Editorial review from Citysearch 11/28/2012

I love the Shepards Pie...I do need to branch out and try the other stuff but I love it. Trivia here on Wednesday's is awesome. Fun crowd, great beer choices. If you like soccer then you should be here. more

Joyless boozer 2/2/2011

I'm a Brit. I've been coming here for 10 years on and off and not much has changed. It's the de facto place for ex-pats to meet, it has some good British beer, the food is okay. What unfortunately overshadows all of the good stuff is the fact that it is overpriced, service is grumpy or indifferent and it has a stale atmosphere. It's the last point that's the real shame - it's simply not a welcoming place and that's at odds with what proper British pubs are all about. By the way, to excuse the ignorance of the Editorial Review, Scots ARE Brits. Get your facts right at least! more

Home Brewers find another place 6/26/2010

I am a 54 year old petroleum profesional and home brewer. On the occasion of the USA vs Ghana World Cup Match I spent $120 on food and drink and all I expected was to be able to take my two Chimay Red bottles home with me to re-fill and cork. No way, according to the dumb assistant manager and brown toothed bouncer. I have owned a bar and contrary to what the two limp dicks say, it is not a state law that you cannot leave with an empty bottle. The Gingerman and just about any other beer bar worth mentioning in town will let you but not this place. Since a belgian bottle it worth about $2 per bottle to home brewers and 16oz bottles are worth at least $.50 I would say you would be better taking you business elsewhere. I have patronized this place since 1986 and hunted with a part owner of the place and spent countless thousands of dollars there over the last 24 years, but needless to say, I will not be going back. Ther are too many better beer bars in town to put up with there sh*t and the breath of the bouncer. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Service not that good plus waitress was hungry 3/8/2010

My GF and I went Saturday afternoon for lunch to check it out for our happy hour group. We sat out on the patio deck, but after several minutes no-one came out to take our order. Ok, we said, maybe its slow today, let's go in. Went inside, sat at a table, and again no-one came over to take our order. Then we went to the bar and waited. Two waitresses were five feet away and they didn't bother to look over. Finally we had to wave at someone to take our order. What's it take for this place to notice customers? The place had only ten people in there. We are not regulars so maybe the custom is to ignore new faces, but no way to attract new regulars. Oh, and when our food was sitting in the kitchen window waiting to be served, a waitress came by and picked a crouton off our salad and ate it. Wonder what else goes on back in the kitchen? You can guess on the amount of our tip. Our group will definately pass on going there in the evening. Pros: Pub atmosphere Cons: Service more

Count Down to World Cup 2010 6/19/2009

This is where I'm watching the playoffs all the rest of the year and where I'll be for the World Cup in 2010 - since I can't be in South Africa. Always a great crowd for watching football - everyone is a good sport whether their team wins or loses. And of course nothing's better than a pint of Guinness during the match! Good craic! Pros: Great atmosphere for sports Cons: Not enough parking for big events more

Daycare in the evening 5/20/2009

Fairly good food, nice jukebox, Michelle is great, on nights its a adult venue its good.Im not getting the concept a family bar....... Tonight after 8pm there were so many children running and screaming, and crying .One had drunk parents. who swore at me when I asked if their child could please not be running so close to my chair because they were using the f word !..I left.I go to a bar to relax in a adult atmosphere not to participate in diaper changing and shrieking kiddies. Make up your mind, bar or childcare! And it stinks like raw sewage. Pros: Nice when its not a nursery Cons: too many toddlers running around more

More Mead - Wench! 5/1/2008

Not sure what the other reviewers were doing in the Arms, it might not be a meat-market, but it definately attracts some decent totty, at times. Food is excellent, the burgers, definately the bangers and even more definately the chicken curry. Quiz nights on a Wednesday is now a tradition and you have to get there early to get a seat. Speakers are abysmal though and the penny-pinching owner needs to stump up some cash to get them fixed before he sees some of his customers moving elsewhere. Great place to watch football and rugby......although the door price is hefty, it's worth every penny. Beer selection is great, but you pay more for your beer here than pretty much anywhere else in the city of Houston. Regulars abound, hidden away in the dark corners, or puffing on their cancer sticks on the newly extended deck. Great bar staff though, Jen is an angel, George is an Institution, albeit a Spurs supporter. Pros: Beer selection, service, atmosphere Cons: Toilets, Speakers, Toad Night more

Great Pub! Great ambience - indoors and out! 3/21/2008

Since I can't get to London as often as I want to, I go to the Richmond Arms - although they don't have all the traditional British fare that I wish for, they do come close. And they are always gracious to accomodate our lunchtime request for an English breakfast. One of the few places in Houston to serve hard cider on tap - lovely. Check it out and if you lovely messy hamburgers, order the Prime Minister. Thank you Richmond Arms! Pros: A Little bit of jolly ole' England right here in Houston Cons: Sometimes, they screen special soccer matches and there is a high cover charge for entry. more

Awesome! 8/17/2007

everything about it is fantastic, from the great service, excellent selection of beers and just a warm feeling like a down home bar. Congrats...keep up the great work! more

Good English pub 11/19/2006

The Richmond Arms is a a good place to meet friends for soccer games and beer. The food is not so great but the ambiance makes up for it. more

great food and atmosphere 11/18/2006

I absolutely love this pub! It never changes and that is so great! So many great beers and such good food and service! This place is the best in the winter because of the warmth and cozyness. Pros: beer selection, atmosphere, food more

Best place for a real beer! 10/15/2006

Great people, excellent atmosphere. Inexpensive drinks. Best place for quiz night. Definitely not a ""meat-bar"". Chilled clientel that makes you feel extremely relaxed. Weekday nights are a hopping industry crowd. Only bad thing about this place and its minor, is rowdy ""new"" drinkers. Their place should be somewhere else, such as Sam's Boat. But ignore whenever they arrive, they usually don't stick around. Best place to see a soccer match. Pros: beer selection, parking, service more

Experience a REAL Pub 10/16/2003

The Arms is my favorite pub to drink at when I'm in the States. It's a great place to meet people from various Commonwealth nations in Houston on business, and the local British expat community is a good bunch. It does tend to get crowded when there's a good football match on (aka soccer), any night there's a planned event (damn near everynight), and on Friday and Saturday nights when the irregulars cruise in. If you really want to experience the charm of this place, then stop in for a pint (imperial pints! 20 oz!) on a Saturday around lunchtime. Pros: Great beer selection, Great staff, over 80 beers on tap Cons: Can get crowded more

For the Older Crowd 4/30/2003

I went with two of my friends, both of whom are 4-10 years older than me (I'm 26) and I felt really bored. There is a relaxed atmosphere and good food, but if you're looking to dance or mingle, this is not the place to go. Pros: food, clean, inexpensive Cons: boring, no social scene, music more

UK on Richmond 4/2/2003

A lovely spot of Great Britain in Texas. Good beer, good food, and genuine Brit feel to this pub makes one homesick for the UK. Plenty of room and comfort for the real beer fan. Pros: beer selection, food, ambience more

""The Power Of Beer"" Clan Speaks 9/19/2002

I found this bar to be rather crowded but that is to be expected. The Richmond Arms has a hump day quiz off every week with food/drink prizes as well as cash for the winning teams. The menu is that of an English pub with an american flair and I enjoyed the dish I ordered. Richmond Arms also has a deck out front which allows the overflow of people inside to go outside if they wish. They also have a HUGE beer selection with very many types on tap. If the need to show off trivia knowledge is your cup of tea, the hump day quiz off is good fun and can be profitable. The last time we went there our team ""The Power of Beer"" won and I paid for my bill with my share of the winnings! Jolly good fun! Pros: cheap, good beer selection, good food Cons: crowded, no fans on deck more

NICE AND FUN! 9/19/2002

Very good place to meet new people, everybody there was nice and wanted to have fun... perfect for meeting people right after work.... Pros: INEXPENSIVE, GOOD PARKING, NICE PEOPLE Cons: NEEDS SPACE TO DANCE, NEEDS ROMANTIC MUSIC, MORE ADVERTISEMENT more

Have a go! 8/9/2002

Great place to get a drink and hang out with friends, and make new ones, mostly from the UK, which is great in iteself, as it allowes a person to become more culturally enriched! I've never had a problem there, always enjoyed the great British atmosphere! Is especially nice when you a meet and Aussie!!! more

only decent place on Richmond... 8/8/2002

this is a great place to relax and have a good beer with friends. Laid back, dark (but outside seating too), with good food and friendly service. Not to mention, the best jukebox I've seen in this city. more
