Best

Wow, that sums it up. My partner and I were looking for a new seafood restaurant to try, and we saw the great ratings for Three Fish on Citysearch so we tried it. Driving up to ...

Worst

The oysters were old which makes this place lower than a vending machine. Otherwise they had a nice atmosphere and a mostly pleasant staff.

Decent Food-Small portions-Romantic feel 12/5/2008

Three Fish has never been too generous with their portions, but they must be feeling that it's necessary to squeeze more profit out of the food and drinks. In addition the price is up a bit besides. Do not split as you will be hungry by the time you leave. The 'sides' are skimpy, (asparagus overdone) the fish portions are no more than 6 ounces and the wine pour is a joke. They serve reds in what appears to be almost cordial size with less than the minimum 4 ounces. The calamari is good but a third of what you expect filling up the plate with other items to give you the impression that you're getting what you pay for. Pros: Quiet, romantic setting for a special date Cons: Small portions in everything, high price more

Great secret in a strip mall 9/6/2007

Wow, that sums it up. My partner and I were looking for a new seafood restaurant to try, and we saw the great ratings for Three Fish on Citysearch so we tried it. Driving up to it, we were a bit put off by the location (in the strip mall on Excelsior and Lake where Whole Foods, Chipotle, and Noodles are). But upon entering, it was like walking into an upscale bistro in Downtown. White tablecloths, rich colors, and friendly staff who made the specials sound delicious. Pros: friendly staff, great food, right size portions Cons: parking more

Great overall experience 1/21/2007

Table for Eight......My family and I met there for a birthday celebration for two of the people in our party. The wait person was knowledgeable about the menu and the evening's specials, as well as being prompt and courteous. If you enjoy seafood, I recommend the curried shrimp appetizer as well as the scallops entree, both great. There is also ample menu selection available for the non-seafood dining companion. From past experience I know the pork tenderloin is always excellent. There's a nice wine list, whose selections include a half bottle (for at least one red) for the sole diner or a romantic sharing. For dessert, there was something for everyone, and the two birthday folks both tried the port flight, a nice dessert accompaniment. Besides myself, none of the diners at my table had been at this restaurant before, and at the close of the evening, all agreed that the service, food, and ambience all made for a very lovely (and memorable) evening. Pros: central location, food, service, seafood Cons: value more

Not enough variety on Menu - Pretentious. 9/17/2006

This place TRIES very hard to be high class, but fails miserably. They do not have much variety on their menu, and to make matters worse were out of 3 dishes when I was there. I ordered the walleye with the risotto (substitution since they were out of what the dish it normally comes with) and it came out raw. I sent it back, and new risotto was just a little more cooked than the last time. The manager came out and suggested mashed potato, but gave me an attitude and tried to ""school"" me on risotto, everyone at my table became irate at this point and told him to try it - how dare he even question a paying customer! He later apologized and left and offered free dessert for the mishap. Overall, I would never eat here again. The experience was horrible. I forgot to mention that the food took over an hour to get to our table and it was not worth the wait - go somewhere else. Cons: Menu, food, service more

plain jane 8/2/2005

The food was good and the service was fine but I was still eating my salad when the server brought out our entrees. To be fair it was his first night. Check it out but its not all that romantic. I would say it is a great place for a double date or pre-night out with the girls. more

Delectable 6/27/2005

The fact that this restaurant is in a strip mall brings to mind the saying: can't judge a book by its cover. The food here is simply delightful, and in may ways unique. The curried shrimp in crispy shell appetizer is superb, and the rare grilled ahi dish is highly recommended. I look forward to more satisfying dining at this gem of a restaurant. Pros: Food, Wine more

Amazing! 2/15/2005

This restaurant was way above our expectations! My husband, a chef, took me out for a romantic dinner and even HE was impressed! The dishes were original yet so very delicious, and the portions were just right - not too much, like so many other restaurants these days. Our waiter, Perry, was friendly yet polite, and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Salt & Pepper Blue Prawns, and my husband had the Seared Sea Scallops - both dishes were well-presented and unique, and the seafood was done to perfection. We will definately be coming back here again and again - a rare gem in the Twin Cities! Pros: amazing food, great prices, helpful waitstaff more

IMPECCABLE TASTE 3/18/2004

Hopefully our server will read this--she was such a doll. My husband and I decided to dine here for his birthday a few weekends back and she made the entire experience so special. She was so sincere and genuine and I believe that her name was Bethany. We will definitely be back for more of the incredible seafood and some of the best service we've ever had! more

Great bang for your buck 9/15/2003

Three Fish fills a valuable spot in the Twin CIties dining community: it is easy to access, has free parking, has an inexpensive and accessible menu, a broad range of wine options and a great waitstaff. Despite having reservations we had to wait for a table since the table they had for us was in the bar and I have bad allergies. Instead of treating this as a huge inconvenience, the staff was realy very accomodating. We were given complimentary cocktails while we waited for a new table and were seated before we finished our drinks. I'd go back simply from this type of customer first servicing alone. My husband's scallops were great, tender, smoky and buttery. I had the sea bass special on a creamy risotto. The service was prompt and our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and the wine selections. Pros: Reasonable, Great staff, Good wine list Cons: Tables very tight, Smoking @ bar more

Consistantly Terrific 8/15/2003

The food almost without exception is the finest and most consistent available in the city. The service has been consistently above average. With the exception of the jerk who panned the restaurant back in 2002 out of vitriol the remainder of us are of one accord. You should scrub his rating for sheer deviation. more

Swim with the fish 8/9/2003

With very few moderately-priced seafood restaurants in this city, I am glad that Three Fish not only exists, but has hit the mark so well. My girlfriend and I were very impressed with each of our entrees--seared scallops with saffron risotto for me and linguine with lobster, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes for her. There are a number of selections I would like to go back for, and I hope that the two specials make it back on the menu (pepper-crusted swordfish and striped sea bass). Banana bread pudding with a fizzy mango-passion fruit float and gingersnap napoleon followed the meal very well. The service was prompt and well-timed. Pros: food is great, service, wine list Cons: bad music overhead, crowd is geriatric more

Delightful 12/9/2002

Went here for a business lunch. Terrific salmon -- one of the best I'd had anywhere. Atlantic salmon, but as tender and tasty as the Copper Rivers I've had elsewhere. Nice atmosphere -- nothing special. Server was a bit flaky, but we got everything we needed and he was attentive. Prices are decent, lots of lunch items under ten, and I don't think anything was above $13. Pros: great seafood, pleasant atmosphere more

wow..a perfect 10! 12/2/2002

There are few restaurants that have impressed my wife and friends as much as this one. From our waiter to the food quality, everything here is first class! Top notch innovative fresh seafood and very warm and friendly service. This place is a 10+ Pros: value, quality, friendly Cons: no sunday brunch more

no longer for grandma 11/12/2002

OK, the food was good before, but now the place is coming alive. Can you beleave it, three fish actually has a great bar menu. We tried this place again (although my kids objected). Well next time they will go back a lot easier!!!! We got seated in the diningroom and when the kids mentioned to the server that they didn't want the kids meal (they feel to old for that) the server actually offered them to eat what was on the bar menu. You know what, it worked, the kids had a chicken sandwich with garlic fries and a fish and chips (they call it fish fry). My husband and I had the special menu ($15.95), which I found to be a great value. You know what, I think they call it a value menu, or something like that. Pros: Teenager friendly, Service, specials Cons: No Tv more

FABULOUS BAR STAFF..SERVICE 11/7/2002

WE WERE IN FOR A REPEAT VISIT OVER THE WEEKEND! OUR DRINK AT THE BAR WAS PAIRED WITH SOEM FRIENDLY AND LIVELY CONVERSATION WITH THE FEMALE BARTENDER. WE FELT SOOO WELCOMED AS USUAL....OUR SERVER IN THE DINING ROOM WAS A CUT ABOVE THE REST, AS WAS THE FOOD! I LOVE THE SCALLOPS AND THE NEW ESCOLAR FISH WAS A DELIGHT. WE RETURNED TO THE BAR FOR AN AFTER DINNER DRINK, AND REALIZED WE REALLY LIKE THE BAR HERE. ITS COZY, BEAUTIFUL AND QUIET. I WISH THERE WAS A TV OR BETTER MUSIC, IT COULD BE A REGULAR BAR SPOT WITH A LITTLE MORE ENTERTAINMENT. KEEP THE BARTENDER...DARK HAIR AND A PERSONALITY THATS SECOND TO NONE!!!! Pros: FOOD Cons: NO TV IN BAR, MUSIC IS TOO "OLD" more

a real gem! 11/6/2002

This warm, inviting restaurant is our new favorite! We tried three fish on advice from friends and were so pleased that we are going back this week again. Friendly and personable service from the time we walked in the door until we departed. The food was exceptional. Fresh, creative and very tasty. The prices were very reasonable. We dined on a weeknight and for less than $16 per person we had two fabulous courses, salad and entree. we also chose a bottle of wine for $20. Three Fish is a real gem and we are looking forward to many more meals on the horizon! more

Quality Revisited 10/26/2002

After trying three fish last summer when it opened, we decided to go back when things were not ""so busy"". To our delight, the restaurant was superb! We found several new changes, mainly a pasta section for our guests that do not eat fish and several items priced below $14. The quality and presentation were outstanding and the service was genuinely friendly and timely. What a neighborhood gem! Pros: food, service, value Cons: no sunday brunch more
