The view is fine, the service attentive, the food is, or was when I was there, truly inedible. Bitter tarmosalata, dry lambshanks, awful, awful eggplant. There were four of us...

amazing greek food and music 2/17/2010

Like the other reviewer said, live music and delicious Greek food! You can't go wrong with this place. They treat you like you're family who've come back home. more

Never again 10/9/2009

a group of 6 people of us had dinner last night at Ulysses in the Grove, we were extremely dissappointed with the quality and taste of food there...we had to return a couple of dishes like the Mousaka, it tasted nothing like the real Mousaka, and their meat, I don't know what kind they use, but you could not even cut it with a knife. Pros: Service Cons: Food more

Favorite place in the Farmers Market 1/16/2009

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Farmers Market. Their patio is very nice, with great people watching from the Grove next door. Service is very attentive and the food is much more upscale than most Greek restaurants in the city. Excellent spanokopita (best I have had) and very good moussaka and pastichio. Gyro sandwiches are par for the course, but served with both salad and garlic fries. The only bad meal I have ever had here was the steak sandwich (very tough). That aside, the best dish I have ordered is the Greek plate which gets you a bit of everything. I recommend coming for lunch as the menu prices are much more reasonable. Pros: Great upscale Greek food. Friendly service. Nice patio. Cons: Dinner can be expensive. Bad steak sandwich. more

OK place but food needs better seasoning. 12/20/2008

During my visit to Los Angeles, I read several reviews before deciding to go eat at Ulysses Voyage. I was mainly looking for a greek restaurant with live music since I love Greek music. The reviews I had read didn't rave much about the quality of the food, but I thought I give it a try anyway, if not for the food, perhaps to enjoy the music. The restaurant is divided into two rooms, unfortunately for us, we got seated in the back room. The musicians were in the front. We could bearly hear them. I would suggest they hood up their amplifier to the speakers they aready have in both rooms. My husband ordered the chicken gyro and I, the roast leg of lamb. Honestly, I have had much better gyros at any small joint at a mall food court. The chicken had no taste, very bland. The potatoes deffinitely need some salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil and perhaps a hint of oregano. (your get the idea.) The lamb, very dry. It seemed as if they overcooked it. The sauce or juice was tasty but the meat, forget about it, for $25 a plate deffinitely not worth it. I could do a much better job cooking this meal and I'm not greek. The only two things we loved was the appetizer we ordered "Saganaki" and the Baklava we ordered for dessert. OH, by the way the coffee was delicious. Pros: Server was great. Good place for coffee and dessert Cons: They have a $15 minimum so you'd have to order 2 desserts. more

Great food and atmosphere! 6/20/2008

Our family has been coming to Ulysses for over a year. We absolutely love the food, the people that work so hard there and the wonderful musicians. They always treat us so well. Everything on the menu is excellent. We've had parties here and introduced friends to Ulysses that keep coming back too. It's just a great place. Make sure to make reservations for dinner Fridays and Saturdays - it's a very popular place in the Grove. more

Delectable appetizers 5/15/2008

I got invited to this Greek restaurant to celebrate belated my birthday. A cozy atmosphere was created by a fireplace and a laid-back vibrant crowd. I savored the appetizers a lot. They came with a delicious warm pita bread and a yogurt and avocado dipping sauce. We ate at the bar. The tenders were very attentive, friendly and chatty. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: tables a little too close to each other more

Good food, friendly service 4/9/2008

My wife and I eat at Ulysses about once a week and just love it. Food is always good, and I?ve tried just about everything on the menu. Every server we have had so far has been efficient, and very pleasant. Even the bus boys are awesome, and I never have to ask for more water or bread. Everyone just seems happy, which makes us feel right at home. Our favorites are the white fish and the lamb gyro, but you can?t go wrong with anything on the menu. Pros: Food, service more

One of my favorite restaurants 3/20/2008

I love this place! On Sat nights there is live greek music to listen to on the patio. My favorite dish is the Chilean sea bass, with the horakoti salad and the flaming cheese. This place is pricey but worth every penny! more

Please don't bring your Family!!! 12/12/2007

My family & I always dine out every Fridays & Saturdays. We've been to countless Greek restaurants of all types and sizes locally and out of town. For the first time, we went to try out Ulysses Voyage at the Farmers Market. It was me, my wife, our 2 kids and my in-laws (4 adults & 2 kids). The moment we got to our table, our waiter un-welcomed us by telling us that they will charge us $14 for bringing in a slice of pizza for our 2 year old boy. He then followed it up by telling us that Ulysses has a $14.00 minimum order per person without exemption..including our 10 month old daughter! Each person in the table has to order food whether you like it or not ? and must be at least worth $14. They have no place for our kids' strollers. Tables and Chairs are placed very close, It seems the Ulysses used up every space in the room so they can sit as many people as they can to recover the high cost of rent. But Customers end up elbow to elbow. Claustrophobics beware! We then over heard the couple next to us complaining that their waiter seems to want them to leave ASAP so Ulysses can accommodate more customers. At that point, we were just so disgusted that we asked our waiter to pack our food to go. Our night was ruined. On top of the bad service we experienced, Ulysses had the nerve to charge us 18% gratuity because there were 6 of us...Yes, they counted our kids...a 2 year old and a 10 year old who they did not ever served. I paid $ 98 for food for 4. By the way, the food is nothing great. Anyone can get much better food with great service for half the price at other restaurants inside the Farmers market. We?ve dined at exclusive restaurants but we?ve never been treated so badly the way Ulysses treated us. Ulysses is a family owned restaurant but not a family friendly restaurant. We will never eat at Ulysses again. Pros: Parking Cons: Service more

Like Being in Greece... 11/30/2007

I've only recently become a fan of Mediterranean and Greek cuisine, but I think Ulysses Voyage is some of the best I--a very picky eater--have tasted. I get the chicken kabobs. The portion is really big and you get what you pay for. It's juicy and it falls off the skewer; you don't have to pry it off with the jaws of life, which makes for messy and--when it ends up flying across the room--dangerous eating. Food aside, they usually have live music playing on the patio. Despite that, I prefer to sit inside. It's quaint, homey-cozy and there is a fireplace. You feel like you're on vacation. I felt that way at least (I've been to Greece twice). The servers are really friendly. For nice, casual, un-fast food at The Grove, this is the ticket. more

One word: AMAZING 5/9/2007

This has turned out to be my all time favorite restaurant. After going for the first time, I couldn't wait to take all of my other friends. Everything on your plate is delicious..right down to the asparagus. Ask for bread with feta spread before your meal. The musicians and staff are fun and friendly. Pros: music, food more

THE BEST GREEK FOOD 4/3/2007

I used to go to Mama Voula's on the west-side of town even though I live in Hollywood. When I saw Mama Voula's closed and read a note saying they have a sister restaurant I was thrilled. We ate at Ulysses on a Monday night. Lo and behold the guy from Mama Voula's is working the front. That made my whole party happy to begin with. The food is top shelf as is the service. I had the Lamb Gyro and I have to tell you I felt like I was back at Mama's. On the special was Baked Ling Cod served with a garlic dip, it was so good I wanted another one. I have found my new Greek place. more

chilean sea bass is to DIE for! 2/14/2007

chilean sea bass and the spanakopita are AMAZING. seriously this fish melts in your mouth and is cooked perfectly!!!!! get a bottle of the house red (yes even with fish) and you will die happy Pros: amazing food, great service Cons: price more

Cozy with a warm atmosphere 12/8/2006

Certainly not as high-end as some local Greek places, but the food is solid and reasonably priced. I was a little surprised that despite that the canopy read "meze," there were no real meze platters to speak of on the menu. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the trio of salads that I supped on, though the dolmas were a bit tough. I love the atmosphere at this place, however, with a fireplace inside and the twinkling lights of the Grove and the Farmer's Market surrounding the patio. The wandering minstral guitarist was a lovely addition to the evening and the service was highly attentive. Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: parking can be hard in the holiday season and be sure to park in the FM lot, not the Grove more

I've had better... 11/21/2006

...at strip malls. The food was overpriced and mediocre. The atmosphere, however, was very intimate and cute. If it's your first time having greek food, go somewhere else that's rated higher because you wouldn't want this restaurant to be your first greek experience. Pros: Cute restaurant, convenient to shop afterwards Cons: Mediocre food and high prices more

Great Greek at the Touristy Farmer's Market! 11/10/2006

Delicious and authentic greek fare. Love their fish specials, dolmades and avgolomeno soup. The fresh Greek salad is large enough to share and is flavorful. If you loved Mama Voula's [RIP] on the west side, you'll love this more upscale sister restaurant and their live entertainment in the outdoor patio. People watching is great too. Pros: Warm staff Cons: Can be a wait more
