Hmmm... 10/18/2010

I've been here a few times and every time was JUST OK- except for my most recent visit on Saturday night. Because we live around the block, we figured we would check Uptown out before heading more downtown. We were a group of 6 and the hostess had an extremely bad attitude. We were looking to have a few drinks and maybe some light food- nothing too heavy and we didn't plan on staying too long. The place was pretty much empty (10PM Sat night) and we wanted to get a small table at the bar and stand and socialize. The hostess was extremely rude and kept pressuring us to get a booth. We didn't want to be sitting in the back of the restaurant if we were there to just hang out and have light food. She seemed ANGRY and ANNOYED. Maybe she was just having a bad night, but we ended up leaving. The crowd was strange anyway and there are many other better lounges/bars without the bad attitude a few blocks away. I'm not sure how the brunch is- it always looks busy Saturday and Sunday brunch hours- but if they want to have customers and not appear EMPTY on a Saturday night- the hostess needs to lose her attitude. more

Great Service 6/27/2010

This place is one of my all time favorite restaurants in New York, primarily because of the atmosphere and the outstanding service. The food is great, but pricey. The quality of service is so outstanding and makes you feel so special. Pros: Food is very good Cons: Pricey more

Used to be my go-to brunch place 3/27/2010

Uptown used to be my go-to brunch place given their $15 brunch menu which includes 2 drinks. However, having not gone there in quite some time, I took a friend to brunch today and it was abysmal at best. All the food was cold. I had to send it back. And when they brought my food back they replaced my breakfast potatoes with french fries. Huh?? I was starving by that point so I just dealt with it and ate the french fries. At least they were hot. The omlets have gotten much tinier in size. They used to offer multi-grain toast which I used to order all the time from there. However, wheat toast arrived with my meal today and when I inquired about why I received wheat when I ordered multi-grain they informed me that they now only serve white or wheat toast. Then why didn't the waitress tell me this when I placed my order and specifically ordered the multi-grain?? I also ordered sausage and instead of the usual links I had always gotten arrived a cold, greased over looking sausage patty that I would expect to see on an egg McMuffin at McDonald's. When I inquired about this as well they informed me that they used to serve links and now they've switched to these disgusting looking patties. Needless to say, I was pretty embarrassed that I took a friend that was visiting from out-of-town to what WAS my go-to brunch spot. What used to be a really good value has just gone downhill. I'd rather pay more to get better quality food then the slop they were serving there. Pros: None anymore Cons: Cold food, smaller portions, not a good value any more more

Great place on the UES 3/17/2010

I lived on the UES for 2 1/2 years a few years ago and this was my go-to bar. The other ones in the area are kind of divey and packed full of the "just out of college" crowd. I was in that crowd too but was not trying to extend my college days with beer pong or other things like that (they have their place but just not my thing). I can't remember all the special deals they have but I remember a martini night and a sangria night. My fave bar tender left but they were all good. It's a decent place to meet a blind date or with friends after work for drinks and apps. My group of friends did New Year's there too and I thought it was a good deal for what it was. I haven't been lately since I'm not in that area very often but I can't remember any negatives. The spinach dip is great and so is whatever comes with the pita bread...probably hummus but like I said, it's been a while. I recommend it if you're in the area! Pros: price, food, drinks Cons: nothing stands out more

Good Date Spot 1/7/2010

I was pleasantly surprised by Uptown Lounge. I've been dating a girl who lives on the UES for a few months, so I've been spending lots of time up there lately and trying a bunch of the bars/restaurants. Most of the places we've gone so far are either dive bar with kids that just graduated college yesterday, or stuck-up, old UES people. Uptown was different. It was a good mix of younger and older people, it was nice but not stuffy, people weren't spilling drinks on us like the bars on 2nd Ave, and the food was actually really good. We sat at the bar for a while and the bartender was great - he made great drinks and was cordial and quick. We ate at the bar as well, and I was impressed with the food. We split an appetizer, and a chicken dish with mushrooms and tomatoes and artichokes that was great. The only downside I found of the place was getting in - there are so many doors on the building front that it was kind of hard to find our way in. Once we did, I was glad we made it. Pros: great drink menu, nice ambiance Cons: couldn't find the front door more

My New Home 12/18/2009

I moved to the upper east side a couple months ago and have been using this site to help me find places to hang out and I think I finally did. Uptown has a great happy hour special everyday and that's why I first tried it. Now I go all the time because the food is great and I can get anything from buffalo chicken fingers to filet mignon. Also the bar always has a lot of hot girls because it's one of the nicer places in the neighborhood. They let the bartenders buy back rounds after you've had a few too. I've officially made this place my spot and it doesn't hurt that the staff has started to remember my name when I go there. See you soon Uptown. Pros: Cool drinks, great food Cons: It's not on the same block as my apartment more

Overrated 12/16/2009

I've lived in NYC on the UES basically my entire life. When Uptown first opened it was fantastic...or perhaps just something different to the neighborhood. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. You could see the place going down as the staff became snotty and unhappy and the food slowly declined. I had vowed never to return again. Well I did just last week when a group of coworkers decided to meet up there. Horrible is all I have to say. The only reason this restaurant is still in the neighborhood is because people got use to it. If the food/drinks/prices/snooty staff would have been this way when they first opened they would not have lasted more than 6 months. I do not recommend this place to anyone. So many places to dine in NYC don't bother with this place. Pros: convenient for UESers Cons: Heads got too big more

Why go anywhere else? 12/8/2009

I've lived at Rupert towers for the last three years and love going to the Uptown Lounge. The staff make you feel so welcome. My girlfriends and I meet there for our monthly get together, usually on their jazz night. We usually work something out with Erik (apps and unlimited wine for $30 each) The place nevers gets stale. I donn't want to sound boring, but we probably come here two to three times a week. Lance, the DJ, is awesome on the weekends, jazz band is cool (tuesday??) great wine deals and we love the brunch. So glad they opened for lunch, limited "nice" places to go in the area. Pros: night with the ladies & cool place Cons: consider an escalator to Rupert towers (lol!!) more

Excellant Party Venue 12/8/2009

A truly impressive party room, excellent food, and a very attentive staff. Our staff and clients were very impressed. Uptown (especially Dan) made planning and hosting our company Christmas party an absolute pleasure. From the start to the end, they did a fantastic job. Pros: skylight room, pretty interior, excellant spread more

Great Find 12/2/2009

great band on Monday night, Bourbon burgers and wings are awesome, cool place to go on a random night. Seems to get a great crowd every night. New to the area, but I think I'll be a regular at the Uptown. more

Excellant Dinner Party 11/29/2009

My brother's 40th birthday dinner was beyond words. Tremendous gratitude to the staff and manager. Our meals were excellent, the room was brilliant, and our expectations were exceeded. My mum and I planned this dinner party from the UK , it was made with such ease and delight. The staff were a treat, the food remarkable, and the drinks as good as any pub across the pond. Many thanks and a sincere appreciation for the quality of hospitality experienced at The Uptown Restaurant & Lounge, NYC more

Finally! 11/27/2009

I am by far no foodie (kind of find them annoying), but I highly recommend the appetizers/pizzas at Uptown. I haven't eaten in the dining room or tried any of the entrees. However, for an after work snack and a beer, Uptown is my favorite spot. Love the new craft beer selection, solid draft line-up, and an interesting drink menus. Bartenders are really cool and not stingy on a buy back here and there. They have a great band on Mondays with $4 beers. They must be doing something right, the place is always busy. Pros: new beer selection, cool drinks, great bar food more

The Best Place on The Upper East Side 11/27/2009

My colleagues and I (from Mt. Sinai Hospital) have our monthly department dinner at Uptown restaurant. This is one of the most relaxed, cool, and upbeat places in the area. Our experience at Uptown is always positive and I never have any doubts where to go when we are taking visiting doctors or speakers out. When available, the Skylight Room is a great complement to any evening. They have an extensive craft beer selection (which I love) and creative drink menu. We made the mistake of having our department dinner at the “steak house” down the street and were very disappointed. Won’t do that again. I highly suggest this venue and will continue to patronage them. When planning a dinner party or special night out, the managers (Daniel or Eric) will make sure you are well taken care of. Pros: great food, upbeat venue, nice place for a dinner party more

Best Birthday Party 11/25/2009

I hosted my husband's 35th birthday party at The Uptown Lounge this past weekend. I worked with Eric and Dan; they were delightful to deal with. Our bartender, Kellyn, did a fantastic job. The main bar and dining room was packed, however we received great service from the staff and the undivided attention of the managers. The appetizers and pasta station were delicious. The price was reasonable, actually I would have paid more knowing what I know now. I highly recommend Uptown for parties or just a fun night out. Many Thanks!! Pros: skylight room is beautiful, awesome staff, great staff Cons: not a single thing more

used to be better 5/16/2009

i have been here for just drinks as well as sitting down for lunch. the bar experience was much better, though their drinks are overpriced. for lunch, got a simple cobb salad and food was not very fresh or tasty. its great for the neighborhood, but i dont think i'd go back. Pros: extensive wine list Cons: food, prices more

disappointing 3/12/2009

Let me start by saying that I WANT to like this place. The atmosphere is great, drinks are strong and tasty, and it fills a niche in a neighborhood dominated by dives and sports bars. However, the abominable service makes Uptown Lounge nearly impossible to enjoy. I've been several times in the past couple months, and each time the service is worse than the time before, culminating in last night's visit when I found a sliver of glass in my martini. The waitstaff seemed unconcerned about this and did not apologize, even as I handed over the half inch shard. My drink was replaced, but not comped and I left with a lighter wallet and without any sympathy from the staff at Uptown Lounge. Pros: Great atmosphere, good food and drink Cons: horrible service more

Great Place 11/22/2008

This place is really great. The staff are nice and friendly. The atmosphere is amazing. And, the lighting is really amazing. The food was really great and I had some of the best filet mignon I've ever eaten. However, I don't think it was good enough for 5 stars. Further, it was CRAZY expensive. I think they're charging way too much for what they ultimately deliver. more

Definitely a place not to miss. 10/30/2008

This place is one of my all time favorite restaurants in New York, primarily because of the atmosphere and the outstanding service. The food is great, but nothing that sets it apart from our city's stiff competition. The reason to go here is that there just aren't restaurants like this anymore. The quality of service is so outstanding and makes you feel so special, that this is my go to place for special occasions and visiting friends/family. more

Fabulous Brunch! 11/26/2007

Though I usually stick to my own neighborhood spots downtown for brunch, I was pleasantly surprised by Uptown's Sunday brunch menu and two drink (Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Coffee, included) special -$15.95. Unlike most places in the city, there was no crowd or wait (even at 12:45), the service was quick and pleasant and the food exceptional (hefty portions). I really felt like I got my money's worth and enjoyed not being rushed out to make room for waiting customers. The brunch menue offered breakfast favorites as well as a few lunch crossovers. I will definitely revisit if I am uptown! (They also have a killer Cobb Salad). more

Great Brunch 11/7/2007

This place has the best brunch on the UES. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere are all great! I also enjoy their martini specials on Wednesdays. Pros: food, service, drinks more
