The vet specialist who saw my pet was fantastic, a pioneer and expert in her field. She was very thorough in answering my questions. However, the hospital administration and customer service leaves much to be desired. Costs are extremely high (ie they round up and you will be charged for a full day of hospitalization even if your pet is there only a couple hours), and they increased my bill after discharging my pet without notifying me. more

Animal Medical Center, Incompetent Surgeons 11/26/2011

i lost my beloved pet because of the botched surgery performed by a surgeon at the animal medical center in new york. i paid about 9 thousand dollars for the treatment and surgery of my little poodle. but the surgeon Avery Bennett did not perform the surgery according to the protocol and failed to remove all the mammary glands in my poodle who was suffering from low grade mammary cancer and biopsy of the masses showed the edges were clean. Which means it was not an aggressive cancer and if properly removed my dog would have survived. initially it was recommended by the oncology department at AMC that all mammary glands were to be removed. due to the size and age of the dog the Oncologist had suggested that surgery be done in 2 stages. one side of the mammary gland chain was to be removed in each stage. but that doctor Avery Bennett said he could do it in one stage. after a lot of debate when everyone agree because he is the chief of surgery there he performed the surgery. he was supposed to remove all the mammary glands in one surgery and also spay the dog at the same time. He did not on purpose or by negligence remove all mammary glands and a new tumor developed in that one mammary gland that he had left unremoved. i was never told this until the tumor recurred at the site of the incision and i took my dog to the oncology for a check up. The skin was stiched in my dog's groin so tight that she was unable to walk after the surgery. more over, my dog, a female, was also exhibiting signs of being on ""heat"" which was impossible if she was properly spayed and her uterus was removed. No one there could explain why a spayed female dog was on heat. In my opinion Dr. Avery Bennett totally BOTCHED the surgery by failing to follow the protocol suggested by the oncology to stage the surgery, failing to remove ALL of the mammary glands and failing to properly spay the dog to stop production of estrogen. After the tumor recurred they suggested another surgey but before i could make the decision my poor dog lost all sensation and mobility in her hind legs and groin and began crying with pain between her legs at the site of the big incision where skin was stiched by Dr. Bennett very very tight. When the dog could not walk or get up any more she was sent by a local vet. to go and play in the rain bow. I would never recommend this particular surgeon Avery Bennett for any soft tissue surgery on any pet. He has no idea what pet owners go through. He is so full of himself and just to add another feather to his hat that he could perform such a big and so complicated surgery on such a small dog, there was not enough skin left to stitch the abdomen of the dog back together. He stitched it so tight that the dog developed post surgical complication and also because he did not remove all the mammary glands the dog developed another tumor in the mammary gland that was left and she was intact and not spayed as told. I did not expect such BOTCHED SURGERY from AMC hospital staff because they charge so much money and AMC is supposed to be one of the best in the united states. My poor dog was just a specimen for them to experiment and research. i will never forget this trauma of losing my beloved sweet pet. Please do not fall for their sweet talk they are all about making money and manipulate desperate pet owners who love their pet and would do whatever they can to save their pet. Its ok they can charge money but at least they should do a good job and not a botched surgery for thousands of dollars. This place is a rip off. It would be hard for me trust them again. more

I'm grateful for the medical services my pet received 8/14/2011

It was just a couple of weeks ago that I was obsessing as to whether or not to let my beautiful, lovable, and most treasured 13 1/2 year-old shih tzu undergo liver surgery to biopsy and remove a mass that had been found on her liver by her regular vet. And it was just a couple of weeks ago that I was combing through the reviews of the AMC to determine if this was a safe place to bring her if I did decide on the surgery. Well, today, I am the thrilled and grateful mom to a doggie who emerged from surgery at the AMC with a clean bill of health and a smoothly going recovery period. When I brought her in for consultation, she was examined by Dr. White and her intern Dr. Gest. They were both professional, supportive and basically great. Two days later she was seen by Dr. Kovak, the surgeon, and her resident, Dr. Pavia, and intern, Dr. Gorman. All were knowledgeable, supportive and, again, great. After I scheduled the surgery, both Dr. White and Dr. Kovak responded to my lengthy worry-filled emails with useful information and encouragement, and Dr. Pavia spent time with me on the phone. During my pet's 2-day stay in the hospital, a team member called me twice a day to update me on her progress. Even the administrative staff has been lovely. I am grateful for the medical services my beloved doggie received and the support and comfort that I was given. Thank you to all! more

Her effort was impressive. 6/10/2011

When my cat was ill, I was astounded with the continuing attention of Dr. Kimberly Alexander. After examining the cat at AMC, she told me to keep her informed. We began e-mailing back and forth, often three times a day. She asked about the cat's behavior, modified his medicine and more for days until the cat was well. Her effort was impressive. more

Very good experience. 4/4/2011

I had a very good experience. The services and establishment were both very professional. A bit on the pricey side, but I guess you get what you pay for. I even got a postcard that alert me for a necessary follow up appointment. Good overall experience! Thank you! :) more

Far exceeded our expectations! 3/31/2011

Amazing--far exceeded our expectations! We are thrilled and surprised by the service at every level. It is wonderful and reassuring to witness everyone enjoying their jobs so much. We are absolutely floored by the incredible care given to our dog, Eddie MacLean, by Dr. Bronwyn Riggs and Dr. Megan Brace!! We cannot say enough about how fantastic they have been. They have kept us incredibly informed, with regular updates via email and video, while Eddie was in the hospital. And they are always there to answer questions we have had along the way. Both Drs. have regularly called us just to see how Eddie is doing. They are truly passionate about their jobs, and it gives such a sense of comfort and trust to the pet owners. Dr Riggs and Dr. Brace are such excellent representatives of AMC and really have done the hospital proud. Their ears must be burning from all of the praises we have sung about them to our family and friends!!! more

Very organized 3/30/2011

Very organized, great team work. I received succinct, but complete information about plan of care. Dr. Macina and his team have a great ""bedside manner"". A diagnosis was made that other vets (not from AMC) had overlooked. more
