Review content:
i lost my beloved pet because of the botched surgery performed by a surgeon at the animal medical center in new york. i paid about 9 thousand dollars for the treatment and surgery of my little poodle. but the surgeon Avery Bennett did not perform the surgery according to the protocol and failed to remove all the mammary glands in my poodle who was suffering from low grade mammary cancer and biopsy of the masses showed the edges were clean. Which means it was not an aggressive cancer and if properly removed my dog would have survived. initially it was recommended by the oncology department at AMC that all mammary glands were to be removed. due to the size and age of the dog the Oncologist had suggested that surgery be done in 2 stages. one side of the mammary gland chain was to be removed in each stage. but that doctor Avery Bennett said he could do it in one stage. after a lot of debate when everyone agree because he is the chief of surgery there he performed the surgery. he was supposed to remove all the mammary glands in one surgery and also spay the dog at the same time. He did not on purpose or by negligence remove all mammary glands and a new tumor developed in that one mammary gland that he had left unremoved. i was never told this until the tumor recurred at the site of the incision and i took my dog to the oncology for a check up. The skin was stiched in my dog's groin so tight that she was unable to walk after the surgery. more over, my dog, a female, was also exhibiting signs of being on ""heat"" which was impossible if she was properly spayed and her uterus was removed. No one there could explain why a spayed female dog was on heat. In my opinion Dr. Avery Bennett totally BOTCHED the surgery by failing to follow the protocol suggested by the oncology to stage the surgery, failing to remove ALL of the mammary glands and failing to properly spay the dog to stop production of estrogen. After the tumor recurred they suggested another surgey but before i could make the decision my poor dog lost all sensation and mobility in her hind legs and groin and began crying with pain between her legs at the site of the big incision where skin was stiched by Dr. Bennett very very tight. When the dog could not walk or get up any more she was sent by a local vet. to go and play in the rain bow. I would never recommend this particular surgeon Avery Bennett for any soft tissue surgery on any pet. He has no idea what pet owners go through. He is so full of himself and just to add another feather to his hat that he could perform such a big and so complicated surgery on such a small dog, there was not enough skin left to stitch the abdomen of the dog back together. He stitched it so tight that the dog developed post surgical complication and also because he did not remove all the mammary glands the dog developed another tumor in the mammary gland that was left and she was intact and not spayed as told. I did not expect such BOTCHED SURGERY from AMC hospital staff because they charge so much money and AMC is supposed to be one of the best in the united states. My poor dog was just a specimen for them to experiment and research. i will never forget this trauma of losing my beloved sweet pet. Please do not fall for their sweet talk they are all about making money and manipulate desperate pet owners who love their pet and would do whatever they can to save their pet. Its ok they can charge money but at least they should do a good job and not a botched surgery for thousands of dollars. This place is a rip off. It would be hard for me trust them again.
