really made me think twice about buying my cats food there or from petmeds.com more

I like them. 6/9/2008

I've been taking my chihuahua here since I got her, at the recommendation of a friend. I can always get an appointment, and the last 2 times my dog has needed an emergency visit (broke toenail & bee sting) I have been able to get in right away. The staff is helpful and they are very fair with pricing. I live about 15-20 miles away now but will continue to take her here as I have had nothing even close to a problem with this facility. Sometimes they may suggest tests/procedures you don't want, but if you simply tell them 'no, not this time' they will not push the issue. more

Would defenitely not recommend. 4/28/2008

I moved and needed to find a new vet for my great dane who was suffering from an ear injury. This facility was recommended by an online vet search (by location). I did receive an appointment right away, however the welcome staff was VERY rude both over the phone and in office. The vet who saw my dog was not helpful, offered no consolation as to the severity of the problem and had the nerve to ask ME to bandange my own dog's ear while she left the room. She left us alone with me struggling to maintain the bleeding for over ten minutes. They offered no suggestions as to what could expedite the healing process and charged me for a heartworm test ($75) that my dog didn't need. more

THIS HOSPITAL IS THE BEST!!! 2/13/2008

I recently had to take my dog to the vet. I chose La Riviera Animal Medical Center. I was thrilled to have a vet so close to my house. My experience was great, any questions i had, were answered. My dog had been diagnosed with a heart condition about 2 months ago,and i wanted a second opinion. The front office staff were very understanding and got me the next available appointment, which happened to be the same day. I was very satisfied with the staff and cant wait to tell my friends and family. more

Great Vet 11/16/2007

Dr. Fenske and the staff there are amazing. I have been going to La Riv for over ten years now. They make you feel like family. There are extremely attentive to you and your pets needs. They will answer all of your questions and you will recieve a follow up phone call to check on your pet's condition. I love them!! I have cats and Boston Terriers and they are in great health thanks to La Rivira AMC!! more

Rush job, unfriendly, left stitches in my dogs foot!!!! 8/19/2007

I have been trying to find a good vet after moving to Sac 3 years ago, so I decided to try la riviera animal hospital based on reviews. Boy was that a bad decision!! My dog had what appeared to be a foxtail in her foot that needed an operation. That all went fine, but after, when I went to get the stitches removed, they left 3 or so in! My dog's foot was not healing and she was chewing and making it worse, so they gave me a liquid steroid to decrease swelling. Well, I've been tending to her foot and trying to wipe it clean with peroxide, etc, and found 3 stitches that they left in which were poking at her foot and causing the problem!!!!In addition to this problem, the people that work there are generally inattentive, it's hard to get any questions in because they rush you so much, and they don't explain things at all. I won't be back!!!! more

This place is okay . . . 7/16/2007

Well I have taken my cats and dog here because it is so close to my house, but I must say that the receptionists are horribly rude. Not only to myself, but I have referred friends there because it is relatively inexpensive and they were rude to them too. They have always been good with my animals, just not good with people. more

Worst Experience Ever! 7/10/2007

I transferred to this vet from it's sister location Sunset Pet Center. It was the WORST experience and I would never recommend this place to anyone. First, the front office staff were so unprofessional. For example, it was a Saturday morning and someone apparently called to find out if they were open. The receptionist hangs up and says, ""No I'm just here cuz I'm bored!"" Well, not all business who answer the phone are open for public usage. Second, if you have a small dog, they don't have small dog scales nor do they have a tender touch. I hated myself for allowing them to shove a thermometer up my dogs behind and listen to him wail. He wailed even more getting routine shots. He shook the whole way home and was lethargic for 5 days so I went to the other place to have him looked at. Finally, they had no printer to print verification of his shot record. I think what was the icing on the cake, was the staff brought Chinese food in and sat it at the front desk. Dogs were naturally trying to get to it, and the staff had no clue! Don't even think about boarding your dog there. If you have, your dog deserved better. I'm back to Sunset regardless of the location. Pros: They were close Cons: That I used their services more

Great Animal Hospital 6/20/2006

I had to take my cat to this hospital because it had been in a fight with a cat outside and the wound he received was getting worse by the day. We called an made an appointment for that same day for 11am. We arrived at 10:50am and were not seen until 11:45am despite our appointment. The entire staff was very nice and the vet knew exactly what the problem was by just looking at the wound for a few seconds. The cat needed stitches and surgery to remove the dead skin around the wound; the cat would also be fixed at the same time per the vet's suggestion. We were quoted $230 for the entire visit and left the cat with the vet and were told to come and get him at 5pm. We came back to get him and everything went smoothly. The total bill was around $300 (more than they quoted), but that was still far less than I thought the visit would cost considering he needed to have surgery. Overall a really great animal hospital. more
