The Grill at H&H is great! 9/19/2010

The Grill at H&H is a great restaurant for couples for a romantic dinner. With dim lighting and interesting wall art around the restaurant, you will not be disappointed. The bar is good for happy hour and Christine the bartender is excellent. If you consider a concert at the Hollywood bowl, do have dinner at the grill before the concert and walk to the Hollywood Bowl only 3 blocks walking north on Highland Blvd. more

waitress needs help 10/7/2008

The food was less than what you'd expect for the price. The scenery was nice. However, after my sister and I ate lunch about 1PM today, the waitress chased us out complaining that our six dollar tip was not enough for her! I kid you not. She wouldn't let it drop! So bring a hefty tip and expect pretty average service, or you'll be chased out the door. Pros: ambience Cons: service more

Good chicken, service 12/22/2007

I ordered the honey garlic chicken, which tasted great! The mashed potatoes and broccoli that came with it were average though. But their fries were very good. I found the service to be top notch, with patient waiters accommodating our large group, and never once did I have to track someone down to refill my water. It's a bit expensive though, so if I were to go back it'd have to be for a special occasion. Pros: Food, service Cons: parking more

High prices, average food 1/16/2007

We went there for a friends birthday and it was okay...the food was kinda expensive but portions were large..a friend and I were able to share a plate of chicken and garlic mashed potatoes...and still feel stuffed...the apple martinis are delicious, drinks are kinda strong...the dessert was very delish...again, big portion...we were able to pass that slice around the whole table for all 12 people to enjoy!!!! Our waiter was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable with the food and its ingredients...I would definitely go there again but with a little more money this time to enjoy a steak! Pros: kinda expensive, but it is Hollywood Cons: service was a bit slow more

Loved it! 6/10/2006

I don't quite know what the reviews here are talking about! First off, I ordered The Grill via LABite.com and even though it took a while for the food to get here, it was still hot! That said, the mixed green salad was quite large, especially considering it was delivery (usually they give you less when you get take out/delivery). They also included a hunk of great bread with butter on the side; wonderful packaging they did, taking care that everything was packed tightly and neatly. I ordered the angel hair pomodoro which was very good with plenty left over for tomorrow. I also got the Fudge Chocolate cake, not the Double Fudge since its not available on Sundays. It was a huge slice with a small container of cream and some raspberries for decoration; excellent! The total came to about $35...MORE THAN WORTH IT! I'd order or go to The Grill anytime! Pros: Large Portions! Good Food! Worth the money! more

PRICEY-Average Food, Small Portions 6/18/2005

If you want to know how pricey this place is, take a peak at the menu before you go in. The cheapest chicken is $22 and so forth to $30 for fillet mignon. The interior is the classic vision of what a restaurant should be, with wonderful booths and old furniture, done up walls and mirrors. They give you delicious pickled peppers with the bread. Fillet mignon was small topped with fried onions that were not crisp, sides were a la carte. I ordered the lyonaise potatos, big mistake, it's just a small portion of boiled potatos with raw onions not worth $10. OVERPRICED FOR THE SMALL PORTIONS. It was deserted at 7:00pm on a Saturday, with some people at the bar. I thought the staff should have been more attentive since we were in an empty restaurant. The desserts were not interesting enough to try. Check it out once. Pros: excellent decor, good for impressing, unique pickledpeppers Cons: overpriced food, small portions, food is average more

Pretenders 12/27/2004

I personally like this place for drinks and appetizers, but I have had such mixed experiences with the food, that I can't recommend it except to the adventurous. Last visit, I ordered the filet mignon medium rare and it came medium well. Rookie mistake. Atmosphere is nice, but no history. Pros: drinks, atmosphere more

Great Staff Makes Up For Location 1/13/2004

In chintzy LA I've become accustomed to eating expensive food in malls, so there's no shocker there. And considering the location, The Grill can actually be a relatively relaxing, fun place to eat if you live in the neighborhood. Contrary to what others have said, the staff is suprisingly fun, real and unpretentious. In the tradition of the old steakhouses it emulates, the staffers here tend more towards a relaxed professionalism than the regular bevy of starved starlets (like they've tasted the food...) and airheaded actors that seem to staff most of the other restaurants in the region. Pros: Great staff, Not trendy, Good drinks Cons: A little expensive more

a facade of class 3/11/2003

I've gone to this restuarant twice and have walked away each time thinking, ""All that money spent for that?!"" The first visit started as a time-filler to wait out traffic. The bar scene is elegant, the cocktail waitresses are attentive, and the drinks are worth the price. Dinner however is another story. The meals are priced at least ten to fifteen dollars more than they should be and this restuarant does not have any historical ties nor has it seen any events of cultural significance to justify paying so much money for what is otherwise a simple dining experience. Stay for the drinks? - Yes. Stay for dinner? - No. Pros: comforting atmosphere, great drinks Cons: extremely pricey more

Not Worth the Money 6/16/2002

Although I did like some of my experience at The Gill on Hollywood, the food was not nearly worth the money. The crab cake appetizer had too much mayo in it and some small pieces of shell. The spinach salad however was terrific. I had the lamb and although it was tasty, it was way too fatty. And the creamed spinach that came with it was served lukewarm. The ala carte potatoes we ordered we great and be sure not to skip the desert. Vanilla Bean ice cream with hot fudge was the best part of the entire meal. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Some decent food, Great desert Cons: Slower waitstaff, Food temperature vary more
