The team at this store definitely know Apple products inside and out. I went in because I needed some advice on how to hook up some audio video equipment from my laptop to my HDT...

Bad service 1/1/2007

I must confess my extreme disappointment with Tekserve. I've been there in the past to buy products and once for minor service to my laptop. The service was alright. However, this recent experience has completely altered my impression of the place.\r \r I brought in my laptop because it was making strange noises. After examining I was told something with was wrong with the fan inside and it should be replaced. I was told it would take about 4 business days. Fine. I paid $60 dollars for the fan and $100 for service and was told that when my computer was ready they would give me a call. A week goes by. I get a phone call, but instead of telling me that it's fixed, they say they need my password because they are confused about what's wrong with it. After giving them my password several more days go by. I finally call the tech (he had had to leave his extension on my machine) Yes it turns out two fans are broken and they don't have one in stock so they are waiting for apple to ship it to them. And I have to pay another $40 dollars for the other fan. Joy. I call a week later, no apple hasn't even shipped the item. Two weeks go by, no word. Finally I stop by the shop in person. I tell them it's been ONE MONTH since I dropped off my computer. They check with apple for the part. It turns out apple somehow thought they shipped it but they didn't. So no, my computer is still not ready.\r \r What angers me is that if I hadn't come in person, no one would have checked to see if the part was on its way. My computer would just be lost among the many repair orders. It has been more than a month and I still haven't gotten my computer back. Trying to get someone on the phone there is impossible, you have to leave a message and they do not call you back.\r This used to be a really good place. I don't know what's happened. It has a really slick exterior but it is just superficial. Go to an Apple Store or Digital Society instead Pros: Fun looking shop to buy from Cons: Horrible repair service, Ambience to customer's needs more

I hate this place 10/6/2006

I've attempted to do Ipod related errands about three different times in this place and always run out sreaming like a lunatic. I hate this place. From the arrogant "ticket" giver at the door to waiting five hundred years just to purchase something simple like a cover or headphones. It's unbearable and I will never ever go in there again. This place is annoying. Pros: Appears they have a lot of stuff in that store Cons: lame service, people, attitude and vibe..go elsewhere more

You name it, it's terrible 2 8/15/2006

Am posting this June 17, 2008. Tekserve sales & repair is just plain greedy and trains their staff to confuse, deceive and extort people. I still can't believe they wanted to charge me $200 to run Disk Warrior on my Mac! You can and will do better anywhere else reputable. Don't fall for the rubbish reviews here--just about every time there is a 1-star, one of their employees puts in a glowing 5-star. As far as the Apple Genius bar goes, it's NOT the place to take something for out-of-warranty repair. But Tekserve is not either. And I have NEVER HAD TO WAIT MORE THAN 15 minutes TO SEE SOMEONE at the Genius bar! J&R is still the best place in the City to got for Mac repair. The only good thing about this place is the convenient public transportation and the occasional parties they have. The seminars aren't bad, but I don't go here anymore. Apple store and other places instead Pros: Convenient to public transportation Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Rude! 12/28/2005

Although I would rather not deal with the crowds at the Apple store, it may be a much better option than dealing with the rude staff here. I simply called to find out how to go about adding memory to my computer, and I was treated as if I might possibly be the dumbest person alive. There is no need to patronize customers like the way I was. Pros: none Cons: rude more

Zoomy 4/11/2005

Hi, Just had to rush a purchase of a Powerbook, Glyph drive, and various accessories before catching a flight, and the sales guy zoomed! Got everything I needed in double-quick time. Waited only five minutes for service. Place is full of character rather than attitude in my, admittedly short, experience. Impressed. Pros: Speedy more

The not-so-friendly computer co. 1/19/2005

Unlike the computers they service, this place is poorly designed-- people milling everywhere, huge lines, etc. The customer service also leaves much to be desired--as one of NY's Mac "big-boys" they apparently don't feel the need to compete. I went there for a RAM chip which they wanted to sell me for more than double the MSRP, and triple the price that BestBuy sold it for. I asked and the salesperson said "We're a bit more expensive." That was it. The techs are good, but service is WAY over-priced. You're much better calling a small consultant who is Apple Certified. Pros: Good tech work, They'll fix anything Cons: , Sales team is useless, You'll pay dearly more

Would you like attitude with that? 7/20/2004

I go to Tekserve fairly often as I've had a ton of trouble with my iBook. I will admit that while they do have a quick turn-around, the staff's attitude is a huge turn-off. If they focused more on service than being hipper than thou, Tekserve would be a fine place. Unfortunately, I don't have enough space to cite many examples , but one service rep actually told me that I was lying when I told him that Apple said they'd replace my computer if it was still broken. Clearly, they did, and clearly, he was jerk. I cringe even when I have to buy things there, because even the people who work at the sales counter pull attitude. Go somewhere else. Pros: Fast Cons: , Often crowded more

this is where i go 2/5/2003

i do tech support for a living and when i have a severe mac problem...dead hard drive, bad power supply, fried motherboard this is where i go. i have to say that you should go first thing in the morning as the wait gets longer and longer in the afternoon. usually for hardware service takes a couple of days. data recovery takes a week. staff is helpful and seem to know everything about macs. but definitely go early in the morning. walking in at 5 o'clock will guarantee frustration. more

I don't know of a better place to take your ailing Mac. I've found the technicians trustworthy, competent and helpful with advice. The free Cokes and underground comix in the waiting room help take the edge off. more
