Best

Tucked away on Newbury Street, Thai Basil is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Boston and they never disappoint! Their crispy pad thai is one of the best around and their tr...

It seems as though the cleaning part of the business is very last on the priority list -- I just hope that isn't the case in the kitchen. They reuse their place mats over and ove...

fast service- because they are rushing you out 7/23/2007

This place has an awesome location, great to stop on newbury st. The food was pretty decent thai, nothing spectacular. Ambience- nothing special. The main plus is that it was very cheap ( at least for lunch) and portions are good. But, they wanted to take our order the second we sat down, really annoying because the restaurant was not even close to full yet. Pros: good food, price Cons: little ambience, staff a little pushy more

Solid Thai takeout 2/1/2007

Having worked in the building above Thai Basil for 5 years, it has become my go-to meal. It's not creative or innovative. It's not fine dining or elegant or atmospheric. But it is consistently good American-Thai food. I have never eaten in the restaurant, but the staff with whom I order & pick up from are always polite and VERY fast. I don't usually wait more than 10 minutes from calling an order in to pick it up. \r The dishes I've enjoyed most are: Spring Rolls; Fresh Basil Rolls; Chicken Satay; any of the soups or salads; Pad Thai; Yellow, Red or Green Curry. It's fairly inexpensive for this street and filling. They have excellent (& cheap) lunch specials for those who work in the area. I recommend it for those looking for a tasty & casual meal. In fact, I think I'll bring home some tonight for dinner! more

Terrible Service 1/2/2007

The food was okay while the service was terrible. Some of the servers had attitude. Not only they didn't greet their customers, they didn't even put a smile on their face. One waitress was yelling at me, ""do you want anything else?"" while I was in a conversation with my friends. How rude! Honestly, I didn't expect ""great"" service from them when I decided to dine there. But I didn't think it would be this bad. Cons: SERVICE more

What I Miss Most 5/18/2005

When I lived in Boston, I used to go to Thai Basil once a week. Either eat in or take out. The staff is wonderful (Nit is so sweet), they remember me even thought I have moved away and only go when I am in town (it is the only place I HAVE to go to when I return to Boston. The Tom Yum Chicken Soup is to die for; I haven't found any better in my new home of Chicago and beleive me I have tried. For me it is the one I measure all other Thai restaurants against. Pros: amazing food, staff, location Cons: little loud more

Good food, good service 8/16/2003

We stopped by this pleasant Thai restaurant on Newbury Street for a quick meal a few days ago. We found the staff to be friendly and the service to be timely and accurate. The fresh spring rolls were good, followed by an above average pad thai and red curry. There's nothing amazing about this restaurant, but if you're looking for good food and good service, this definitely fits the bill! more

Great take out 2/10/2003

This restaurant may not be fashionable or even very welcoming, but it offers great tasting thai food for a very affordable price. The spicy tofu is simply amazing. The chicken coconut soup offers a mix of sweet and spicy flavors. The curries are very good as well. Service is not always great, so I would recommend ordering by phone and enjoying these tasty dishes in the comfort of your home. Pros: tasty dishes, inexpensive Cons: service, decor more

Excellent Value! 9/3/2002
