Wow!!! 10/30/2007

We went back to Tinto last week since a friend told us that they had added a few dishes to their menu. The hostess remembered us and welcomed us with a great smile. That is always appreciated. No LA attitude. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We had almejas, patatas bravas and paella. Wow!!! I really love this place. Everything was great. We are going back to celebrate my wife?s birthday. Pros: Food and ambience more

Great Sangria! 10/28/2007

I was a bit hesitant on trying this place because I had read some bad reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised - first of all, the service is quite attentive and warm (so I'm surprised about the service complaints), second, the pitcher of sangria was like a neverending spring of sangria and was quite tasty, and third, the space was very cozy and festive (a bit loud) - but hey, it's a tapas joint, so you can't really expect it to be quiet. However, I have the agree, the food is just ok. We had the following:\r \r - Grillled scallops - pretty tasty, well-seasoned\r - Manchego Cheese and Serrano Ham - the cheese was ok, but the ham was way too dry and crusty\r - Pork medallions - the first bite was quite flavorful, but the aftertaste was so pungent and strange that I couldn't finish (but to be fair, my friend ate the whole thing and liked it)\r - patatas bravas - i love fried potatoes but these were a tad bit salty\r - croquette du jamon - pretty good, but again, a tad salty\r \r I would probably come back just to hang out and drink sangria, but for food, I'd go somewhere else.\r Pros: Great sangria, Warm Attentive Service Cons: Food was mediocre; A bit on the expensive side more

Great Food, Where's the Bread? 10/14/2007

A group of us went to Tinto Saturday night- we made reservations and were seated right away. Service was a bit slow but once we ordered, the food arrived promptly. We ordered a pitcher of the white sangria- It was light but the two drinkers amongst us drank most of it and didn't even get buzzed. The tapas were great- we tried many (these are small, small plates, even for tapas IMHO) of the standards- the mushrooms were tasty, the albondigas were a bit dry, the jumbo scallops were sweet and cooked perfectly. We also tried the chicken in beer (chicken was a bit dry), the cold eggplant, the quail (also on the dry side), and the omelette duo. Most of the spices and sauces were delicate and interesting- not overpowering and done well- this place definitely beats the other tapas places we have tried a far as flavor and authenticity are concerned. The standout were the langostines- tender and juicy and delicious! My biggest issue was the lack of bread- we ordered the bread on the menu thinking we were going to get a reasonably baket and the plate showed up with 5 slices with olive oil and cold tomatoes. In most tapas restaurants, they give you a basket of bread to soak up the juices off each of the plates. It was really shocking that Tinto did not. I noticed that the table next to us got an actual basket with bread and asked our server about it. She stated that they used to give out bread and that tables would go through 3 or more baskets and that the owner decided to make a policy not to offer any bread at all, unless those in the know asked for it. RIDICULOUS. Apparently the table next to us were Spanish restaurant owners who had asked for the bread. If the owner was so concerned about the bread, I would suggest they charge for it or institute a basket limit per table. The server apologized and offered us dessert. I would come back to try some of the entrees but all in all, a bit expensive for what you got and the lack of bread was unforgiveable. Pros: Great tapas, ambience Cons: pricey, no bread more

Great Tapas 10/12/2007

My boyfriend and I had heard about tinto from a friend. The decor is very cozy. I have to say we had a great time. We went on a Tuesday for our one year anniversary. The owner came to our table to and brought us a glass of sherry wine. I guess our waitress had told him it was our anniversary. We tried the patatas bravas, gambas ajilo and paella and it was delicious. more

Great service, so-so food... 10/8/2007

A group of friends and I had dinner at Tinto on Saturday night. The ambiance inside is amazing - dark and atmospheric like a bar in Europe. The service was also fantastic - the waitress was very (almost too) attentive and the owner spoke to us a few times. Although the food wasn't bad, I wouldn't say it was fantastic. The paella was definitely overcooked, although the albondigas were tasty. The food is definitely above-average, but not worth the prices that are charged, in my opinon. In addition, the portions were fairly small, especially when compared to other tapas places. The sangria wasn't bad, but we didn't try their wines. The desserts were definitely mediocre, and we tried the arroz con leche, flan and pears with wine. All in all, it's a decent new tapas place, but I'd recommend lowering the prices by a tad bit and turning up the flavor on the dishes.... Pros: Ambiance and service Cons: Price and taste more

Great atmosphere! Romantic! On the pricey side but worth every dollar. 10/1/2007

it was recommended by a friend. Good authentic tapas. I loved every one of the server's recommendations. The valet parking is a little confusing though. You have to drive past the restaurant a few stores to get to the valet. Pros: Food, ambience, service. Cons: Parking more

Amazing Tapas 9/26/2007

Excellent tapas/wine restaurant. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff. The warm interior was cozy and comfortable and it's a great place to taste large selection of Spanish wine! The reason to dine here is the flavorful food. If you're a garlic lover, this place is a must! more

Best spanish tapas with great ambiance 9/26/2007

After reading about this restaurant on Daily Candy, 4 of us decided to try it for our weekday dinner yesterday. It's dim lit and cozy with great choices of savory tapas. We were able to try all sorts of dishes to share and the tasty flavors of each dish were sooo good that we had to order seconds to the scallops and shrimp dishes. The wine our waitress recommended was at a reasonable price yet delicious. we were indecisive about a second bottle for a weekday but we just had to go ahead with ordering another one. Great find!! can't wait to go back! Pros: Great food & friendly service more

Best tapas outside of spain 9/18/2007

I just got back from spain a couple of months ago, so when my good friend told me that a new spanish restaurant had opened up, i was very excited to try it out. We went to eat at tinto last friday. As soon as we walked through the door it took me right back to spain. We were greeted by a nice man and we got seated immediately. I was happy to see alot of things on the menu that i had tried in spain. They also have a great selection of wine and killer sangria!!! The service was great and the food came out pretty quickly. One of my favourite dishes was the seafood paella. It was sooo delicious and you can easily share it between 2-3 people( depending on how many tapas u order). We had a great time and i cant wait to go back!!! Pros: Ambience, food, celebrity sightings more
