Overrated. 4/25/2008

Most of the soup just tastes like water. The chicken is bland, and dry. This place is way Overrated and it smells dirty, and is dirty. Service is ok, but not worth it. Overall, I feel yucky when I go here. Pros: Late night dining, inexpensive. Cons: No taste, dirty. more

really good food for a limited wallet 12/3/2007

love the food. the coconut milk chicken soup is the best. the waitresses are really nice (considering when you go to other places they are usually rude). its a great place to go after a night of dancing or drinking. the prices are considerable. they dont take a long while to get your food. my friends have been there at least 10 times in a month. Pros: great prices Cons: parking more

okay place, but not the greatest 11/11/2007

I don't understand why this place has such high praise. I went there because of the reviews and I was disappointed. It was okay, but not the greatest Thai food. I'd say give it a try, but don't expect anything great. It's good for what it is, which is a small place that's open late at night when there aren't many options. \r \r Bottom line: mediocre place to go to when you want something quick and cheap Pros: fast, cheap Cons: no parking more

best Thai 6/3/2007

I and my friends have been going back this place more than 30 times in this 3 years. \r Food is the best, anything you order, it won't go wrong. never been disappointed, stuffs are nice.\r We try other restaurants in Thai town, but always end up coming back to Torung. Food is addictive. \r All the food comes out so quick. We never waited more than 7min. If you are hungry and want to eat good food right away, this is a good place. You can of course stay and chill there for a while. They don't rush you out.\r If you love Thai food, you should try. more

Great Thai food! 10/9/2006

There are so many Thai restaurants to chose from, but Torung is one of a handful that never disappoints. The service can be a little slow/ surly, but nothing that would prevent me from going there. The Tom-Ka-Kai is the best of any I have tried, and the Pad-see-ewe is great too, but I've never had a bad meal here. more

Yummy Late Night Spot 10/6/2006

The chicken satay is my favorite! Try the Tom Yum soup (spicy chicken soup) it has a strong lemon taste and spicy kick. I got sick the first time I ate there but I have been back to Torung for probably 25+ dinners and have been fine. Great Thai food in a diner-style atmosphere. more

Tourung is the best Thai place in LA! 8/20/2006

I live in Thai Town so I've had my pick of the litter. I've even been to the west LA joints like Tuk Tuk and some other places that I don't remember. Tourung has really good prices. It costs less than $6 to get a shrimp meal. The shrimp is good too, and deveined. The food is all really good. The pad see ew is probably my favorite, along with the mint leaf shrimp.\r The waitresses are all super nice and the food might as well be fast food, unless they are super busy and then it's just pretty fast.\r Pros: great food, service, fast Cons: parking sometimes more

those were the days..... 2/20/2006

Fabulous food--especially for chili heads--the kitchen will comply with anything you desire--the nicest people. we used to go there after the Cat and Fiddle closed--with a bottle of wine, of course. Love the exotic Fish tank:! An old joke among my close friends. Great, comfortable fun very late at night, very warm staff, with great memories and corkscrews!!! Pros: food, staff, aquarium Cons: dicey neighborhood more

Best Thai in Town! 12/21/2004

Torung is absolutely the BEST Thai place in town. Thier hours are great, food in fabulous, and service is one of a kind. I end up eating there at least once a week, usually more often. Perfect place to wind down after a night on the town. Pros: Great Food, Wonderful Service, Cheap prices Cons: , wish it was open 24/7 more

Dinner at 3:30 am! 10/21/2004

Torung is one of the original Thai joint in Hollywood Blvd. As far as I can remember, me and my friends used to come here back in the mid eighties after hours at 2-3 am in the mornings. Well, I still patron here and recently introduced this place to my girlfriend and she absolutely loves it. Not your usual Thai, they have some of the rarest items on the menu, like ""Sauteed Vegatables"" and ""Congee"" and the two must go together if you order, a staple only found in traditional Cantonese restaurants. They have the most awesome ""Shrimp Tum Yum"" soup served under fire. The ""Crab Curry"" with rice on the side is my usual. Pros: Food, Value, Open Lates more

the best thai, the best buck 5/19/2004

Anything you want, you got it, and for the right price. The fresh rolls are to die for and the coconut surry soup comes out flaming! it's the best thai in town more

Food like mom's - almost... 9/4/2003

My background being southeast asian, I often get a craving for foods that come from that part of the world. I was introduced to Torung some 6 odd years ago - and have been going there ever since. The service is fast and friendly - needless to say, the waitresses know me at a glance as I used to go there quite frequently... and the food - well, I couldn't say enough good about the fare. Favorites range from the Tom Yum Gung to the Green Chicken Gurry -- Dry Roast Duck Noodles.. and the list goes on. Don't forget to get a Thai Iced Tea or Coffee... and be prepared for a nice surprise when the bill arrives - it always seems to be less than I have always expected. more

Tough to beat for a casual eat 7/17/2003

Apologies for the unintentional rhyming there... Anyway, what's left to say about Torung? Nice central location for almost anyone. The decor is awful, the food is quite good. Spiciness lovers swear by the Red Pepper Beef Curry, and I like the duck fried rice, basil beef, and squid dishes. The soups with the flaming kerosene are spicy and tangy; very flavorful menu all 'round. I have no idea if it's authentic, but we recently celebrated a birthday dinner there, and had more food than we could shake a stick at for $12 a head. Excellent value, above average food, and a good central location. Call it everyone's neighborhood ethnic choice. The booths are spacious, but don't bring a crowd larger than 6. Pros: Location, Value, Food Cons: Eye-searing decor, No liquor more

What's Good? Everything! 2/24/2003

It's tough to make a mistake here. From the Duck Noodles, to the Pad Kee Mow, which is not on the menu, but if you ask, they'll make it. The Pork Noodle soup has a hint of lemongrass is really great. Ask them to mix in some duck and shrimp and you've got a whole meal. The curries are to die for. Pros: Roomy, fast service, Huge selection Cons: Parking, No Afternoons more

Excellent - for take-out 2/23/2003

Truly great Thai -- very inexpensive, very good food. Take-out is the way to go though -- the ambience is not terrific and the overall dining experience is not one where you will want to linger over your courses -- however, again, the food is great and for take-out, this place can't be beat. more
