Good food, snobby and unfriendly service 10/16/2009

The food is good, the omelettes are small but at least real eggs...and the toast is yummy per the name. However, we are amazed at how rude a few of the hosts there can be (in particular one guy and one woman -- the others are great). We were regulars going here all the time, until one day we arrived 10 minutes before closing to be greeted aggressively and told it was closed. We asked nicely if we could order quickly and leave quickly, and they did us ""the big favor"" of allowing us to sit without even a smile or anything except clear anger that we might keep this guy a bit later at his job. We tried again, and he is the same gruff fellow who makes customers feel bad about spending their money here. Shame as the food is good but the service doesn't match. Pros: We like the brunch BUT.... Cons: The host (the guy) is downright rude more

Pancakes Disappointing 3/1/2009

We made a special trip of about 30 miles to go to this highly rated breakfast joint to try the pancakes. The name should have been a give away that pancakes weren't their thing, but they were rated highly on the pancake circuit so we went. Small shop, cute inside. Good coffee and good service. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes and they looked beautiful, light and fluffy. They had no taste unto themselves though. We used 7 butters each and used the cold store-type syrup they provided us and each ate 1/2 the order. I did see folks getting french toast that looked phenomenal, so I recommend you try that instead, hence the name ""Toast"". Those were about 2 inches thick with lovely fruit and creamy cheese on them. Pros: Good Service, Good coffee Cons: No parking, circled and circled and parked 3 blocks away. more

Great Specials 12/30/2007

Really like the food here it is good, they come up with some unique breakfast specials that taste phenomenal. If you don't mind the wait and of course it gets crowded everything is really good. more

good breakfast spot...relaxing. 10/16/2007

Don?t be alarmed if you see a line, it usually goes pretty fast. I agree with the boring statement, if you are in the mood for a relaxing breakfast with not much action Toast is it. No booze at this location, but several newspaper machines out front. Great French toast. This is the place I go to satisfy a craving of French toast. Breakfast better than lunch..also has a decent breakfast burrito. Seating is tight, sit outback if it?s nice you will have more room. Pros: good food, outdoor seating Cons: no booze, really tight inside seating more

Best Brunch 9/22/2007

This place always delivers. The food is consistently good and the staff is always nice and attentive. The wait is never unbearable when other restaurants have a 1-2 hour wait on the weekends. I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant and I've tried many things on their menu. The breakfast menu has a lot of variety and specialty dishes like eggs danny which is eggs benedict with crab cakes - delicious. They have great options for lunch just as creative as the breakfast options. The outdoor patio is charming. I hope they open up more locations but until they do I will continue to visit for brunch every weekend. more

You call this prosciutto? 11/20/2005

To get down to it. The eggs benedict came and I dug in. First impression was ""the hollandaise is too lemony and this doesn't taste like prosciutto."" It was more like thingly sliced, overly cured Canadian bacon. The potatoes were ""good."" I forgave them though. The service I received was good enough to warrant another visit. This time I asked for the 'prosciutto' and hollandaise on the side and the meal was wonderful. Only used a couple of tablespoons of hollandaise because of how overpowering the lemon is, and only used a little less than half of the 'prosciotto' because of how salty it is. Service was again great. Waitress didn't have a problem with giving me things on the side. So..a note to the chef. Less lemon and more truffle in your hollandaise, and go to a good meat market and get some real prosciutto. You're not fooling me. Pros: Service, Low wait time, Nice atmosphere Cons: lemony hollandaise, bad 'prosciiutto' more

Awesome food, horrible staff 4/15/2005

Honest story... I observed a waitress giving poor service to a group of women. They, in return, gave her a poor tip. As they were getting up, the waitress confronted the group about her poor tip, asking them what she did to deserve it in a snotty voice. The people waiting were gasping in shock! After that, the staff behind the counter loudly talked about how ""customers just don't understand how we get stressed out when we are busy on the weekends."" Boo-hoo! In light of that, it's no joke that the service here is horrible and very adolescent. Furthermore, the space is small and cramped, but many, including me, would say that adds to the urban cafe charm. Nonetheless, the food is amazing and very unique. Pros: Delicious food, Unique menu choices, Urban dining experien Cons: Rude service, Small dining room, Long lines/waits more

Great Food, BAD SERVICE 2/25/2005

My friends and I went here about a week or two ago. It was crowded, but the wait wasn't too bad. The problem was that the waitress was incredibly rude to just about everyone , they screwed up my friend's order and then acted like they were doing us a huge favor for fixing it, and finally, refused to split the bill up (two of us tried to use credit cards and the waitress said that they couldn't split the bill onto more than one card - similar places have no problem doing this). Then, since two people had to borrow cash from others to cover their meal, we left a less than descent tip. So the waitress came running after us and said that we had not given her a tip at all (which was a lie). I'm sure you can get similar food at a less rude place. Pros: Good food Cons: Crowded, RUDE RUDE RUDE people more

Neighborly 8/13/2004

This was my first visit here and we were promptly seated on a pleasant Sunday morning - the window seat. This was 9:00am and it became crowded shortly after. The prices are a little high, but the food was delicious. Chicken sausage a nice change from the normal. The eggs Benedict was quite rich and filling. If you're in the neighborhood, it's a nice stop. Pros: good food, good service, friendly Cons: , may wait at times more

get the most at toast 1/19/2003

The servers are the reason that this place is a winner for me. They are attractive, low-key, and intelligent. The food is rich but delicious and if you go on a weekday you will rarely have to wait. It may be pricey, but it is in accordance with the neighborhood. Try the mascarpone french toast or the spinach tomato and goat cheese omelette. yummy! Pros: good service, good food Cons: expensive more
