Editorial review from Citysearch 2/2/2014

The pastrami is pretty good here but they don't put as much of it on the sandwich as I would like. Definitely recommend! more

Juicy-delicious cheeseburger ‘n thick shakes. Belgian fries must be dipped in garlic aioli or ordered piggy style for a very guilty pleasure more

OOOO-YEAHHHHHH!!! 3/8/2012

Love this joint --- limited beer selection, but always good and different. And the Garlic dipping sauce for fries keeps me coming back. Keep it up guys! more

Hands down best burger! 2/25/2011

My husband and I had a hankering for a really good burger and we def found it at The Oinkster!!! It was made to order, meat was tasty, the bun was nice and fresh and the service was outstanding! Highly recommend it! We can't wait to go back to try some of their other items more

Yummy Burger, Delicious Strawberry Milkshake 1/3/2011

My boyfriend has taken me to this place several times now. And I'm not putting up a fight! The burgers are not always well cooked - hit or miss kinda thing, (I like my meat well done) but they are surprisingly yummy! They are juicy and just melt away in my mouth... so I don't wind up paying much attention to that once I've taken a bite. The chicken is tender and cooked just right. My favorite is the strawberry milkshake. It's thick with a strong strawberry taste... just the way I like it. The Oiknsterade is pretty good too.\r \r I have yet to try the pulled pork sandwich. Looking forward to it! =) \r \r Seating isn't always wonderful, but we've gotten lucky. They need to be aware of turning those heaters on outside especially during these cold nights. Other than that, I have no complaints yet. \r more

Our Favorite in Eagle Rock 10/22/2009

I've been a reader of reviews for years but never actually written one. But after reading what seemed like a horribly unfair review, I felt I needed to balance it with our family's raves. We Love The Oinkster! We love the french fries, we love the Pastrami and the pulled pork, the hamburgers are fantastic, and the Aioli dipping sauce is out of this world! The sandwiches are big enough to share so that you can have room to fill up on the best fries ever. Did I mention that the Beet/Spinach Salad is a delightful healthy option on their ""specials"" menu? The place isn't perfect, however. The milkshakes are good, but not great. The brownies are way too dry, so we go for the PB&J cupcakes now when we want a sweet treat. But the core menu of the place is solid and dependable. What makes the Oinkster the family favorite is Manager Josh, who goes out of his way to make sure our dining experience is perfect. The crowd is delightfully eclectic and between the indoor tables, the outdoor tables and the low bench seating, there's a comfort level for everyone. When we leave the kids at home, the grown-ups enjoy the beer selection which seems to have been carefully picked to go with the food. No place is flawless, but we're almost always leaving very happy and very full! Pros: Fabulous Food and Manager Josh Cons: Dry Brownies more

Best Pastrami...EVER. 10/21/2009

I used to live close to this place so I would come here once a month. Their pastrami sandwiches are one of the 5 best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Period. The Belgian fries are killer and so is the garlic aoli/ mayo sauce is perfect. Even the hot mustard is terrific! Canters is the BIG Legendary pastrami joint in L.A. and for good reason. Their sandwiches are great. But The Oinkster IS better. For about $12 you get a sandwich at Canters. For about $12 at the Oinkster you get a MUCH bigger and better sandwich AND a ton of killer fries. I will go back to his place every time I visit L.A. Long live the Oink!!!!! Pros: Huge portions, great sevice, great eating environment, etc. Cons: can be a little pricey more

Bombdizzle Joint 10/20/2009

In my opinion, they have the best burgers ever, the best fries, and the best garlic sauce/ ayoli. When people ask where to go to eat in Eagle Rock, my wife and I always say Oinkster. Pros: Great place to hang out at with awesome food! more

Wow! Heaven in your belly exists! 10/20/2009

Home made at it's best! I mean everything from the breaed, pickles, ketchup, hot/sweet mustard, everything! They have the best hamburger I've ever eaten. The pastrami is cured for two weeks, then applewood smoked. My eyes are rolling back just remembering it. The pulled pork is to die for, nestled with the perfect amount of Home made pickled red cabbage to compliment. It doesn't look so great on the outside, but neither does an oyster. \r Oinkster is a rare pearl for your tastebuds! I salivate just thinking about the place. I guess it's called The Oinkster because you just can't seem to eat enough of everything they make! Pros: The best burger in the world! Cons: There isn't one in my neighborhood more

Great Place to enjoy quality Family Time 10/20/2009

I've grown up in this area all my life and just by seeing the changes within this community, I am convinced that The Oinkster is going to be a long living asset to the growth of the surrounding community. My wife and my children love all that you have to offer, Good Times and great Family Togetherness.!!!! Pros: Conveniently located next to everything Cons: Needs a bigger patio dining area, but still great.!!! more

Yummy Yummy Yummy! 10/20/2009

My husband and I LOVE this place! We live in Eagle Rock and this is one of our favorite places to take our friends to, in town. The owner is an award winning chef. He owns high end restaurants in Sherman Oaks (if I remember correctly). He decided to open something in the area he grew up, Eagle Rock. He developed the recipes and his son runs the business (from what I recall). They have the BEST pulled pork sandwiches and awesome fries. They make all their own sauces, even the ketchup! Pros: Pulled Pork Sandwiches & The Fries! more

Not Worth It 6/8/2009

Pretty pricey for a ""fast-food"" restaurant. Keep an eye on your food. You get up to refill a drink and your table gets cleaned and your meal ends up in the trash. Avoid at all costs. Cons: Price/Service more

OK but really slow 5/11/2009

I know they say they are slow, but no one wants slow. A burger doesnt take 20 minutes. OK and the buns. They get soaked with the juicy burgers. Hey folks, TOAST EM. Add some butter garlic as well and they would be the bomb. Pastrami is great however. Pros: good quality Cons: SLLLOWWW for fast food more

Can someone explain to me how this is cheap? 4/3/2009

I'm a little confused how this place was considered cheap. My Pastrami sandwich which came with no sides was $9. I won't be going back. Pros: Tasty Cons: Expensive fast food more

Good Food, Great Service 2/17/2009

I took my family here recently (we have a two year old and a four year old) and we enjoyed it very much. The hamburger, shake, and fries we had were very good, but what I remember the most is the friendly service. It was sunny out and one of the waiters came out and put out an umbrella for shade. Another woman came by a couple times to make sure we were taken care of. So its definitely not your typical ""fast food"" place. And it is ""slow"" fast food, so be prepared to wait a little bit for your food. Loved it. Plan to go back. more

Terrific ""Slow Fast Food"" ~ just great 2/3/2009

Terrific ""Slow Fast Food"" ~ just great\r \r I found this place just charming and the food was terrific. I am from New Orleans, so I take my fatty food very seriously; great fries (that super crisp twice fried Belgian style), yummy pulled pork (add he sauce, it's just a touch dry) and my boyfriend had a huge hamburger that he liked. The ketchup that was supposed to be special somehow just tasted like the regular stuff (and the one identified as chipotle tasted identical) but I don't really care about that; the food was satisfying and carefully prepared. They have sodas in bottles that are good and sort of obscure (ergo; fun) and cup cakes that looked wonderful, but we were too stuffed to contemplate them.\r \r For some reason on a Saturday evening the parking lot was full of people with vintage cars so there was no place to park, which seems like an odd business decision ~ maybe they all eat a meal while they hang around, but it didn't look like it, more like a lot of people drinking beer in the parking lot. This seemed semi-official since there was one guy with a table set up on the patio selling car-related stuff (again, odd business decision).\r \r I recommend this place. The idea of ""slow fast food,"" while not original, is well executed here and the service is friendly and good. I didn't mind waiting, it's not some drive-through junk but real food.\r \r Best sure to actually print the coupon if you expect to avail yourself of the ""I found you on Citysearch"" $5 discount. In spite of a link that says ""mention"" Citysearch be sure to bring the coupon because mentioning it will get nothing but a blank look. It's worth it.\r \r * Mention Citysearch & Receive $5 Off Your Purchase of $15 Or More\r \r Pros: Food, Service Cons: Parking more

yumm 1/12/2009

cheap!\r \r more

Quality has gone down :( 6/1/2008

It was pretty good in the beg. but the last 2 times I have gone the service was bad and the food (Burger and Pulled pork) was not as tasty as before. The pulled pork barely had any well pulled pork and the burger was bland and over cooked when it should of ben med rare. \r \r Hope the restaurant picks up its act as no one wants to pay their prices if the foods quality is not going to match.\r \r Pros: homemade Cons: falling quality more

not worth the hype 5/17/2008

We've been there 3 times in the past 2 years. The ""kids"" behind the counter could care less. The pastrami, which has a great flavor is very fatty. When you ask if they can trim it, they just say no because it's all been sliced and is in a steam table behind the counter. Most places trim that huge hunk of fat off the brisket before slicing it, but not here. The ketchup containers were almost empty, so my son encountered an air pocket and got covered with ketchup when trying to get some out. The crew behind the counter were too busy talking to notice the ketchup mess, or that the iced tea container was empty. \r \r I read good reviews for the roasted chicken so I figured the chicken salad sandwich would be a good bet, but I was SO wrong. The chicken was tiny cubes and shreds of chicken. My sandwich also had a dime sized small bone, some gristle, and some skin in it. It was served on a dry crumbly roll with a large nest of strong onion, old tomato and mayo. The chicken had no way of staying on the roll since there was nothing holding the chunks together. It didn't help that the chicken tasted like the fridge. 3 of us, $32.00 later and never again. \r \r it's funky, which is fine, but the lack of consistent quality coupled with the attitude of the kids working there takes it over the top. I know somebody tried very hard to do something different here, which it admirable, but they only got 30% of the concept and then gave up. You need to establish the quality, train the cooks and train the counter help. Somebody needs to ask the customers how the experience was. Nobody wants to ask that question of the customers leaving. Sorry. more

you've got to be kidding 5/16/2008

it's not that cheap and the bbq is far below pat and oscars (which i consider pretty bad). did someone pay for this review? there is never a crowd there for a reason...it's just not that good compared to the selection you have all around that area. more
