Best

The night we headed to The Whisper Lounge at The Grove, I was not expecting much. I was pleasently surprised as we were greeted with a knowledgeable, friendly staff, amazing wine...

Worst

A large group made reservations weeks in advance to hold a special outing here. When we arrived, there was no record of the cocktail lounge reservation just the dinner reservation...

the only place for a drink at the Grove, so u have no choice 11/26/2009

I go there because I can walk there, otherwise I'd never be seen there. The place seems pretty popular and I'm still trying to figure out why, possible because it's the only place for a drink before or after a movie. The food is overpriced for the quality and quantity. The bar closes whenever it decides to so your plans could change at 9:30 when they call ""last call"" because they feel the night is slow. I have spoke with 2 different bartenders and they are both friendly and on top of everything all night.....until the rush to get everyone out before 11PM. You will be taking a risk if you choose to have dinner there, you never know if they will be out of something or if it will be anything like it was the last time you ordered it. The decor and lighting is relaxing and sets a nice mood. This is a nice place for a drink if you are stuck at the Grove or near by but I would stick to the bar and go somewhere else for dinner. Pros: location Cons: unpredictable hours and unpredictable food more

laidback crowd, stylish setting, tasty cocktails 7/17/2008

Enjoy a laid-back vibe, a beautiful crowd and tasty cocktails amid a stylish setting. Dominated by sultry shades like burgundy, black and gold, the sultry setting is perfected with long black curtains adorned with opulent tassels while high tables and leader upholstered stools set the scene for extensive lounging and flirting. This fashionable haunt is a real stage to see and be seen. Sit at the high stools at the bar and enjoy the view over a vibrantly chatting crowd. Order some delicious appetizers or an tasty strawberry cosmopolitan and feel like in New York. Pros: Desing, crowd, atmosphere Cons: Closes early on Sundays more

The ONLY Place in The Grove to Settle in for Drinks and Dinner! 9/25/2007

The night we headed to The Whisper Lounge at The Grove, I was not expecting much. I was pleasently surprised as we were greeted with a knowledgeable, friendly staff, amazing wines by the glass (priced reasonably), and solid American Fare. Pros: Great Location, nice Wines by the Glass, Friendly Service Cons: Crowded, little dark more

My fave Hideaway! 8/9/2006

Food has always been excellent. Hidden and almost private atmosphere. Piano or jazz combos nightly. Bartenders friendly. Service fast. I love going here. Great date spot if you can get an open air table especially! Pros: Overall Experience!!! Cons: It's in THE GROVE more

Tastless Food 1/31/2006

This restaurant is incredibly cute, with a great vibe and a nice retreat from the busy Grove shopping. However, the service is not the greatest and the food is horribly bland and tasteless. We ordered the recommended grilled artichoke, it wasnt properly cooked and tasted like grease. The Steak had no flavor and neither did the whitefish or any of our sides. We had to ask our server for salt and pepper to be able to eat anything. The only upside was that our martinis were nice and strong. Pros: Good drinks, Ambiance Cons: Service, Food more

Almost Perfect 8/27/2005

This place is ideal for me...clean, quiet, not too bright and comfortable. The food is very well prepared and the service is excellent. The Cobb salad was fresh and the Portobello mushroom sandwich was fantastic. Too bad this place is in the middle of The Grove...if it was on the beach in Malibu or on a rooftop downtown it would be truly perfect. Pros: atmosphere, service, food Cons: location, parking more

New Yorkers love Whisper Lounge 7/27/2005

To put it simple this is Simple A splendid place to spend quality time enjoying the ambiance, food, your family and friends. It's not an eat and run kind of place. Pros: Service, Parking, Food Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Horrible Service for the Price 7/18/2005

A large group made reservations weeks in advance to hold a special outing here. When we arrived, there was no record of the cocktail lounge reservation just the dinner reservation (how do you loose one but not the other?). We had a cake and other items we needed to store until dinner and the greeting hostess said she was about to leave her shift, couldn't help us, so we were forced to sit in the lounge and hold everything. Once we were seated for dinner, table service was horrific and un-professional especially given their price points. Food was good but for the amount of $$$ we spent, everything should of been good, for the lounge reservation confusion, everything should of been better then good. Pros: outdoor lounge, food Cons: service, attitude, price more

So Bad! 7/18/2005

The staff so was so rude to me and my guests...We left even before we placed our order. I have no problem telling everyione I run across to avoid this place. I will even call people I don't know and tell them to stay away. With so many places in LA...why go where they care NOTHING about the customers. Spend your money somewhere else ! more

SERVICE SUCKED ! 7/13/2005

I went to the Whisper Lounge to check it out for an event. was my 1st time there and definately the last time I will eer go there. The hostess was so rude and we stood around waiting for someone to help us. We saw a couple leave and they ofered us their table. Once we sat down the hostess (if I can call her that) came over and said ""This table is reserved and people call to make reservations,...that's how reservations work! It's not as if there were dozens of people waiting after us but she could have been a hellofa lot nicer. Needless to say...i won't be planning any events here. more

Huge Improvements at Whisper Lounge 10/1/2004

I recently revisited the Whisper Lounge and understand that the restaurant is under new management which includes a new exec. chef. The food was awesome, better than my first visit. My husand and I enjoyed the pre-fixe dinner that is offered on Tues. nights. For $30 a person, you each get an appetizer, an entree and dessert. My husband had an amazing steak and I had albacore tuna with fresh vegetables. We each had a glass of wine, amazing food and a romantic dinner accompanied by live piano music and spent less than $100 including a nice tip for our friendly server. Pros: Romantic, Live Music, Food more

Intriguing 9/7/2004

I liked this place-genuinely cool. I opted for the artichoke appetizer that was suggested on the editorial review and was delighted with the choice. Great wine selections and just a neat place for a chnage of pace. Pros: Menu Selection, Wine Choices, Cool Place more

the whisper lounge 3/16/2004

Great place, the only complaint I have is that we stayed too late...we didn't want to leave! Ambience, service, food, champers...all exellent.. Great place for friends or a date..Cool crowd but not pretentious. Calamari and the chilli were both excellent..A mix of modern nostalgia created with great music! Finally a place that offers everything..You won't want to leave either! Pros: service, price, music more

Delightful Surprise! 3/14/2004

Prior to meeting two friends for dinner Friday night, I looked over the reviews on city search...they could not have been more misleading. My friends and I were promptly seated at a roomy table next to the open window that allowed for a nice warm breeze. Our waiter brought us our menus and quickly brought our Champagne. The nicely-mixed crowd was lively and the atmosphere easy, breezy and elegant. The food was DELICIOUS! Nice, big portions! I loved the artichokes and the tuna tartare. I can't wait to come here on a hot, summer night. This is a spot to watch out for! Easy parking too. Check it out before it gets too crowded. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Service more

Wonderful Time 3/12/2004

We started with Spicy Chili which was the BEST I have ever had then moved onto The Grilled Halibut and it was wonderful. Fresh tasting and cooked perfectly. For dessert The Triple Layer Chocolate Cake can not be missed..... more

Wonderful Place 3/12/2004

Arrived on a Friday Night with 3 friends we were sat right away Eve our waitress greeted us right away and was delightful. She was WELL informed about the menu and specials, and recommended several. One being the Grilled Artichoke with Herbed Vinaigrette and Dijonasse sauce..WOW, it was amazing.....The Calamari was also excellent and nice and crispt how we all like it. For our main courses we had Lobster Pot Pie, Wild Boar Ragu, 20 oz Porterhouse and a New York steak... Everything was cooked perfect and was so YUMMY..... This Place is Wonderful!!! Pros: Food, Service more

Terrible Service, Terrible Food... 3/8/2004

Wow. What a disappointment. When I first walked into this place I was excited by the cushy old school hollywood setting, and the rat pack soundtrack. Even the drink menu was impressive. Unfortunately, that's where the positive ends. The server came to our table forty five minutes after we ordered our entrees, to tell one of the members of our party that they were out of the dish she ordered. This was followed by more waiting, with poor excuses from managemnt as to why our food was taking so Gosh Darn long. When the food arrived, the fish was cold (and far from fresh) the pork chop was overcooked, and to put it the words of my illustrious associate ""the lobster pie was just plain gross."" The whole affair took three hours and left us poorly fed. Sadly this lounge's whisper is more like a THUD. Pros: Ambience Cons: , FOOD, SERVICE more
